ESTES, Karen
It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye to our beautiful and loving daughter and sister, Karen Anne Estes, 41. She has gone to heaven after many years of battling an illness she could not control. We will all miss her very much, and she will remain in our hearts and minds forever.

DEWITT, SR., John
FREEPORT, FLA. - John W. "Johnnie" DeWitt, Sr., 79, died Saturday, February 9, 2002 in Twin City's Hospital in Niceville, Florida after an illness.
Mr. DeWitt was born in Pamplico, S.C.; a son of the late Cordie W. and Zelma Farley Haines DeWitt. He was retired from the US Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer. Mr. DeWitt served on the USS Tennessee, one week prior to Pearl Harbor and then was on the Marblehead. During WWII, he served in the Pacific, North Atlantic, Mediterranean and also the Normandy Invasion. He served in Korea, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis and in the Gulf of Tonkin during Vietnam. Prior to retirement, he was Chief Master of Arms of the Anti Submarine Warfare Base in San Diego, Calif.
Surviving are one daughter, Dawn Celeste Bellanca of Arcadia, Calif.; one son, John W. "Jack" DeWitt, Jr. of Florence, S.C.; one grandson, Martin Connaly of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Willys James "Jimmy" DeWitt of Lake City, S.C.; three half-sisters, Marilyn D. (Lenair) Altman and Sybil D. (Jimmy) Bennett both of Georgetown, S.C. and Nora D. (Johnny) Cates of Dallas, Texas; a companion, Barbara Still of Freeport, Fla.
Mr. DeWitt was predeceased by his first wife Carolyn Foster DeWitt; his second wife, Carey P. DeWitt; three sisters, Dorothy Daniels, Mollie Brown and Kitty Hyman; one brother, Charles Beale "CB" DeWitt; step-mother, Lenora DeWitt Honors.
Graveside service will be at 12 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2002, in the Mt. Elim Free Will Baptist Church cemetery, Pamlico, S.C., with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

EICHHORN, Kathleen
Kathleen Prescott Eichhorn entered into eternal sleep on February 10, 2002, resulting from a ten year battle with breast cancer. She was a partner in Charleston Business Associates with her husband Richard S. Eichhorn who survives her. She entered into business with her husband after retiring from a 25 year career as a second grade teacher at Wilson Hill Elementary School in Worthington, Ohio. She resided at 816 Harbor Place Drive in Charleston, S.C. 29412 with her husband Richard S. Eichhorn. In addition, her daughters, Elizabeth Arndt of Durham, N.C. with grandchildren, Jeffrey and Madeline and Addie Bourne of Lovettsville, Va. with grandchildren Kathleen and Michael and her sister Elizabeth List of Columbus, Ohio, also survive her. Other survivors include stepchildren, David C. Eichhorn of Woodland Hills, Calif., Richard A. Eichhorn of Littleton, Colo. and Susan L. Eichhorn of Medina, Ohio.
A Memorial Service was held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church at Meeting and Broad Street in downtown Charleston on Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by a burial of her ashes in the churchyard columbarium. She is survived by one daughter: Margaret Langston of Houston, Texas; one sister: Hazel Reed of Deland, Florida and one granddaughter, Laura Oochl of Houston, Texas.

MICK, Kenneth
Kenneth R. Mick, "KR", of Goose Creek, died suddenly on February 7, 2002. He was born November 14, 1942 in Plattsburg, Missouri. He was 59 years old. He is survived by his 3 brothers and 5 sisters; Marion, Denny, Robert, Helen, Deloris, Carolyn, Elizabeth, and Sharon. He is also survived by Wanda J. Mick, his former wife of 30 years, nephew/son, James E. Reel, seven step-children, and his grandchildren, Kristina, Andy, Ashley, Brittany, Dalton, and Timothy.
KR was in the minesweeping division in the U.S. Navy. During his time in the Navy, he received many awards, etc. He had been presented the Meritorious Unit Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy. He retired as a Master Chief Boatswains Mate. During his life, he served as Game Warden, an avid deer hunter, and had won many tournaments in bass fishing. He will be sadly missed by his family.
Friends may call this evening (Tuesday) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service, with full military honors, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. Burial will be at Beaufort National cemetery.
PFLUGER, Robert
Entered into eternal rest the morning of February 9, 2002, Robert A. Pfluger, husband of Elizabeth Precht Pfluger. Residence, Johns Island, S.C. Mr. Pfluger was born in Plainfield, N.J. the son of Frederick Pfluger and Helen Van Denberg Applegate. He was retired from Richardson Vick/Proctor and Gamble where he was a systems analyst. He was a Captain in the US Army Air Corp. and served in W.W. II. He was a graduate of Rutgers University in N.J. He was a watercolor artist and President of the Charleston Artist Guild for two years. He was an avid fisherman and tennis player at Seabrook Island.
Surviving are his wife of Johns Island, S.C.; 2 daughters: Gale E. Soltish of Johns Island, S.C. and Jan McLaren of Oakhurst, N.J.; 4 granddaughters: Tracy Soltish, Katie McLaren, Allison McLaren and Kackie McLaren.

FREEMAN, Muriel
Muriel Lewis "BeBe" Freeman, 79, of Moore St., Hanahan, S.C., died Sunday in a Summerville hospital.
The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Feb. 14, 2002, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday.
Mrs. Freeman was born Nov. 6, 1922, in Mullins, S.C., a daughter of Solan B. Lewis, Sr., and Ethel Rogers Lewis. She is the widow of William C. Freeman, Sr. She is a member of the Salvation Army Church. She was a member of Chapter 250 OES.
Surviving are, Joette Rullman of Ladson; three sons, William C. "Billy" Freeman of Andrews, Johnson B. Freeman of Summerville, and Chris Freeman of Arkansas; three sisters, Ethel "Kink" Rogers and Doris "Corky" Summerford both of Hanahan, and Jacquelyn "Jack" Gaddy of Nichols; three brothers. Solan "Sonny" Lewis and Gene "Bunky" Lewis both of Bonneau, and Sherrill "Judy" Lewis of Florence; and ten grandchildren.
KOZMA, Frank
Frank Kozma, 90, of Charleston, died Saturday, February 9, 2002 at a local hospital. He was born in Rome, N.Y. to Leon and Victoria Gorskowski Kozma. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Poly-Tech Institute and a retired chemical engineer with Westvaco after 42 years. Frank was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, a past member of the German Friendly Society, a life member of the American Chemical Society and a longtime patron of the Footlight Players. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Powers Kozma, three sons, Frank Kozma, Jr. of Arlington, Tex., John P. Kozma of Charleston, James L. Kozma of Baltimore, Md., and a grandson, Blake Celestian. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Celestian last year. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St., with a Vigil Service beginning at 8:00 p.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with interment in Holy Cross cemetery. AVINGER, Blanche
MILLEN - Mrs. Blanche Wallace Avinger, 93, of Millen, died Saturday, February 9, 2002. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill cemetery.
She was born in Jenkins County, a retired supervisor for the cafeteria of the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston and member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Matt Wallace, Marion Jenkins, Muriel Williams, Arthur Wallace, Betty Jones, Winnefred Mosely, and Evelyn Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Avinger.
