Ms. Torck was born October 27, 1925 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Eibe Marion Torck and Catherine Marie Buck Torck. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Ms. Torck was president of the West Ashley Senior Citizens Association and a member of the Citadel Square Baptist Church Joy Group. She was also a member of the West Ashley Homemakers Association and former member of the Charleston Choral Society. She was a former member of the choir of St. Barnabas Lutheran Church and currently a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church choir.
She is survived by one sister, Elsie T. Landers of Okeechobee, FL; two nephews, Jack E. Landers Jr., of Plano, TX; and Terry M. Landers of Fountain Inn, SC.
Flowers will be accepted and memorials may be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

HUGHES, Maybelle
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of October 18, 2002, Maybelle Lewis Hughes, residence, Charleston, SC. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 20, 2002 at 1 o'clock in Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, NC.
Ms. Hughes was born October 11, 1917 in Rocky Mount, NC, the daughter of Lennie U. Lewis and Maybelle Howard Lewis. She retired after thirty-four years with Sears & Roebuck.
She is survived by two sons: John H. Hughes, III of Charleston, SC and Lennie Lewis Hughes of Elizabeth City, NC; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

TISCHLER, Rose
Rose H. Tischler, 91, a former resident of Charleston, died on Sunday, October 13, 2002 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Mrs. Tischler was born November 19, 1910 in Amsterdam, New York. After receiving her bachelor's degree with honors from Albany State Teacher's College, she taught high school French and history. In 1976 she was named a Patroon in Schenectady, New York, the city's highest civic award. Some of her other accomplishments include serving as President of the New York State Medical Auxiliary, heading major fundraising campaigns to found the Annie Schaffer Senior Center and for her congregation, Temple Gates of Heaven, as well as being the first woman to serve as President of the local Board of the United Way. Other honors she received are Outstanding Alumna from SUNY, Albany, Distinguished Service Award B'nai B'rith, Volunteer of the Year, United Way, and inclusion, for many years, in Who's Who of American Women.
In addition to her community service while in Schenectady, NY, Mrs. Tischler was also a community leader in Sarasota and Bradenton, FL and lived for several years in Largo, FL and Charleston, SC before moving to Colorado Springs
She was the wife of the late Dr. Louis P. Tischler, developer of the Tischler Biopsy Punch and a pioneer in fertility and cancer treatments in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Her brothers Abram and Irving Handler predeceased her.
Survivors include two sons, Howard M., Albuquerque, NM and Paul S., Bethesda, MD; two daughters, Judith Rogers, Colorado Springs, CO and Emmi LeVasseur, Charleston, SC; three sisters, Beatrice Engelberg, Chicago, IL, Evelyn Geiger, Bradenton, FL, and Dorothy Frankel, Coconut Creek, FL; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in early December in Schenectady, New York. Private burial is planned. Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Elohim's Building Fund, 86 S. Hasell Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

Mr. Mills was born in Columbia, S.C. on November 25, 1941, a son of the late John Houston and Rozell Mungo Mills, Sr. He attended Richland County Schools and served in The USAF, Mr. Mills retired as a service technician from Sears-Roebuck Co. and is a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of Goose Creek, two sons, John Houston Mills, III and Bobby Ray Mills both of Goose Creek, S.C. one daughter, Connie Sue Mills Saunders of North Charleston, S.C., one brother, Ralph Mills of Columbia, S.C., one sister, Beverly M. Swanson of Yountville, Ca. and one granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Sanders of North Charleston, S.C.
