Donna (Betty) Jean Adams, 54, of 426 Pineneedle Road, Union, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Ms. Adams was born in Union, Dec. 22, 1948, a daughter of the late Fred and Louise Gregory Adams. She was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 1967, and a former employee of Walker's Bantam Chef.
Ms. Adams was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church. Surviving are a sister, Helen Girard of Rockledge, Fla., a niece, Judy Rimer of Greer; four nephews, Leo Girard of Deltona, Fla., Scott Adams of Boiling Springs, Richard Tinsley and Ronnie Tinsley, both of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law, Loree Adams of Spartanburg; cousins, Pat, Bob and Robbie Betenbaugh with whom she made her home and two cousins, Carolyn Abee and Ken Holcombe, both of Union.
She was predeceased by a brother, William (Buddy) Adams. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Tanglewood Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Branch and the Rev. Ken Holcombe. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Abee, Leo Girard, Daniel Abee, Matthew Abee, Robbie Betenbaugh, Scott Adams, David Brewington and Kenny Adams. The ladies of Tanglewood Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group. The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends Sunday night and was placed in the church at 3 p.m. today to await the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to Tanglewood Baptist Church, Piano Fund, 200 Velda Drive, Union, S.C. 29379. The family is at the home of Bob and Pat Betenbaugh, 426 Pineneedle Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Frances H. Epps
Frances Holcombe Epps, 83, of 1805 Devine St., Columbia, former resident of Union, widow of M.L. (Smoky ) Epps, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 at 12:10 a.m. in Chester County Hospital after a sudden illness. Mrs. Epps was born in Union on April 11, 1920, a daughter of the late Kennis and Janie Grady Holcombe. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Hopkins, and a former member of Second Presbyterian Church of Union where she had served as an elder. Mrs. Epps was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. John Epps and his wife, Sally, of Blair; a sister, Mrs. Elliott (Virginia) Smith of Union; two grandchildren, Barry Epps of Columbia and June Hannah of Cope; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. John Epps.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home of her son, Rev. John Epps, 10726 Highway 215 North, Blair. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 5601 Old Leesburg Road, Hopkins, S.C. 29061. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Donnie Fletcher
James Donald (Donnie) Fletcher, 58, of 4046 Lockhart Highway, Union, died Sunday Oct. 26, 2003, at 6:55 p.m. from injuries received in an automobile accident. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Frances D. Ford
Frances D. Reynolds Ford, 68, of 121 Gilead Hill Road, Jonesville, widow of Robert E. Ford Sr., died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at 11:30 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Ford was born in Union on March 22, 1935, a daughter of the late Eugene and Lula Mae Clark Reynolds. She was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and was retired from Label Corp. of Jonesville.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kate F. and Ronnie Huggins of Union; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Ford Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Boiling Springs and Roger and Kim Ford of Jonesville; a brother, Bobby G. Reynolds of Woodruff; six grandchildren, Christi Rudy, Robert E. Ford III, Kathryn Ford, Joshua Ford, Kevin Huggins and Ron Huggins and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ford was predeceased by two sons, John C. Ford and Donald E. Ford. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Jonesville Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bobby Ford, Ron Huggins, Kevin Huggins, Joshua Ford, Neal Craig and Eric Rudy. Members of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class of Jonesville Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group. The body will be at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 pm. Tuesday to await the hour of service.
The family is at the home, 121 Gilead Hill Road, Jonesville. Memorials may be made to the Jonesville Baptist Church Building Fund, Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ed Foster of 4123 Lockhart Highway died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Union Community Funeral Home.
