PITT, Edward
ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Mr. Edward L. Pitt died February 5, 2002, in a regional hospital. Graveside services will be at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Friday, February 8, 2002, 11 a.m. Burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Isaiah D. Phinisee will officiate.
Mr. Pitt was born in Charleston, the son of the late George W. and Ernestine Boone Pitt.
Survivors include, wife, Oscarola M. Pitt, Orangeburg; two sisters, Bernice Pitt Tharpe, Kingstree, S.C.; and Ruby Pitt Wilson, Orangeburg; grandchildren, Marques Pitt, Etoria Smith; nieces, nephews and cousins.

YOUNG, JR., Thomas
Thomas Rudolph Young, Jr., 79, of 1200 Partridge Road, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Rudolph and Josephine Wood Young and the husband of Susan Hinman Chapman Young. He was first married
to the late Mary Jane Edwards Young.
Mr. Young graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1939 and attended Duke University and Purdue University. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Young was Chairman of the Board of Young Office Supply Company which he started with his father in 1953. He was a founding member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church which he served faithfully in many capacities. He was a lifetime member of the Spartanburg Day School Board of Trustees and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Young was a former member of the Board of Directors of the First Citizens Bank, the Salvation Army, and the United Way. He was a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, and an active Board member of Mobile Meals. He was the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year in 1988 and a runner-up to the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year in 1989.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his Aunt Emmala Louise Young; his five children, Thomas Rudolph Young, III and his wife Elizabeth Chapman Young of Spartanburg, Kenneth Edwards Young and his wife Cynthia Higgins Young of Greenville, SC, Edward Hotchkiss Young, M.D. and his wife Clark Newton Young of Macon, GA, Mary Jane Young McWilliams and her husband William Locke McWilliams of Louisville, KY, and Berkeley Wilson Young of Lake Lure, NC; two step-sons, Joseph Wallace Chapman, Jr. and his wife Ashley Bryant Chapman of Atlanta, GA, and Norman Hinman Chapman and his wife Martha Wright Chapman of Spartanburg; and twelve grandchildren, Thomas Rudolph Young IV, Bryan Chapman Young, and Elizabeth Ann Young of Spartanburg, Mary Edwards Young and Anne Higgins Young of Greenville, SC, Edward Hotchkiss Young, Jr. and Anna Blanche Young of Macon, GA, Mary Jane Young McWilliams of Louisville, KY, Joseph Wallace Chapman III and Hugh Bryant Chapman of Atlanta, GA, Martha Mears Chapman and Catherine Hinman Chapman of Spartanburg, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002, at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church conducted by the Rev. Terry Martin and the Rev. Dr. Todd B. Jones. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Born August 25, 1941, in Holly Hill, S.C., Mr. Cooler was the son of the late Jesse E. and Mary L. Cooler. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was a member of Dorchester Waylyn Baptist Church.
Mr. Cooler is survived by his wife, Lillie J. Cattles Cooler of N. Charleston, three daughters, Debra Denise Cooler of N. Charleston, and Cindy Molina of Washington (state) Tiffany Cooler of N. Charleston; a son Richard Jason Cooler of N. Charleston; two sisters, Elaine Duncan and Crystal Cooler Parker both of N. Charleston; three grandchildren, Jennifer Molina and Billy Molina of Washington (state) and Ariana Hickson of Mt. Pleasant and two great-grandchildren.

Don Murray Judy, 51, of Hanahan, died unexpectedly on the morning of Wednesday, February 6, 2002. His funeral service will conducted at 3 o'clock, Saturday, February 9, 2002, in the J. Mr. Judy was born in Charleston, S.C., on November 3, 1950, son of the late Don Murray Judy, Sr., and Bana Fisk Judy. He was a truck driver for Owens Transportation and was a member of North Charleston Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Durr Judy, his daughter, Amy Veronee of Ravenel, his step-daughter, Kay Owens of Ladson, five step-sons, Bruce Owens of Summerville, Randy Owens of Columbia, Terry Durr, Billy Owens, and Michael Owens, all of Summerville. His sisters, Norris Clubb of Goose Creek and Ida Mae Council of Ladson as well as 14 grandchildren also survive.
LYONS, Lenora
NEW YORK CITY - Lenora Smalls Lyons, 61, died February 2, 2002, in New York City. Funeral services will be held February 9, 1 p.m., at Immanuel R.E. Church, Cross, S.C. Rev. Bruce D. Doyle will officiate. Burial in church cemetery. EUTAWVILLE COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lenora S. Lyons was born in New York City, October 17, 1940, to Sarah Smalls.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Sarah Smalls, two daughters, Debra Smalls and Terre Lyons, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
GILLEN, William
William R. Gillen died on January 30, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nev. He moved from New York to London in 1959, to open the office for BBDO (advertising) and to Paris in 1964 to develop their business. Later he became the CEO of Chesbrough Ponds for Europe and the Middle East, based in Geneva, Switzerland.
He retired in Provence, France, in 1972, where he and his wife had restored a beautiful 17th century house. They returned to the United States in 1980. They chose Vermont, but then relocated to Charleston, S.C., and one year before Hugo. They spent many happy years and made many friends in Charleston. Mr. Gillen served on the Roper Hospital Foundation Board and MUSC Boards.
In 1999 he and his wife moved to Las Vegas to be near one of their daughters.
Pat, his wife of 62 years, two daughters, Suzy Faraut, and Leslie Erbland, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren survive Mr. Gillen.
