Rebecca L. Wright
Brownie Scout

LYMAN - Rebecca Leigh Wright, 5-year-old daughter of James Douglas (Doug) and Sheila Weaver Wright, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg County, she attended Duncan First Baptist Child Development Program. She was a member of Brownie Troop 347 and an active member of Jackson Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her sister, Emily Lynne Wright of the home; her maternal grandmother, Myrtle Weaver of Union; her paternal grandparents, James and Susan Wright of Wellford; and her paternal great-grandparents, David and Marie Heffner of Rutherfordton, N.C.

Rebecca was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Ray Weaver. Visitation will be 7 until 9 tonight at the Wood Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Kelly and the Rev. James McMakin. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park. The family is at the home. The Wood Mortuary Inc. has charge of arrangements.

T. Stokes Adams Jr.
Retired Major with S.C. National Guard

T. Stokes Adams Jr., 79, husband of Amy Rogers Adams, 109 Frances Marion Road, Winnsboro, died Nov. 10, 2002, at Oakmont Nursing Home. A native of Union, Mr. Adams was born on Aug. 24, 1923, a son of the late Thomas Stokes and Elizabeth Duncan Adams.

He was first married to the late Caroline Fant Adams. He was a graduate of Union High School, and attended The Citadel and following his military service, he attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Adams was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Liberty Life Insurance Co. having worked for 33 years and retired as a major with the South Carolina National Guard for a total of 31 years military service.

Mr. Adams was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. He had been an active member, past president, and long time secretary of the Union Rotary Club and was named Paul Harris Fellow by the club. Mr. Adams was a member and served as secretary of the Union County Commission on Higher Education. He had been a director of the Union County Development Board and had served on the board and was a past-president of the Union County United Fund. Mr. Adams was a member and former Exhalted Ruler of the Union Elks Lodge. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Caroline Adams Barger of Union; a son, Thomas Stokes (Stokie) Adams III of Greenwood; two step-daughters and their husbands, Allene Jeter Sims and E.C. (Chip) Sims of Greenville and Susan Jeter Amick and Ken Amick of Leesville; a step-son, George M.R. Jeter of Winnsboro; two granddaughters, Caroline and Nathalie Barger of Union; and two step-grandchildren, Amy Sims Holcombe and William Shane McFadden.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity by Father Edward Gettys Meeks and Rev. Bundy Bynum. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Alexander Scott Fant, Stokes Adams VanPelt, John Roy Fant III, Murray Gibbs Fant Jr., Dr. James Wilkes Fant Jr., William Wells VanPelt Jr., Dr. John Alexander Fant and James Shepard Duncan VanPelt.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 320 S. Church St., Union, or to a charity of oneีs choice. The family is at the home of his daughter, Caroline A. Barger, 2654 Cross Keys Highway, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Rhonda Lynn Birch
Environmental services employee

SPARTANBURG - Rhonda Lynn Birch, 41, of Northside Apts., Howard St., Spartanburg, died at her residence Nov. 8, 2002 after a sudden illness. Ms. Birch was born in Union on July 8, 1961, a daughter of Harold and Marian Kirby Birch of Buffalo. She was a member of the Union Church of God. Ms. Birch was formerly employed with Wofford College, Converse College and USC-Spartanburg where she did environmental services.

Surviving in addition to her parents are two sons, Rev. Brandon Sinclair and Nathan Sinclair, both of Union; a sister, Louann McAbee of Union; two brothers, Darrell Birch of Jonesville and Ronald Birch of Piedmont; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Calvin Confrey of the home. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. this morning at the Union Church of God conducted by the Rev. Alton Stone, Rev. Brandon Sinclair and Rev. Milton Hannah. Entombment was in Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Active pallbearers were Jason McAbee, Wesley Birch, Todd Birch, Bill Mullen, Carlton Matthews and Rodney Birch. The family is at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Birch, 131 Dana Tara Lane, Buffalo, and received friends at the Union Church of God Sunday afternoon. Memorials may be made to the Rhonda Lynn Birch Fund, P.O. Box 293, Union, S.C., 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Mobley L. Jeter
Community leader

