He was predeceased by his parents Francis and Aline Prause Peters.

Marguerite Ulmer Myers, 74, of Summerville, S.C., widow of Harold W. Myers, died Friday, October 4, 2002, at a Summerville hospital.

HOPKINS, Florence
Florence V. Hopkins, 87, of Charleston, died Wednesday, October 2, at a local hospital. She was the wife of the late John Hopkins. Born in Charleston to the late James L. and Florence Munro Valentine. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School and St. Angela's Academy in Aiken, S.C. Mrs. Hopkins retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as an assistant supervisor in the Supply Department. She was a former resident of the Catholic Orphanage that was located on Queen St. Mrs. Hopkins attended Nativity Catholic Church. Surviving Mrs. Hopkins are three daughters, Mary Hopkins Burns, JoAnn F. Boswell, and Ramona Patrick all of Charleston, four sons, John L. Hopkins, Henry Norman Hopkins, David L. Hopkins, and Carl T. Hopkins, all of Charleston, also 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 6, at MCALISTER-SMITH DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Lucille Fender Free, 86, of 150 Azalea Ave., Bamberg, SC, widow of William R. "Bill" Free, Sr., died October 4, 2002 in her home.
Born on January 19, 1916 in Ehrhardt, SC, she was a daughter of the late David Edgar Fender and the late Llewellyn Zeigler Fender. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Bamberg, SC, and a graduate of Winthrop College. Mrs. Free taught school in Cope, Bamberg, Denmark Olar High Schools, and Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. She retired after 38 years of teaching. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, 2002, 11:00 AM in the Trinity United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Jim Dennis and Rev. Chris Poole. Burial will follow in Bamberg Memory Gardens.

Dorothy Moore Watson, 87, of Pinopolis, a retired kindergarten teacher with the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner, died Sunday, at her residence.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in St. John's Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Watson was born October 3, 1915, in Gray Court, S.C., a daughter of Gray Moore and Minnie Franks Moore. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Gladys Farmer Circle. She was the widow of T.M. Watson.
Surviving are three sons, Theodore M. (Tim) Watson of Pamplico; David G. Watson of Summerville; Robert E. (Butch) Watson of Pinopolis; two daughters, Patricia Ann Watson and Michael W. Lewis, both of Pinopolis; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

BLEVINS, Anne
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Anne Soule Lapham Blevins, 73, of 98 Canterbury Road, died Saturday, October 19, 2002 at White Oak Manor from stroke complications. A native of Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lydia Thomas Lapham. She was a former Chairman of the Physics Department at Converse College, a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the American Association of University Women, the Phi Beta Kappa, the American Physics Society, and Sigma XI, a scientific research fraternity. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall School, Charleston, SC, and received a B.S. Degree from the University of Rochester, New York; a Masters in Education at Duke University; and an A.B.D in Theoretical Physics. She formerly served on the Board of the Spartanburg Nature Science Center. She was of the Episcopal Faith.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Maurice E. Blevins of the home; her son, Ernest Everett Blevins of Villa Rica, GA; one brother, Samuel Peyre Lapham of Houston, TX; and one grandchild, Savannah Gayle Blevins of Villa Rica, GA.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel.

HOLLY HILL, S.C. - Mr. Melker L. Clark, 77, of Holly Hill, S.C., died October 17, 2002, at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg. Melker L. Clark was born July 26, 1925, to the late Mr. X.O. Clark and Gracie Clark. He was a member of Greater Unity AME Church. There he was a Trustee Class leader and a member of the Sixty-Plus Club. He was also a member of the Silver Star Quintet. He attended the public schools of Holly Hill, S.C. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he received his training as an electrician. In 1983, he retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 36 years of service. He was joined in Holy Wedlock to the former Ms. Bernice Gaillard. This union was blessed with seven children. Two sons preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Mrs. Bernice Clark of the home; three sons, Charlie Clark of Boston, Mass., James Clark of Washington, D.C., and Terry Clark of Holly Hill; two daughters, Barbara Chancy and Annie Garvin of Holly Hill, S.C.

MCNAMARA, JR., John
PAWLEYS ISLAND - John F. McNamara, Jr., age 77, of South Dunes Dr. in the Litchfield By the Sea community died suddenly Friday, October 18, 2002 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Born March 30, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John F. Sr. and Bertha Sayman McNamara. Mr. McNamara was a WWII Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Fleet. He retired as Vice President of Maher Terminals Inc. in Elizabeth, New Jersey. After his retirement he was a Marine Consultant and Port Captain with Global Shipping Company of Garden City, New York. Earlier in his career, Mr. McNamara was President of Wando Stevedoring in Charleston, South Carolina. He also was the owner/operator of Dugan & McNamara Shipping Co. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and John F. McNamara, Inc. of Duluth, Minnesota. Mr. McNamara was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Murrells Inlet and was a former member of both the Whitehall Club and Downtown Club in New York City. Additionally, he was a member of Precious Blood of Jesus Christ Catholic Church in Pawleys Island.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Peggy McNamara; six sons, John F. McNamara, III and his wife Lori of Charleston, James A. McNamara and his wife Loretta of Albuquerque, NM, Kevin N. McNamara of Santa Barbara, CA, Michael P. McNamara of Charleston, Timothy P. McNamara of Alamo, CA, Robert J. McNamara of Schaumburg, IL; one daughter, Mary C. McNamara of Charleston; a brother, Paul McNamara of Rio Rancho, NM; a sister, Mary Jane Wickman of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Claire, Brice, Colin, Colleen, Blake and Kerry McNamara.