Billy Mitchell
Billy (Bill) Mitchell, 71, husband of Paunese Holt Mitchell, of 124 Michell Circle, Buffalo, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at 10:50 p.m. at the Brookview Health Care Center in Gaffney. Mr. Mitchell was born in Union County on Feb. 18, 1932, the son of the late I. H. and Lanora Hall Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was self-employed and co-owner of Union Awning and Iron. He was an Army and Air Force veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Jamie Mitchell and Tommy Driggers, both of Union; Dr. Tim Driggers of Newman, Ga. (formerly of Buffalo); two brothers, Bobby Mitchell of Buffalo and George Mitchell of Jonesville; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, six step grandchildren, two step great-granddaughters, a number of nieces and nephews and a very special friend, William Smith of Union.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 at 3 p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tim Driggers and the Rev. Johnny Burgess. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens. His body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 9.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Knox, Robert Toney, Buck Vinson, Josh Driggers, Matt Hadden and Billy Ray Holt. Honorary pallbearers will be Olin Lee, Bob Gist, Billy Holmes, Ernest Human, Patsy and Henry Johnson, Sandy Ivey, Jenny Malone, Cindy Baldwin, Clyde Rutledge, Dr. John Flood, and Skillet Morris. Active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. The family is at the home of his mother-in-law, Lovonia Holt, 134 Buffalo St., Buffalo. The Lewis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth M. Munsterman
Ruth M. Munsterman, 89, of 619 Santuc Drive, Union, widow of Rudolph K. Munsterman, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003. in Oakmont Nursing Home. Mrs. Munsterman was born in Virquoria, Wisc., on July 27, 1914, a daughter of the late Christopher Herbert Mills and Katheryn P. Hunt Mills. She was a charter member of Calvery Lutheran Church of Oroville, Calif., and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and attended Salem Baptist Church in Santuc. Mrs. Munsterman was retired from retail shoe sales.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Leonard Green of Santuc. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Baptist Church Organ Fund, Tinker Creek Road, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Phyllis V. Walker
Phyllis Vick Walker, 57, of 112 Wingfield Drive, Union, wife of Jesse P. Walker, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at 7:15 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Walker was born in Union on Aug. 9, 1946, a daughter of the late Ray Cleveland and Clara Poole Vick. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and attended Covenant Baptist Church. Mrs. Walker was a graduate of Union High School and USC-Union.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer W. and Benji Brown of Anderson; three sisters, Joy Vick of Cary, N.C. Mary Jackson of Taylors and Carol Keisler of Union. Private graveside services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Baptist Church Building Fund, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Mary C. Woodsby
Mary Carter Woodsby, 83, of 1225 Arthur Blvd., Union, widow of Clarence Woodsby, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at 7:28 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Woodsby was born in Union on Feb. 6, 1920, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Clara Wade Carter. She was a Baptist and was a retired textile employee.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jennie J. Woodsby of Union; three grandchildren Clary Woodsby, Wendy Woodsby and Casey Woodsby, all of Union; two great-grandchildren, Cherie Woodsby and Candice Woodsby of Union; a sister, Martha Rogers of Union; a brother, Bob Carter of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Randy Smith and the Rev. Ben Hill. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gregg Davis, Colon Duckett, Casey Woodsby, Clary Woodsby, James Pye and Norman Pye. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home, 1225 Arthur Blvd., Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Walter Akers
Walter Akers, 83, husband of Thelma Allen Akers, of 2604 Meansville Road, died Oct. 26, 2002, at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Akers was born in Oneida, Tenn. on June 21, 1919, a son of the late John and Margaret Miller Akers. He was a retired agent with the Life of Virginia Insurance Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a paratrooper during World War II. Mr. Akers was Quartermaster of the VFW in Union and a member and Elder of the Church of Christ.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Brenda Evans of Gaffney; three brothers, Dillard Akers of Burnside, Ken.; Willard Akers of Hazard, Ken.; and Dempsey Akers of Cincinnati, Ohio; a half-sister, Tiny Sue of Scuddy, Ken.; three half-brothers, Joseph Akers, John Akers and David Akers all of Hazard, Ken.; three grandchildren, Coley Evans, Daniel Evans and Linda Goins; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ by Minister Curtis Gilbert. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens with military honors. Active pallbearers will be David Foster, Raymond Climer, Scott Heatherly, Terry Hale, Kent Thompson and Ben Thompson. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to the V.F.W., 1230 Linersville Road, Buffalo, SC 29321. The family is at the home, 2604 Meansville Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Alice Walker Jeter
CARRBORO, N.C. Alice Walker Jeter, 71, died Oct. 24, 2002 at Chapel Hill Rehabilitation and Health Center. Mrs. Jeter was the widow of Max C. Jeter. She was a retired nurse and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chapel Hill.
Surviving are two sons, William Jeter of Carrboro, N.C. ; and Anthony H. Walker of Gaffney; a brother, Albert Walker of Chesnee; a sister, Thurza Willis of Concord, Calif.; and a grandson, Conrad Walker of Gaffney.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chapel Hill with Bishop Clain Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 until 9 at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Walker's Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin St., Chapel Hill, N.C., has charge of arrangements.
