Rochester "Chet" Walker, 57, died Thursday, September 5, 2002, in a Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be on Sunday, September 8, 2002, at 1:00 PM in Hickory Hill Baptist Church, Cottageville. Burial will be in Heavenly rest cemetery, Walterboro.
Mr. Walker was born in Wilmington, NC and was a son of the late Milton and Albertha Walker. He attended the public schools in North Carolina and New York.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Walker of Summerville; a son, Charles Ashe of Hackensack, NJ; a daughter, Nicol Ashe of Summerville; a sister, Marian Barksdale of Bronx, NY; and a brother, Bernarde Walker of Wilmington, NC; three aunts, Lucille Greene of Brooklyn, NY, Katie Greene of Baltimore, MD, and Lula Mae Greene of Toledo, OH.

MT. PLEASANT - Dicksie Barfield Zeigler, 89, died Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Sandpiper Convalescent Home, Mt. Pleasant, SC.
She was born in Wilmington, NC. She resided in Norfold, VA, Florence, SC, Winter Park, FL, and Mt. Pleasant, SC.
She was the daughter of Arthur Dick Barfield and Ollie Husbands Barfied. She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Z. Croft of Mt. Pleasant, SC and her son-in-law, Edward J. Croft; grandsons, Eddie and Brad; a sister, Betty Burton; brothers, Sam and Travis Barfield, all of Norfolk, VA, Jack Barfield of Port Charlotte, FL; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was formerly married
to the late Dr. Rowland Ziegler.
She attended McClenaghan High School in Florence. She taught dancing in Florence and was a charter member of Terpsichorean Dance Club. She was also a member of the Florence Junior Welfare League, and the Florence Garden Club. She was a Sunday school teacher at Central United Methodist Church in Florence. She was a member of East Cooper Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
The funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday, September 8, 2002 in WATERS-POWELL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.

PETERSIME, Linda
LANCASTER, SC - Ms. Linda Janette Snipes Petersime, age 59, of 1839 High Point Circle, died Friday evening, August 30, 2002 at her home. She was born April 26, 1943 in Bethune, the daughter of the late Mr. William Robert Snipes and Mrs. Lillian Mosley Snipes. Ms. Petersime retired as an inspector for Cummings Engine Company in Charleston, SC.
Ms. Petersime is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Elisa Rutland of Charleston; a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Helms and her husband Wayne of Lancaster; and one grandchild, Tabitha Rutland.
Ms. Petersime was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Russell Rutland and Mr. Virgil Shawn Rutland.
The services for Linda were private.

ROWE, Grace
GLOUCESTER POINT, VA. - Grace Lee Rowe, age 95, died peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2002, at Cypress House, an assisted living facility in Summerville, S.C. Mrs. Rowe studied at the College of William & Mary and was principal at the Walter Reed School, a one-room schoolhouse. She taught in the Gloucester County Schools for over 30 years. Grace Lee was an active member in Bethany United Methodist Church and treasurer for many years. Also, an active volunteer in the 4-H Club, and received the award for 50 years of volunteer work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Rowe; parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Smith, Jr.; four brothers, Guy, Jack, Peter William, and Bert Smith; two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Louise Nuttall.
Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Sutton and husband VC of Summerville, S.C., Mary Lee Rowe and husband Eric Rosenfeld of Gloucester Point; two brothers, Graham Smith and Ken Smith of Schley; four grandchildren, Bill Sutton of Summerville, S.C., John Sutton and wife Carolyn of Chesapeake, Melissa Weber and husband Ron of Chesapeake, Scott Sutton and wife Linda of S. Elgin, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Mary Beth, Christopher and Anne Weber, Hannah Grace and Noah Sutton and Taylor Sutton.

WALDHEIM, Jack
PAWLEY'S ISLAND - Jack Victor Waldheim, 87, died Thursday, September 5, 2002, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn LaBruce Waldheim, and five children.
Memorial services will be Monday, September 9, 2002, at 6 o'clock in the evening at the Pawley's Island Chapel on Pawley's Island.

SABBACK, Fred
Fred Elias Sabback, 89, died Monday, September 3, 2002 at his residence. Mr. Sabback was born November 11, 1912, in Marion, Ohio, the son of Michael Elias and Amelia Sakas Sabback. He first opened his School of Music on Meeting Street 1943, and had been teaching since 1936. A virtuoso, Mr. Sabback played some 30 instruments, which he started learning at the age of eight. At one point, in order to work with the best teacher, he hitchhiked 100 miles round trip to his music lesson each week. He attended Ohio State University and Wittenberg Conservatory Music College. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and The Charleston Concert Association. His students attained much success and he constantly referred to them as "My teaching of my musical family." At his most ambitious period, around the age of 40, he had 13 schools in South Carolina and Georgia. His orchestra, under the direction of E.S. Thompson appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. He referred to his accomplishments and proclaimed with great satisfaction, "Music has given me a rich and full life." Besides his parents, Mr. Sabback was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine Thompson Sabback and his second wife, Elinor Caserta Sabback and one son, Gary Sabback, Sr. He is survived by two sons, Roger Sabback of Bullhead City, Arizona, Fred J. Sabback, Sr. of Cross City, Florida; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street, Charleston, SC. Interment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
