REICHE, Margaret
Margaret Mershon Reiche, 81, died July 22, 2002 in a local hospital. Born February 22, 1921 in Evanston, Illinois, she was the daughter of Herbert and Mildred Mershon (nee Brady). Mrs. Reiche attended New Trier High School, Winnetka, IL and National Teachers College in IL. She was a graduate of Colorado State University. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of P.E.O. Her husband, Frederick O. Reiche preceded her in death. Surviving Mrs. Reiche is her son, Terry Reiche, Isle of Palms, S.C. and daughter Sharon M. Greene, Mount Pleasant, S.C. A private memorial service for the family only will be held at a later date. GOURDINE, George
George Gourdine, the third child of the late Rev. James E. Gourdine and the late Henrietta Bryant Gourdine, passed away on July 20, 2002. He was born at the family home in Cordesville, S.C., on November 7, 1923. He attended Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Fla., and later moved to New York where he was employed by the postal service. Upon retirement, he returned to Charleston, S.C.
He is survived by his brothers, Edward Gourdine, Nathaniel (Marie) Gourdine, Richard (Barbara) Gourdine; his sisters, Rosa Lee (James) Franklin, Millie (Butler) Martin, Mattie Robinson, Bertha Lee G. Bostic, Miriam Gourdine, and Louise Gourdine; his play sister, Althea Lennen, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends. James Gourdine, Jr., the second oldest brother, predeceased him.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Harleston-Boags Funeral Home, located at 121 Calhoun Street, Charleston, S.C.

Mrs. Fernald, wife of the late Richard Thomas Fernald, died Friday, October 11, 2002. Born in Miami, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Preston and Ola Wheeler Edwards. She was a court reporter with the state judicial system.
Surviving are sons, James Gary Preston Christmas of Charleston and Charlie Ronald Christmas, Jr., of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Kendra Christmas-Hahm of Louisville, Ky.; brother, Ronnie Edwards of Sumter; sisters, Rita Way of Sumter, and Kendra Atkinson of Puerto Rico; grandchildren, Amber Christmas, Brittney Christmas and Chelsea Christmas; and two granddogs, Mookie and Griffin.

Mrs. Louise Simmons Washington of Parker's Ferry, S.C., expired on Monday evening, October 7, 2002, at 8:40 p.m., at her daughter's residence in Hanahan, S.C., after a long period of infirmity.
Surviving, her loving and devoted husband of 36 years, Mr. Herman Washington, Sr., of Parker's Ferry, S.C., their children, Ms. Laverne Washington Simmons of Hollywood, S.C., Mrs. Vickie Marie Washington Horlback (Christopher) of Hanahan, S.C., Mr. Herman Washington, Jr., of North Charleston, S.C., her siblings, Ms. Thomasina Holmes of Hollywood, S.C., Mr. Sam Luden Simmons (Helen), Mrs. Renona Butler (James), Mrs. Elnora Washington (David Lee) all of Parker's Ferry, S.C., two brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

KOGER, SR., Herbert
Herbert Koger, Sr., beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Thursday afternoon the 10th of October, 2002. He died of pneumonia after a brief illness with lung cancer.
Mr. Koger was born in Walterboro, S.C., on June 2, 1915, and was the son of the late Huggins Koger and Annie Lee Smith Koger. Mr. Koger was a retired Wholesale Produce Broker and operated his business, located at the corner of State and Market Streets in Charleston, for over 33 years. He was well loved and respected by all of the local vendors during those special days at the City Market of Charleston.
Mr. Koger was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston for over 60 years. As a member of the Board of Deacons, he was instrumental in the founding and startup of the First Baptist Church School. Mr. Koger personally bought and donated the first school bus for the school. He was also a longstanding member of the West Ashley Civitan Club.
Mr. Koger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Linder Koger. Also a son, Herbert Koger, Jr., and his wife Didie Renau Koger of Charleston, a son Robert Henry Koger of North Carolina and a son, Richard Lee Koger of James Island. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Herbert Koger, III, and his wife Dawn and their children Herbert Koger IV and Emily Marie Koger of Aiken, S.C., Melissa Koger Watson and her husband P.J. and their child Philip Jackson Watson, Jr., of Sumter, S.C., Robert Henry Koger, II, and his wife Elena and daughter Kalena Koger of Florida. Brien Koger and his wife Amy of California. Osee Koger of James Island, S.C.
Also, he is survived by two sisters, Pearl L. Baize of Charleston, Alice E. Thomas of Maryland, and a brother John E. Koger of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by two brothers, David Koger and Vernon Koger and three sisters, Lula K. Bell, Eunice K. Walters and Ruby K. Parsons.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Roper Hospital, Five South Floor, for their kindness and compassion shown to us and our father during his recent stay there. Also, a special thanks to the hospital Chaplain, Capers Limehouse, for her constant vigil and compassion.
The following will serve as pallbearers for the service, Arthur H. Baiden, III, Clyde Shokes, George A. Anderson, William Koopman, Charles F. Jones, Joseph H. Lucas, III, and Jack Limehouse.

