JASKWHICH, Cynthia
GREENVILLE - Cynthia Sheperd Jaskwhich, 54, died on September 4, 2002, at 7 PM, after a battle with a rare form of ovarian cancer. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Michael, of 35 years. They've been blessed with six wonderful children, Dr. David Jaskwhich of Summerville, SC and his wife Darcy and their children, Emily Roberta, McKinney Michael, Jacob Harrison, and Elizabeth Grace; daughters, Dr. McLean Stith of Charleston, SC and her husband, Aram, Jordan Elm and her husband, Daniel, Sheperd Porter and her husband, Giles, Julia Jaskwhich and her love, Allan Greenidge, and Emrys Jaskwhich. She was also survived by her mother, a sister, and a brother, all of Grand Rapids, MI.
Cynthia, a published poet, was passionate about teaching poetry. She taught nearly twenty years to thousands of students at hundreds of schools around the state. She leaves behind a treasury of bubble gum poems.
She was an avid gardener and at no time did she feel closer to God than when her hands were in the earth. She was a Baha'i and was blessed with a firm and immovable faith.
A memorial service will be held at the Jaskwhich's home in Greenville at 20 Cameron Lane of Saturday, September 14, at 10:30 AM. The family will receive visitors afterwards. NAPIER, Frances
Frances Melvin Napier, 84, of Hill Street, Moncks Corner, SC, a former hotel and restaurant manager, died Friday in a Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM this Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2002, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will be in Berkeley Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Napier was born July 22, 1918, in Bonifay, FL, a daughter of Carlton Alexandra Melvin and Ruby Lee Newton Melvin. She was the widow of Julian Hayes Napier. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Napier and a grandson, Scott Napier. Mrs. Napier was a member of the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary N. Martin of Moncks Corner, two sons, Jeff Napier of Charleston, Joel Napier of Macedonia; a sister, Margaret Andosca of Birmingham; two brothers, Jerry Melvin of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Frank Melvin of Bakersfield, CA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
DOWNS, Fred
Fred M. Downs, Sr., 88, husband of the late Yolanda Downs of James Island, died Thursday, September 5, 2002 at his residence. Born in Tupper Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Gildner Downs. He was retired as a civil engineer and was a member of the James Island American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Downs is survived by his son, Fred M. Downs, Jr., and wife Rosemary of Charleston; three daughters, Joann Barksdale and her husband Lew of Virginia, Denise McElwee and husband Jack of Charleston, Loretta Little and husband Rick of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Brant Barksdale, Michael Barksdale, Teresa Barksdale, Johnny McElwee, Allison McElwee, Greg Anderson, Heather Walpole, and Mimi Condon. Also survived by nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 2 PM Monday, September 9, 2002 at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Interment will follow on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando, FL. BUSBEE, William
Services for William Eli Busbee, 24, formerly of Columbia, will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at DUNBAR FUNERAL HOME, DEVINE STREET CHAPEL, COLUMBIA, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia. Mr. Busbee died Saturday, September 7, 2002. Born in Atlanta, Ga., he was a son of Rodney Lester and Jacquelyn Beth Brantley "Susie" Busbee. He was a graduate of USC with a degree in Marketing and Management and a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia and attended Sea Coast Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Busbee was the Charleston area manager for Columbia Fluid System Technologies.
Surviving are his parents of Columbia; brother, Brantley Dantzler Busbee of Columbia; maternal grandparents, Jackie C. Brantley of Columbia and the late Bert A. Mrs. Chanson was born April 19, 1919, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of Clark Jennings True and Caroline Reutinger True. She was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church and sang in the Joy Group Choir. She was a member of the Isle of Palms Ladies Auxiliary Exchange Club, and well known employee of Condon's Shoe Department on King Street.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan C. Dorn of Yonges Island, S.C., and Marcia T. Hardee of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Dorothy Monk of Isle of Palms, S.C.; three brothers, Jack True of Sarasota, Fla., George True of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jimmy True of Grove City, Ohio; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her sister, Mary Stapleton, predeceased her.
