MCCLELLANVILLE - Legare M. Duke, Sr., 78, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 in a Charleston hospital.
Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2002 at 1:00 PM in New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Walter Cook. Inurnment, directed by GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME OF GEORGETOWN, will be in McClellanville Presbyterian cemetery.
He was born February 19, 1924 in McClellanville, a son of the late Thomas Pascal Duke, Sr. and Loulie Legare Morrison Duke.
He was a retired district forester with the SC State Commission of Forestry. He was a 1952 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a retired state constable, a member of the civic club of McClellanville, and a member of the Town of McClellanville Tree Committee.
He was an US Navy World War II Veteran and was part of the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach. He was a member and Elder of New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, L. Morrison Duke, Jr. of Simpsonville and Pascal E. Duke and his wife Maria of the home; one daughter, Debbie D. Fulmer and her husband Eddie of Prosperity; four grandchildren, Georgia F. Kirkpatrick of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Allen B. Fulmer of Prosperity, Aelacia O. Duke of Newberry, and Beren W.L. Duke of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Hunt Kirkpatrick and Sarah Kirkpatrick, both of Hendersonville, Tennessee; three sisters, Roberta D. Winey, and Elizabeth D. Warren, both of Summerville, and Jeanie D. McIntyre of Sumter; and a numbe of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 625 Venning Street, McClellanville.

WALTERBORO - Mr. Donald Allen Dail, 48, of 4707 Maple Ridge Road, Walterboro, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 o'clock Friday, September 20, 2002, at the Welch Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, directed by the Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel.
Mr. Dail was born November 2, 1953 in Wayne County, North Carolina, and was a son of Morrice Everett Dail and Effie Mae Bridges. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a former employee with Carmichael Oil in Walterboro, and was a member of Welch Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his father of Goldsboro, NC and his mother of Fayetteville, NC, are his wife, Sherry H. Dail; a son, Christopher Dail of Calgary, Alberta; a daughter; a sister, Frances Grantham of Fayetteville, NC; and one grandson.
Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 PM this Thursday evening at the Welch Creek Baptist Church.

Lyda Belle Greene, 88, of Summerville, S.C., widow of William Grady Greene, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at her residence. Mrs. Greene was born on May 5, 1914, in Saluda, N.C., a daughter of George B. Davis and Maude Stanton Davis. She was a homemaker and member of Summerville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Greta Ballard and her son-in-law, Fred Ballard, both of Summerville; one grandson, Fred Ballard, Jr., of Little Rock, Ark.; two granddaughters, Stephanie Trzeciakiewicz of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and Amy Bowman of Summerville; and seven great-grandchildren.

MORGAN, James
James Irvin Morgan, 59, of Hanahan, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 17, 2002. Born in Port Huron, Mich., on January 8, 1943. He is the son of Ruth William Tucker and the late Samuel Franklin Morgan. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and an employee of East Coast Pest Management. He enjoyed golf, gardening, watching boxing and was a loyal listener to Dan Moon on talk radio. Preceeded in death by his father, his survivors include, his wife, Janet Carol Morgan of Hanahan, S.C.; two step-sons, Jackie Dean Mathus, Jr., of Centralia, Ill., and Charles Stephen Mathus of Summerville, S.C.; two daughters, Lorretta Tina Carrigan of New Jersey and Joselyn Epple of Gulf Port, Fla.; a step-daughter, Susan Deann Rickards of Hanahan, S.C.; two brothers, Glenn E. Morgan of Missouri and Lavern Sloat of Centralia, Ill; and a sister, Connie of Arizona, and seven grandchildren. BROADWELL, Christine
Christine Mayer Broadwell, 71, loving mother, grandmother and a retired systems administrator with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, September 14, 2002, at her home in North Charleston, S.C. Born December 13, 1930, in Elligen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Christine Mayer (nee Hausner). She was a graduate of Webster University, where she received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award. She graduated from Baptist College at Charleston, S.C., Magna cum Laude and also received degrees from Trident Technical College. While at Lockheed, Christine received the Twenty-Year Lockheed and Field Ballistic Missile Certificates. She was a President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Lockheed Charleston Chapter of the National Management Association, and received the chapter's President's Service Award for 1985-1987. Christine also was an adjunct professor of computers and German at Webster University, Limestone College, and Trident Technical College. A talented musician, Christine enjoyed playing the accordion, piano and singing for many Lowcountry events including Oktoberfests, Robert Ivy Theater Productions, and for nursing homes and hospitals. She was the organist and choir director for St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church in Summerville and St. Tomas Catholic Church in North Charleston. Christine and her late husband, Lee, were charter members of the General W.C. Westmoreland/Charleston Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars. She was also a member of the International Club, the Edelweiss Singers, and Toastmasters of Charleston. She enjoyed gardening and bridge. preceded in death by her husband, Lee Broadwell. She is survived by her children, Louis Broadwell of North Charleston, S.C.; Carl Broadwell of North Charleston, S.C.; Romy Rivera and her husband, Edgar, of Charleston, S.C.; and Patricia Stephenson and her husband, Paul, of Allendale, Mich.; and one sister, Georgine Mayer de da Silva, of Asuncion, Paraguay; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She had one brother, Carl Ludwig Mayer. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., today, today, Thursday, September 19 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel. KASSIS, Najib
Najib John Kassis, 79, of Charleston, husband of S. Nouha Kassis, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2002, at a local hospital. Born Zahle, Lebanon to the late Aziz and Zakia Shahid Kassis. Mr. Kassis was co-owner of Kassis Brothers Shoe Store. John and his brother Fred Kassis started the shoe store in Zahle, Lebanon, then opened in Australia, and finally came to Charleston, SC to open at 237 King St. After many years of building special orthopedic shoes for people, they then moved their business to 1890 Sam Rittenburg Blvd. Since that time for the past 10 years, Mr. John Kassis has been very ill, by his side for 33 years, his wife Nouha, has cared for him every step of the way. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and like his entire family he was a devoted family man. Surviving Mr. Kassis is his wife; a son, Tony M. Kassis and his wife Amy of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Camille Stebbins and her husband Mike of Charleston, and Kelly Kassis of Charleston; two brothers, Fred and Raymond Kassis, both of Charleston; two sisters, Yvonne Shahid and Renee Kadlecik, both of Charleston; many nieces and nephews. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Thursday, September 19 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