ROBERTS, Tony
Mr. Tony Jay Roberts, 51, of 2046 Bama Road died Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Jakie Walters and Rev. Daniel Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Cottageville cemetery, directed by the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Roberts was born in Columbia, a son of Thomas Jefferson "T.J." Roberts and Marian Elizabeth "Betty" Metts Roberts. He was employed in the maintenance department at the VA Medical Center in Charleston and was a former member of the Moose Lodge in New Port, NC. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Hickman Roberts, his mother of Walterboro, his father and stepmother, Linda Roberts of Walterboro, sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Christi Cook of Cottageville and Shane and Detra Roberts of Walterboro, three grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn Cook and Andrew Roberts, a sister, Sherry Roberts of Walterboro, and four brothers, Mark Roberts of Walterboro, Kevin Roberts of Cottageville, and Kim Roberts and Marshall Roberts, both of Walterboro.

ALTMAN, Charles
Mr. Charles "Sambo" Altman, husband of Alice Faye Crosby Altman, died Thursday morning at the Allendale County Hospital. He was 61.
Mr. Altman was born in Fairfax September 17, 1941, a son of the late Freddie Altman Sr. and Gertie Mae Way Altman. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, Mr. Altman was a member of the 1st Cavalry Division. He served 2 tours, and was decorated with 2 Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, the Air Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Vietnam Service Medal. After his active duty service, he joined, and later retired from the Army National Guard. Mr. Altman was also a retired employee of the South Carolina Department of Corrections Prison in Fairfax where he was a Shift Lieutenant. He was a Mason, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfax.
Surviving, besides his wife of Fairfax are: 2 sons: Charles "Sam" Altman, Jr., of Lexington, and Leroy "Lee" Bert Altman, of Pendleton. 2 daughters: Cheryl Marie Kirk, of Seneca, and Jacklyn Kelly Altman, of Fairfax. 2 brothers: Freddie "Bo" Altman, of Shreveport, LA, and Henry Leroy "Pete" Altman, of Hardeeville. 2 sisters: Dorothy Mae Tjapkes, of Muskegon, MI, and Reba Carolyn Youmans, of Guyton, GA. There are 7 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 in the First Baptist Church of Fairfax, with burial following in the Fairfax cemetery. Full Military honors will be rendered. Mrs. Mary Julian Boling, 86, died Thursday, October 10, 2002 at her home in Rock Hill, SC. The service will be held, Monday, October 14, 2002 at Northside Baptist Church, 1140 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC. Interment at Grandview Memorial Park - Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, Dr. Jerry Sosebee officiating.
Mrs. Boling was born in Greensboro, NC and raised in Chester, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Percy Julian and the late Emma Nall Julian.
Mrs. Boling was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She was employed as a weaver working at the JP Stevens Industrial and Srgon Plants and Spring Industries Eureka Plant in Chester, SC. Mrs. Boling was preceded in death by her parents, the late Percy Julian and the late Emma Nall Julian, her husband, Carl A. Boling; her son, Ray E. Boling, and her daughter, Annette Boling. Mrs. Boling is survived by her son, William E. Boling of Goose Creek, SC; her two daughters, Peggy B. Hall and Faye B. Boyd, both of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Feicht was born November 2, 1931 in Darlington, S.C., the daughter of Arthur LaRue Hill and Ida Moseley Hill. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall School and attended Medical College of South Carolina, School of Pharmacy.
Following her marriage in 1950, she left Charleston with her husband and friend of 52 years and lived at various Posts here and abroad. Prior to her return to Charleston in 1980, she served as honorary President of Officer's wives clubs of Fort Greely, Alaska, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Oakdale Support Group, Pittsburgh, PA, Air Defense and First Battalion, 22nd Artillery of the 4th Armored Division. She actively supported Army dependent activities at various Posts in the US, Germany and Italy. Combating cancer over the course of 24 years, she was a constant inspiration to many others afflicted with the same disease.
She is survived by her husband of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter: Michelle F. Laughlin of Prosperity, S.C.; one granddaughter: Carmen Laughlin of Prosperity, S.C. and one Grandson, Calvin Vogel of Tulsa, OK.

DALECH, Frank
Frank Dalech, 84, of Summerville, S.C. died Thursday, October 10, 2002 at a local hospital. Born October 30, 1917 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania he was the son of John and Anna Dalech (nee Shilmitz). Mr. Dalech retired from The Palmer House, Chicago, Illinois. His wife Ruth Dalech preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived by his two daughters Betty Laffey of North Charleston, S.C. and Margaret Creasey of Terre Haute, Indiana. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Chicago, III.
