KURTZ, Herman
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of September 18, 2002, Herman Kurtz, widower of Gertrude Goldberg Kurtz. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services Friday at eleven o'clock at the graveside in Brith Sholom Beth Israel cemetery, "Maryville."
Mr. Kurtz was born November 16, 1907 in Patterson, New Jersey, the son of Rubin Kurtz and Lena Abramson Kurtz. He retired as president and owner of N. Goldberg Company. He was a member of the Brith Sholom Beth Islrael Synagogue, life member of Charleston Elks Lodge # 242 and Friendship Lodge #9, A.F.M.
He is survived by one son, Arthur J. Kurtz of Charleston, SC; one daughter; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

JESSUP, Thelma
Thelma M. Jessup, 73, of North Charleston, widow of Romie E. Jessup, Sr., died Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at her residence.
A funeral service will be held, Friday, September 20, 2002, at 11 a.m., at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
Born June 30, 1929, in Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Milton M. Moorer and Alma Clayton Moorer. Mrs. Jessup was a retired clerk for Kerrisons Department Store. She was a member of the Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jessup was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was well known for her wonderful cooking. Survivors include, one daughter, Margaret Darlene Jessup, of North Charleston, three sons, Romie E. Jessup, Jr., of North Charleston, M. Franklin Jessup of West Ashley, Joseph R. Jessup and wife Christine of Moncks Corner, one sister, Llewellyn Appel of Goose Creek, one brother, Charlie O. Moorer, of North Charleston, six grandchildren, Joey Jessup, Olivia Cummings, Mark Jessup, Brandon Jessup, Deanna Jessup and Jessica Jessup, and three great-grandchildren.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Julian A. Ott, 81, died Wednesday morning, September 18, at his residence in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Friday, September 20, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Terry Peele officiating. Burial in Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William B. Cox, Jimmy Dantzler, William T. Taylor, Bert Pooser, Leonard Sanford, and Fischer Walter.
Mr. Ott was born in Elloree a son of the late Ben Tillman Ott and Florence Myers Ott. He was a retired hotel and motel developer and operator. Mr. Ott graduated from Clemson University in 1942. He was a former chairman of the South Carolina Tourism Board, a member of IPTAY, and a member of the Gamecock Club. Mr. Ott was a member and past president of Kiwanis Club of Orangeburg. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in W.W.II. Mr. Ott was a member of First Baptist Church. He was predeceased by a daughter, Melinda Kay Ott.
Survivors include, his wife, Mrs. Mary Braswell Ott, of the home; three sons, Julian Asbury Ott, Jr., of Van Nuys, Calif., Rembert Myers Ott, Orangeburg, and Timothy Calvin Ott, Walterboro; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Miriam) Burriss, Elloree, and Mrs. Dal (Clarence) Felkel, Florence; two granddaughters, Remmi Chandler Ott, Orangeburg, Kristen Ott Parrotte, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and two great-grandson, Kyle and Evan Parrotte, Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning, September 18, 2002, Rev. Dr. Louis Osborne (L.O.) Johnson of 320 Morrison St., Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He was State Accountant for the A.M.E. Church and retired Pastor of Olive Branch A.M.E. Church, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Calvary A.M.E. Church, North Charleston, S.C. He was also a retired U.S. Postal Supervisor and an active participant of Pastoral Care through the Greater Charleston Area Hospitals. He was affectionately called "the Community Pastor."
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Ida Mae Richardson Johnson, and four children, Othelia Mae Oatman of Charleston, S.C., Louis O. WHITE, Helen
STATESBORO, GA. - Mrs. Helen Grace Creasy White, age 88, died Wednesday morning at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. A native of Wayne County Tennessee had lived in Charleston, S.C. for many years before moving to Statesboro in April of 2000. Mrs. White was a retired beautician and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charleston, S.C.
Surviving are a daughter, Lou White of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Melva Nesmith of Denmark and Hazel Harvey of Lexington, Kentucky; four brothers Obern Creasy of Denmark GA, N.H. Creasy of Port Wentworth; Robert Creasy of Loganville, GA and Franklin Creasy of Valdosta.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. White will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Nevils United Methodist Church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Arant was born in Bowman, a son of George Harold Arant and Catherine Berry Arant. He was the owner of Triple A Farms. Mr. Arant graduated from Clemson University in 1959. He was active in local and state groups in support of dairy farming. In 1996, Mr. Arant was inducted into the Dairy Hall of Fame at Clemson University.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margie Smoak Arant, of the home; his mother and father of Bowman; children, Mr. and Mrs. Perry (Dayle) Arant, Orangeburg, Mr. and Mrs. Hal (Kathy) Arant, Bowman, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Beth) Turner, Bowman; grandchildren, Todd Arant, Tyler Arant, Brent Arant, Liz Turner, Maria Arant, Hayne Turner.

WALTERBORO - Mrs. Thelma Ruth Brown, 75, of 246 Carolina Circle, died Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Mrs. Brown was born February 7, 1927 in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was a daughter of the late Drayton and Christine Elizabeth Wolffe Miller. She retired after eighteen years of service as a Deputy Sheriff with the Lafayette, Indiana Sheriff's Department. She was a member of the North Walterboro Baptist Church and was the widow of the late Ralph Lamar Brown.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonita B. Roberge of Summerville; two sons, Michael Lamar Brown of Reno, Nevada, and R. Jeffery Brown of Tampa, Florida; a sister, Alma Johnson of Kokomo, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
