WILCHER, Cornelia
Cornelia Avant Wilcher, 72, a retired secretary, died Tuesday at the Colleton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at THE CHAPEL OF THE FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME, conducted by Rev. Posey Belcher. Interment will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday in Mitchell cemetery, Mitchell, Ga.
Mrs. Wilcher was born July 13, 1929 in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Cornelius McKay Avant and Marie Kinsey Avant. She was a member of Doctors Creek Baptist Church and a graduate of Spartanburg Junior College.
She is survived by a brother, Jack Avant of Walterboro and three nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin A. Wilcher of Mitchell, Ga.

Born February 28, 1917 in Bannockburn, Georgia, Mr. Hoss was the son of the late William Andrew Hoss, Jr. and Nita Mae Lane Hoss. Mr. Hoss was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he was a Sheet Metal Superintendent. He was a member of Cooper River Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army and served during WWII. Mr. Hoss enjoyed his retirement through his love of gardening, especially his Camellias.
Surviving Mr. Hoss are his daughter, Mary Ann Hoss and her husband, Lynwood Barker of Lynchburg, Va., his son, Walter L. 'Larry' Hoss, II and his wife, Jennifer Hoss of Kennesaw, Ga., a brother, Julian R. Hoss of Columbus, Ga. and five grandchildren.

DAVIS, Newman
Newman Eugene Davis, 76, of Whitesville Road, Moncks Corner, SC, a retired pipe fitter at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Wednesday in a North Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM this Friday morning, September 20, 2002 in the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. Interment will be in St. John's Baptist Church cemetery. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER.
Mr. Davis was born March 28, 1926 in Bethera, SC, a son of Hazel Davis and Margaret Wells Davis. He was both and Army and a Navy Veteran, serving in both WWII and Korea. Mr. Davis was a member of the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner, the American Legion, and the Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Brown Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Eugene and Laura W. Davis of Moncks Corner; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Sue D. Crawford of St. Stephen, Blanche D. and Wilder Langston, of Moncks Corner, and Janie D. Brown of Camden; a brother, Bobby Davis of Moncks Corner; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen and Mike Lukow of Moncks Corner and Congressman Henry E. and Billye Brown of Hanahan; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Davis and Robert Davis, both of Moncks Corner.
