Captain Hihn was born in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Hugo Edward Hihn and Lida L. Busustow Hihn. He was a retired Captain with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Charlestowne Long Rifle Club, VFW, National Rifle Association, Retired Officers Association, and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. Captain Hihn formerly served as Commanding Officer of the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Charleston.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston, S.C.; three daughters, Cynthia Warren of Wichita, Kans., Mary T. Hihn of Garden City, Ga., and Lida Ann Hihn of Charleston, S.C; four sons, Michael E. Hihn of Goose Creek, S.C., Gerald W. Hihn of Russellville, Mo., Douglas L. Hihn of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Donald A. Hihn of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Delores Studebaker of San Rafael, Calif., and Mary Mason of Glendora, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

HERBERT, Albert
Albert M. "Buck" Herbert, 74, of 4257 Faust Street, Bamberg, husband of Bernice Steedly Herbert, died September 18, 2002 at Edisto Convalescent Home in Orangeburg, SC.
Born September 27, 1927 in Orangeburg, he was the son of the late Walter C. Herbert and the late Mary Bennett Herbert.
He was a retired bookkeeper of thirty years, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bamberg, SC. He was a Mason, a US Army Veteran, and a loved tinkering with mechanical things.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2002, 3:00 PM in the COONER FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, BAmberg, SC, conducted by Rev. David Photo. Burial to follow in the Memorial Park cemetery, Orangeburg, SC.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Deborah Hendrix Fogle of Norway, SC; one son, Dennis Hendrix of Aiken, SC; two sisters of Orangeburg, SC, Rose Berry and Annette Culler; three grandsons, Drew, Ross, and Cole Fogle of Norway, SC; a special friend, James Evans of Orangeburg, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Charles Bianco, 76, of Kiawah Island, husband of Darlene Roberta Bedford Bianco, died Friday, September 13, 2002, at a local hospital. Mr. Bianco was a 1st generation Italian - American born Thursday, December 3, 1925 in Merced, California, the son of John Jeiovinni and Silvia Pariate Bianco. He was a retired Light Crew Foreman with Pacific Gas & Electricand a member of the Lions Club of Oakhurst and Selma, California. Mr. Bianco is survived by his loving and devoted wife Darlene; a daughter, Silvia Elizabeth Bianco of Hayward, CA; two sons, Michael and his wife Jill Bianco of Stafford, VA, Charles Edward and his wife Linda Bianco of Kiawah Island, SC; two grandchildren, Christopher and Stephanie Bianco of Kiawah Island, SC. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, John's Island. Rite of Committal will be held in Holy Cross cemetery, James Island.

WALTERBORO - Mr. William Edward "Ed" Smith, 78, of 1135 Winchester Road, Walterboro, died Thursday at the Saint Frances Hospital in Charleston.
Funeral services will be held at one o'clock Saturday in the Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel, with Rev. Dr. W. Steven Brown and Rev. Wayne Lucas officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in the Grace Advent Christian Church cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born February 3, 1924 in Pompano Beach, Florida and was a son of the late William and Mary Frances Smoak Smith. He was a retired customer service supervisor with Florida Power and Light Company. He served his country in the National Guard, was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #263 in Pompano Beach, Florida, was a member of the Unity #55 Masonic Lodge in Walterboro, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Herndon Smith; a son, Jack E. Smith of St. Augustine, Florida; a daughter, Frieda Stringfield of Walterboro; a brother, Broadus F. Smith of Bonifay, Florida; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
