EDWARDS, Kathryn
GEORGETOWN - Kathryn Hewett Long Edwards, 83, died Saturday, October 19, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Edwards was born at Shallotte in Brunswick Co., N. C. on September 1, 1919, a daughter of the late Anson Wiley Hewett and Queen Victoria Robinson Hewett. She grew up in Shallotte and graduated from high school there. Mrs. Edwards moved to Georgetown in 1940. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Edwards was the widow of James W. Edwards. She was first married
to the late Early Elmer Long.
Surviving are, four daughters, Geraldine L. Jayroe of Georgetown, Kay L. McCain of Oak Hill, Oh., Mary Jane L. Walden of Richmond Hill, Ga., and Sally E. Bohnstengel of Mt. Pleasant; a son, James W. Edwards, Jr. of Newberry; a brother, James E. Hewett and his wife Helen of Wilmington, N. C.; sister-in-law, Gladys Hewett of Wilmington, N. C.; fifteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Edwards was predeceased by a son, E. Elmer Long, Jr.
Funeral services will be two o’clock Monday afternoon, October 21, 2002, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Robbie Sox and the Rev. Richard Jayroe. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens under the direction of the GEORGETOWN CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2002 from four until six o’clock.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Mamie C. Preacher, 90, died Saturday, October 19, at the Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 21, at the Nancy Freeman Stringer Chapel at the Methodist Oaks. Burial, 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 21, at Brunson cemetery, Brunson, S.C.
Mrs. Preacher was born in Georgetown, S.C., a daughter of the late John Cleveland Cone and Frances Bivens Cone. She was a former employee of Conklins Dress Shop. Mrs. Preacher was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Henry A. Preacher, Jr.
Survivors include, one daughter, Mrs. Susan P. Harvey, Marietta, Ga.; two sons, Henry Arren Preacher, Moncks Corner, S.C., John James Preacher, Moncks Corner, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Marian Parks, Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Madeleine Knight, Hanahan, S.C.; three grandchildren, Mark Aubrey Harvey and Terry John Harvey, Marietta, Ga., Christopher Cooper, Moncks Corner, S.C.; two great-grandchildren.

Ms. Hughes was born October 11, 1917 in Rocky Mount, NC, the daughter of Lennie U. Lewis and Maybelle Howard Lewis. She retired after thirty-four years with Sears & Roebuck.
She is survived by two sons: John H. Hughes, III of Charleston, SC and Lennie Lewis Hughes of Elizabeth City, NC; five grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Lennie, Jr., Laurel and Benjamin Hughes. and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Jean Lewis Minges and John H. Hughes.

STICKLEY, Anne
BLACKSBURG, VA - Anne FitzSimons Stickley died on September 18, 2002 at the Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg, Virginia after a 20-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born on June 1, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Clara FitzSimons, her sister Clara Mather FitzSimons, and her brothers Theodore Barker FitzSimons and William Huger FitzSimons. She is survived by her ex-husband Dr. William Sproul Stickley, her sister Amy Grainger, her sons, Robert FitzSimons Stickley MD and Edward Lee Stickley, her daughter Regina Faith Stickley, her granddaughters, Anna Lorraine Harrison and Kimberly Stickley, her grandsons Robert Smallridge Stickley and Samuel FitzSimons Stickley and her great granddaughter Emma Lillian Harrison as well as nieces and nephews who were very special to her, especially Jennifer FitzSimons. She cherished her close friendship with Miwaka Haley.
Her career began as a RN, graduating from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. Anne enjoyed nursing and believed in the close and attentive care that she provided for her patients. She then completed further training at Bowman Gray School of Medicine to become a nurse anesthetist. She married
Dr. William S. Stickley in 1956 subsequently lived overseas in Athens, Greece for two years, making several trips to the Greek islands and to Egypt. She spent the remainder of her life in the Winchester and Strasburg area with much of her time devoted to the renovation and maintenance of her home at Frye Fort. She continued to live in Coal Mine Hollow on Cedar Creek near Strasburg, Virginia, moving to Radford to live near her son.
To her family and friends, Anne is remembered as a woman with many talents. She mastered scuba diving and later went on to obtain her pilot's license. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her own clothing. She enjoyed entertaining and preparing gourmet foods - everyone remembers the eclairs! She enjoyed woodworking, landscaping, planting and constructing stone walls at Frye Fort on Cedar Creek. Her strong personality always let those around her know exactly where they stood. She played mahjong regularly with friends until back pain prevented her from enjoying social activities. She was an avid reader. After taking a course in journalism at Shenandoah University, she had a short story accepted for publication in the Southern Crescent Review, an accomplishment of which she was quite proud.
There will be a gathering of her friends and relatives at the Hotel Strasburg in Strasburg, Virginia on Saturday, October 26, 2002 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM to share memories and photos. In lieu of flowers, any one wishing to make a donation in her name should send it to the Arthritis Foundation, 1330 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309. She will be remembered with love and respect.
