DEW, George
George Wannamaker Dew, 81, died, September 11, 2002. He was born in Orangeburg on July 23, 1921, and raised in Charleston. He later lived in Hawaii and was a life insurance salesman for Prudential Life Insurance Co. He was a Captain in the United States Marine Corp during W.W.II, and served in the Pacific from 1942-1945. He was a graduate of Davidson College and the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Mr. Dew is survived by three daughters, Beverly Van Horne, Jane Woods, and Nancy Metcalf, and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in Hawaii, with inurnment at National Memorial cemetery of the Pacific. Memorial donations may be made to Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., or a charity of one's choice.

Mabel Gloria Torck Rowland, 85, of Mount Pleasant, SC, formerly of Hanahan, SC, widow of George C. Rowland died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Rowland was born in Mount Pleasant, SC, daughter of Bernhart Frederick and Mary Gregg Torck. She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital. She graduated from Memminger High School in 1936 and worked for Edwards 5 & 10 store on King Street. She was a homemaker for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald D. Rowland of Mount Pleasant, and Edward P. Rowland, of Hanahan, one daughter, Edna G. Armstrong of Florence, SC; one sister, Catherine A. Pittman of Mount Pleasant, SC, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

WHITTIER, N.C. - Robert O'uinn Newton, Sr., formerly of Conway, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at his brothers residence. Mr. Newton was born in Andrews, SC, a son of the late Robert "Bob" and Mary Cleo Thomas Newton. Surviving are two sons, Robert O. Newton, Jr. of Florida and Jason Isaac Newton of the US Navy; one daughter, Tabitha Newton of Puerto Rico; six brothers, Herman Newton, John Newton, Bobby Newton and Mark Newton all of Andrews, Laurie Newton of Conway and David Newton of Pawleys Island; one sister Mary Judy Newton of Andrews and several grandchildren. CONWAY - Clara "Bill" Mishoe Chestnut Taylor, age 76, wife of Leland Taylor, of Highway 19, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Loris Community Hospital following an illness. Mrs. Taylor was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Bud (Duke M.) and Helen Boyd Mishoe. She attended Kingston Baptist Church and was predeceased by one son, Albert Glendale Chestnut and her first husband Albert B. Chestnut. Surviving in addition to her husband of Conway are, one son Grady B. Chestnut and his wife Eva of Conway; one brother, Duke Mishoe and his wife Mary of Wilmington; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at Kingston Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Hackett and Rev. Roger Chestnut officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest cemetery, directed by GOLDFINCH FUNERAL HOME, CONWAY CHAPEL.

Mrs. Andrews was a graduate of James Island High School, and the Barber School of Charleston. She was an active member of the James Island School system and a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church. WILLIAMS, Emma
MONCKS CORNER - Emma Law Woodard Baker Williams, 90, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at Trident Regional Medical Center in Charleston.
Mrs. Williams was born in Hartsville on October 26, 1911, a daughter of the late William Penn Woodard and Bessie Louise Bacot Woodard. After the death of her father, she was adopted and reared by an uncle and aunt, the late Eugene Baker and Corrine Law Baker. Mrs. Williams was a graduate of St. Johns High School in Darlington and Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. She taught school in Berkeley County schools for 38 years and retired in 1974 as the first Adult Education Supervisor of Berkeley Co.
Mrs. Williams was the last surviving charter member of First Presbyterian Church. She served her church as a Trustee, Elder, President of the Women of the Church, and taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Williams was a charter member of Moncks Corner-Pinopolis Book Club that formed in 1936. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Berkeley County Artist Guild, and Senior Friends. Mrs. Williams was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota teaching sororities. She was a former member of the Dorchester Artist Guild and Charleston Artist Guild. Mrs. Williams was a member of Huguenot Society of S.C., as a direct descendant of Pierre Bacot. She was the widow of John O. Williams.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Sister" Williams Beaty and her husband Jim of Moncks Corner; four sons, Willson McKewn "Mack" Williams of Georgetown, Frederick Eugene "Gene" Williams and his wife Jane, John "Jack" Bacot Williams and his wife Mary Julia, and Thomas "Tom" Edgerton Williams and his wife Ann, all of Pinopolis; a sister, Margaret Sims of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 11 o'clock, Thursday morning, October 3, 2002, in First Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Reeves and the Rev. Dr. J. Ben Sloan. Burial will follow in St. Johns Baptist Church cemetery in Pinopolis under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME.

Helen June Hunt Mitcham, 72, of Ridgeville, formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., wife of William Marion Mitcham, Jr., died Tuesday morning in a North Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, 2002, at 3 o'clock in Limestone Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mitcham was born on May 5, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tenn., a daughter of the late Harry Tracy Hunt, Sr., and Zoe Dare Harbiston Hunt. She attended North Charleston High School. She was a member of WMU of Limestone Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
