Born March 29, 1941, in Andrews, S.C., Mr. McCants was the son of the late Robert Hewey and Sudie Norton McCants. He was a retired electrician and was a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church. Mr. McCants was a member of the St. Andrews AFM #367.
Surviving Mr. McCants are his wife, Louise Crosby McCants of Charleston; two daughters, Roberta M. Ervin of Everett, Wash., and Dana R. Stowe of Charleston; a son, Robert E. McCants, Jr., of Summerville; two sisters, Sherry Horner of Ponte Verde Beach, Fla., and Lucy Byrne of Satellite Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Bryan Wood, Megan Wood, James Ervin, Charli McCants, Andy McCants and Austin Stowe.

MANNING, Thomas
Entered into eternal rest, Sunday, September 22, 2002, Thomas Orvin Manning, at his residence in Charleston. The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR'S, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Burial will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Manning was born September 5, 1936, in Charleston, the son of James Robert and Bevvie Orvin Manning. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey Smoak Manning, his parents, and sister Mary Manning Kirby. He is survived by his sisters, Bevvie Manning Popivchak, Dessie Manning Davis, and Theresa Manning Presnell; and one brother, Robert E. Manning. He is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews to whom he was very dear.
He was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School and earned his B.S. Degree in 1979 from the Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern University). He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War ear and, later, in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 12 years. He retired from the U.S. Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Metal Inspector after 34 years of service. He continued in this field after his retirement, employed by Soil Consultants, Inc. He also was a part-time teacher with the St. Andrews High School and West Ashley High School.
He will be remembered as a sports enthusiast by the local sports community. He was employed for more than 25 years by the local minor league baseball teams including the White Sox, Rainbows, and the Riverdogs and was the subject of several TV and newspaper articles. He also served on the ticket sales staff for the Citadel basketball and football teams for many years.

Born July 17, 1912, in Trio, S.C., Mrs. Vazquez was the daughter of the late John Woody Lockliear and Betty Veteria Rowell Lockliear. She was a retired hairdresser and was a Methodist.
Surviving Mrs. Vazquez are a brother, Rhett Lockliear of Moneta, Va.; two sisters, Odessa Cox of Charlotte, N.C., and Montease Hydrick of Kingstree; a step-son, Richard West of Tallahassee, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Lempesis was born March 3, 1924, in Samos Island, Greece, the daughter of Christ Pepergias and Zafera Menegas Pepergias. She was the retired owner and operator of Flora's Grocery Store. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Lillie Timmons of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Christine L. Ricks of Ravenel, S.C.; one sister, Mary Castanes of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gertler was born October 23, 1918, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of James Oliver Skinner, Jr., and Corinne Gregorie Skinner. She was retired with First Federal of Charleston as property management officer and had her own interior decorating business. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Flower Guild of Grace Church, and the Episcopal Church Women.
She is survived by one son, Charles A. Gertler and his wife Barbara of Evans, Georgia; one grandson, Charles Eugene Gertler and one grandfather, Lauren Faye Gertler; one sister, Margaret S. Simmonite of Mount Pleasant, S.C.

DAVIS, Kathleen
Mrs. Kathleen Stevens Brunson Davis, widow of John Paul Davis, died Monday evening in the Allendale County Hospital after an extended illness. She was 62.
Mrs. Davis was born May 20, 1940 in Miley, a daughter of the late David Chessley Stevens and Eula Mae Martin. She was first married
to the late William E. Brunson. She was a retired seamstress with D & B Manufacturing and was a member of the Church of God O Prophecy in Hampton where she was actively involved in the children's ministry.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Lisa Bodiford of Barnwell, Sandy Gleaton of Livingston, SC, Susan Godley of Hampton; 4 brothers, Joe Stevens of Lena, Raymond Stevens of Fairfax, Clark Stevens of Augusta, and Jerome Altman of Hampton; 1 sister, Nita Mae Johnson of Walterboro. There is a nephew that Mrs. Davis raised as a son, Joseph Stevens of Fairfax. There are 9 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 AM in the Church of God O Prophecy in Hampton, with burial following in the Brunson cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 - 9 PM at the funeral home. PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME of Hampton is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Rutledge Elliott, 41, of Hanahan, husband of Claudine Townley Elliott, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 in a Charleston hospital.

Mr. Elliott was born on July 13, 1961 in Hanahan, South Carolina, son of Herbert M. and Frances Mathewes Elliott of Hanahan, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Hanahan High School where he played football. He attended Spartanburg Methodist Junior College, Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was an equipment operator with Rogers & Son Construction and Hill Construction and also former owner of General Plumbing. He was a member of North Charleston Church of God.
Surviving are his wife; his parents; 3 daughters, Melinda Poindexter of Georgia, Sheila Barrs of John's Island, Billie Evans of Summerville; 1 son, Samuel H. Elliott of Hanahan; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, Hans Elliott of Hanahan; 1 sister, Michelle McEachern of Acworth, Georgia.

BIGGS, Macy
GEORGETOWN - Macy S. Duggan Biggs, 85, widow of Montgomery Herman Biggs, Jr., died Monday, September 23, 2002 in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, 2002 at 11:00 AM in Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Rev. Paul C. Fuener. Burial, directed by GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, will follow in the churchyard.
She was born December 21, 1926 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Edward Wilson Sistare and Pearl Lathan Sistare.
She was a 1938 graduate of Winthrop College and for many years was an elementary teacher with the Georgetown County Schools. She also taught piano in her home during her career. She was a member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church.
Surviving are one son, Montgomery Herman Biggs, III of Bainbridge Island, Washington; one daughter, Mary B. Piepenbring of Valrico, Florida; three grandchildren, Montgomery Herman Biggs IV of Port Angeles, Washington, Richard Lee Piepenbring of Tampa, Florida, and Mary Elizabeth Piepenbring of Valrico, Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
