Mr. Bennett was born in Fort Benning, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army as an Artillery Officer of the one hundred first division. He graduated from North Georgia Military College. He also served in the National Guard prior and after his service with the Army. Mr. Bennett was employed as a jeweler.
Surviving are his parents; one sister, Marian Cummings and husband Steve of Dahlonega, Ga.; one niece, Amanda Cummings; one brother, Casey H. Bennett and wife Claire of Beaufort, S.C.

BARNES, Lilly
Lilly Baker Barnes died on the morning of Saturday, May 4, 2002 in a Charleston hospital. Her funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in Sullivan's Island Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call this evening (Monday) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Lilly was born in Mt. Pleasant on February 9, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Anna Mollycheck Baker. She was a retired secretary to the president of Charleston Office Supply. A former organist and church secretary at First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, a former member of Wando Baptist Church, Lilly was currently a member of the Sullivan's Island Baptist Church. She was active with the Hand Bell Music Ministry. Lilly was the widow of William A. Barnes who preceded her in death on April 14, 1996.
She is survived by three daughters, Debby Wolter of Mt. Pleasant, Dale (Haskell) Robinson of Savannah, Ga., and Donna (Jim) Rushin of Summerville, S.C.; her four sisters, Adelaide Boyd of Richmond, Va., Audrey Baker of Mt. Pleasant, Evie Atwell of Columbia, S.C. and Dot Brandon of Honea Path, S.C. In addition, six grandchildren, Jonathan and Jarrod Wolter, Amanda and Rebecca Robinson, Kelsey and Joel Durden, a step-grandson, Daniel Rushin, several nieces and nephews also survive.

RIDGELL, Lucille
Lucille G. Ridgell, 81, of The Elms Plantation in North Charleston, died on the afternoon of Saturday, May 4, 2002 in a local hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o'clock a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. James Blvd., Goose Creek. Arrangements were made by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL.
Mrs. Ridgell was born in the City of New York on February 23, 1921 a daughter of the late Dr. F. Walter Gravelle and Lillie C. Smith Gravelle. She was graduated from St. Lawrence Academy and attended the College of New Rochelle in New York.
At age 13, Lucille discovered that her father's library contained numerous books regarding English and Russian literature. She then educated herself to gain an incredible knowledge of those nineteenth century authors. She also traveled extensively throughout the western world with her husband and assisted him in the production of many motion pictures. More recently, she developed a keen interest in Egyptology to add to her vast knowledge of the world.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Pinckney Ridgell, and her sister, Marian Gravelle of North Charleston, S.C.

MURPHY, Alice
FURMAN - Mrs. Alice Camille Causey Murphy, 81, of Furman died Sunday evening in the St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah.
Born October 5, 1920 in Hampton County, S.C. she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Lander Causey and Ann Jenkins Causey. Mrs. Murphy graduated from Furman High School in 1937, earned her B.S. Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Winthrop College in 1941 and then graduated from The Medical College of South Carolina in 1943 with a degree in Medical Technology. She was a member of Alpha Chi and Delta Kappa Gamma Sororities. She taught in public and private schools in Hampton and Jasper Counties and in Savannah for 35 years. Her great joy was in teaching and seeing her students succeed. In retirement she tutored many young students for over 20 years and also enjoyed teaching piano lessons.
She was a member of Furman Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, and she had recently taught Sunday School and was pianist at St. John's Methodist Church in Garnett.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Lee Murphy, whom she married
on July 4, 1943; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Lee Murphy, Jr. and wife Sharon of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Malcolm McLeod Murphy and wife Anna of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Camille Murphy Jones and her husband Kim of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two granddaughters, Caroline Camille and Kacy Lee Murphy, both of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Beth Gren Causey of Mt. Pleasant and Julia Peeples Causey of Walterboro, S.C. There are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Malcolm Lander Causey, Jr. and Dr. James Benjamin Causey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Furman Methodist Church, directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME of Hampton. Burial will follow in the Lawtonville cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the chapel in Hampton.

Mrs. Mitchum was born September 29, 1927, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of Joseph and Leila Myers Cusack. She retired as an Intelligence Clerk from the Charleston Naval Ship Yard, Naval Investigative Service. Upon retirement, she was awarded The Navy Distinguished Civil Service Award. After retirement, Mrs. Mitchum was employed by The Charleston Baptist Association WMU and served on The Executive State Board of The South Carolina Women's Missionary Union. She made two missionary trips to Singapore and Kenya. She was also a founding member of Harbor Lake Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of North Charleston, S.C.; two daughters: Mary Susan Brutsch of Dallas, Tex. and Victoria Ann Spayde of Suffolk, Va.; one son, Thomas O. Mitchum of North Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Harry Cusack of North Charleston, S.C.; nine grand-children; and seven great-grandchildren.

BURBANK, CALIF. - P. Scottye Hedstrom died on Friday, July 19, 2002, at her home in Burbank, Calif.
She was born in Newport News, Va., the daughter of Robert and Peggy Hedstrom of Sumter, S.C. She attended Wagner High School at Clark Airforce Base in the Philippines before graduating from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Ala. Scottye went on to graduate from the College of William and Mary in 1974, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Upon receiving a Master's Degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri, she moved to South Carolina to work as a newscaster for WSCQ in Cayce. In 1979, Scottye received a law degree from the University of Virginia, where she was editor of the Law Review. Later that year she moved to Los Angeles, California, and began working in entertainment law. During her time there Scottye worked for New World Television on the soap opera "Santa Barbara, " the USA Network, and Walt Disney Television. While with Disney, she served as the vice-president for network business affairs working on the popular sitcoms "Ellen" and "Home Improvement." Recently, she acted as a consultant for the studio production firm of Stasson & Associates, LLC. Stephanie Beemon of Stasson and Associates had words of praise, "Scottye was an attorney's attorney, other attorney's looked to her for the final word in our business." Scottye was an avid reader, traveler, and enjoyed SCUBA diving, which had taken her all over the world to such places as Micronesia, Australia and South America. She was also was interested in soap opera writing and liked to attend Broadway Theater in New York.
Survivors in addition to her parents are: one sister, Penny McIntyre and one brother, Robbe Hedstrom.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the Church of the Holy Comforter.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and in the days following at their home.

Rogers V. Cannon, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., husband of Nina A. Cannon, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at his residence. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, Md., at 11 o'clock. Mr. Cannon was born in Washington, D.C., a son of Stephen Frank Cannon and Lillian M. Rollins Cannon. He retired after 13 years service as a Fireman in Washington, D.C. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Member of the VFW Post 10624 of Mount Pleasant, American Legion Post 136, member of the M.O.C, and Elks in Alabama. He also belonged to the Retired Fireman's Association. Mr. Cannon was married
to Nina A. Cannon for 66 years.
Surviving are his wife of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., three sons, Stephen D. Cannon of Rocky Mount, MO, Barton E. Cannon of Edgewater, MD, Rogers V. Cannon, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one daughter, Lillian A. Turner of Huger, S.C.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
