KNOXVILLE, TN - Sam Houston Snelgrove, 82, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2002, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice, Knoxville, TN. Born in Clinton, South Carolina, Mr. Snelgrove served his country with the US Navy and was retired from IBM after 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Eli Snelgrove. He is survived by daughters, Nancy S. Ribotto (Joe) of Redlands, CA, Teri Elizabeth Snelgrove, Samantha Willine Snelgrove, and Spencer Houston Snelgrove, all of Greenback, TN; sons, El Ron Snelgrove (Becky), William Francis Snelgrove (Sandra), both of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law, Beverly Snelgrove of Spartanburg, SC; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. A private family graveside memorial service is planned for Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at Roseberry Baptist Church cemetery, 2920 Roseberry Rd., Mascot, TN, with Rev. Robert Burkhart, officiating. RHODES, Sarah
WALTERBORO - Sarah Mae Harrison Rhodes, 88, died Sunday, September 8, 2002 in a local hospital.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at 3:00 PM in Aimwell Presbyterian Church USA, Walterboro. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rhodes was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Julia and Jack Harrison. She attended public schools in Colleton County. She was a member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church USA.
She was united in holy matrimony to Harold Rhodes, Sr. To this union, eleven children were born. Mrs. Rhodes and three children, Loristine, Carolyn, and Maliciah preceded her in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Annie Mae Kinsey, Jane Washington, Vivian Williams, all of Walterboro, Patsey Jiles of Charleston, and Eva Ruth Huggins of Yemasee; three sons, Harold Rhodes, Jr., Matthew Rhodes, and Nehemiah Rhodes, all of Walterboro; a sister, Annabelle Teasdell of Walterboro; and a brother, Walter Harrison of Walterboro.

TANTUM, Janet
Janet Burks Tantum, of Charleston, died at her residence. She was born in Balboa, Panama to the late Horace Elliot Burks and Virginia Crowe Burks Briggs. She was also the stepdaughter of Mr. Loutrel Briggs, famed Charleston Landscape Architect. Mrs. Tantum attended Fairfax Hall, in Waynesboro, VA and graduated from the College of Charleston. She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and retired from teaching in the Charleston County and North Carolina schools. She was a past member of the Preservation Society of Charleston, The Gibbs Museum, College of Charleston Alumni Association, and L'Alliance Francaise. She was also a descendant of Gen Zebulon Pike, discoverer of Pikes Peak. A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2002, at St. Philip's Chapel, 142 Church St., with Canon Samuel Cobb, Rector Emertious, presiding. Virginia May Almers, 81, wife of Willie J. Almers, of Charleston, died Sunday, September 8, 2002 at a local hospital. Born in Charleston to the late Daniel E. Murrill, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Whitehurst Murrill. Mrs. Almers was a graduate of Memminger High School and Rice Business College. She was a member of the Quis Qui Auxiliary, and attended Charleston First Baptist Church. She retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a public relations officer. Mrs. Almers is survived by her husband of 61 years, Willie J. Almers; three sons, William M. Almers and his wife Kathy of Florence, SC, Daniel A. Almers and his wife Carolyn of Charlotte, NC, and David H. Almers and his wife Zina of Hillsboro, NC; a brother, Daniel E. Murrill, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Mr. Dubois was born October 17, 1920 in Bamberg, South Carolina, the son of the late Vander and Darling Esther Smith Dubois. He was a US Army Veteran, having served in World War II, and received the Purple Heart Medal and was a retired Civil Service Flight Engineer.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston Heights, SC; three sons, Charles C. Dubois, Jr. of Summerville, SC, Clinton Dubois and Glenn Dubois, both of Charleston Heights, SC; one daughter, Lindia Dubois of North Charleston, SC; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Dubois was preceded in death by a son, Cleve Dubois.

Surviving Mr. Craft are a daughter, Karen Winningham of Summerville; two sons, Kevin Craft of Goose Creek, Jay Darryl Craft of Pinopolis; an aunt, Margarette Elise Booth of James Island; and eight grandchildren.
