PT. WENTWORTH, GA - Mr. Benjamin Thomas Bath, 82, died on Thursday, September 26 at his residence.
The Toombs County native was retired from Union Camp. He was a WW II Army Veteran and a member of Bonnybridge Baptist Church. He had attended First Baptist Church of Pt. Wentworth.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Sheffield Bath of Port Wentworth; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Bath (Richard) Mock of Charleston, SC; a granddaughter, Stacey Mock (Bob) Hodgdon of Savannah; a grandson, Brian Mock of Charleston; a sister, Maggie Golding of Blitchton; brothers, John M. (Louise) Bath of Guyton, Donald Bath of Troy, AL, Jimmie J. (Peggy) Bath, Jesse L. Bath, and James A. (Bonnie) Bath, all of Stilson, and Eugene T. (Norma) Bath of Blitchton; and many nieces and nephews.

SWAIN, Hilda
Hilda M. Swain, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died at her residence September 26, 2002. The daughter of George E. and Bella Baker Swain, she was born in Baden, PA, May 6, 1909. She attended Ambridge PA High School, and Post-Graduate Schools in Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Charleston, SC. She was a clerk at Charleston Naval Shipyard from 1942 until her retirement in 1967. Miss Swain was a former member of The Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Cathedral Catholic Women's Club, a member of the Cathedral Choir and a member of the NARFE. she was presently a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. Miss Swain was the last surviving member of fifteen children. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, September 29, 2002 from 6 - 9 PM at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. CARTER, Betty
WILLIAMS - Betty Folk Carter, 86, widow of Leonard Stanley Carter, died Friday at the residence of her daughter in Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at Ehrhardt Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Herby Mabire. Interment will be in Bethany cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carter was born September 10, 1916 in Miley, a daughter of the late Owen Weissinger Folk and Helen Juanita Thomas Folk. She was a member of Ehrhardt Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Union. She taught Sunday School for many years.
Surviving are three daughters, Barri J. (Rick) Kelly and Jacqueline C. Miller, both of Columbia, Nita C. (Paul) Warren of Williams; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

CHILDERS, James
Mr. James F. Childers, 75, of 298 Drexel Avenue, Orangeburg, SC, died Thursday afternoon, September 26, 2002, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, September 29, 2002 at Rivelon Baptist Church in Orangeburg. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM before the service. Rev. Larry Williams and Rev. Frank Hay will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Orangeburg.
Tommy Haigler, Timmy Boyleston, Alvin Edgemon, Melton Morris, Tom Porterfield, and Ed Wilson will serve as active pallbearers.
Jim Childers Sunday School Class of Rivelon Baptist Church will serve as honorary pall bearers.
Mr. Childers was born on September 15, 1927 in Atmore, Alabama, the son of the late J.A. Childers and the late Annie Lou Kennedy Childers. He was a member of Rivelon Baptist Church, a Sunday School Teacher of the Jim Childers Sunday School Class, and he served as deacon and church moderator. He was retired from K-Mart as a security manager. He served many years of law enforcement in Tampa, Florida. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World; Past President of Woodmen of the World Local Lodge #17. He was a past SC. Jurisdictional President of Woodmen of the World. He was on the Fraternal Service Committee of the Woodmen of the World; the Scholarship Committee, National Representative of Woodmen of the World; member and Past President of the Log Rollers of Woodmen of the World. He organized the Epilepsy Association in Orangeburg and served as president. He also served on the Board of Directors for the SC Epilepsy Organization. He served in the US Army and the Merchant Marines.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Melvin Childers, and Earl Childers.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Etheridge Childers of Orangeburg; 4 daughters, Sharon Lynn Grace of Plant City, FL, Karen Hunt of Brookville, FL, Mrs. Russell (Becky) Holton of Gray, GA, Sandy Jones of St. Augustine, FL; 2 sons, Ronnie Allen O'Neal of Orangeburg, Mickey O'Neal of Macon, GA; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Joe (Frances) Shelley of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Jimmy (Vickie) Flynn of Macon, GA, Mrs. Gerry Watts of Valdosta, GA, Sara Mayson of Macon, GA; 1 brother-in-law, Ben Etheridge of Macon, GA.