Mobley Lewis Jeter, 77, of Union, widower of Frances Bradley (Cootie) Jeter, died Nov. 8, 2002, at 5:24 a.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home. Mr. Jeter was born in Union on Aug. 18, 1925, a son of the late John Mobley Jeter and Louise McKissick Jeter. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as Deacon and as long as his health permitted, he was an active member of the Net Berry Sunday School Class. Mr. Jeter was a graduate of Union High School and attended Clemson College.

He was retired owner of Union Automotive Parts and founder of the Sealtest Dairy of Union. Mr. Jeter was a member of the Union Rotary club, Union Elks Club and had served on the Board of Directors of Union Federal Savings and Loans, now Provident Community Bank. He was a former Highway Commissioner for three county district and during his career, he served as personel director of Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant.

Mr. Jeter is survived by a daughter, Lillian Jeter of Melbourne, Australia; a son, Albert Lewis (Al) Jeter of Spartanburg; a sister, Louise Jeter O'Dell of Union and four granddaughters. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The following are asked to assemble at the cemetery Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.: Scott Fant, Jimbo Whitney, Gus Jeter, William Jeter, Sonny Southerland, John Baarcke, Ed Whitehead, Frank Bobo, Jay Allen, Robert Guess, David Russell, and Noris Fowler.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 2-3:45 P.M. and will be at the home of his sister, Mrs. Jack O'Dell, 701 E. Main St., Union. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Upstate Chapter, 555 Reidville Rd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29306. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James H. McCormick Sr.
U.S. Navy veteran

CHESTER - James Harold McCormick Sr., 72, of 746 Great Falls Highway, Chester, died Nov. 9, 2002, at his residence. Mr. McCormick was born in Great Falls on Nov. 2, 1930, a son of the late William Samuel McCormick and Mamie Albert McCormick. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. He was former owner and operator of The M&M Service Station and Jimmy's.

Surviving are four sons, James H. McCormick Jr., Donald W. McCormick and James C. McCormick all of Chester and Calvin Cope of Richburg; a daughter, Candy McCormick Baber of Chester; a brother, Wayne McCormick of York; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Barron Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Mark Chapman.

Burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family received friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Barron Funeral Home, Chester, has charge of arrangements.

Donald Bruce Owen
Vietnam veteran

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Donald Bruce Owen, 52, husband of Myrtis Gregory Owen, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Nov. 10, 2002, in the Embracing Hospice in Snellville, Ga. Mr. Owen was born in Union on Nov. 20, 1949, a son of the late Journie Harris Owen and Mattie Lou Stroud Owen. Mr. Owen was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Belinda Owen and Katina Owen both of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Kayla Blackwell of Joanna; a son, Greg Owen of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a brother, Douglas Owen of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Heather and Joshua Meadows.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Milton Stubblefield. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Todd Owen, Michael Owen, Brian Owen, Tony Lee, Mark Hancock and Kenny Nelson.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donald Bruce Owen Fund, PO Box 293, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Demetrius D. Harris

CARLISLE - Demetrius D. Harris, 14-month-old son of Tommy Bernard Harris and Tammie Michelle Pitt of 1094 Tucker Town Road, Carlisle, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, in Newberry County. The family is at the home of his grandmother, Mattie Harris, 145 TB Drive, Carlisle. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Whitney Funeral Home.

Carolina Milton
Retired home maker

Funeral services for Carolina Milton, 87, widow of Arthur Milton, will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Union Community Funeral Home by Rev. J. Archie Calhoun. Burial will be in Thompson Chapel Cemetery. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Milton died Nov. 8, 2002, at Oakmont Nursing Home. She was a member and choir member of New Hope Baptist Church, Buffalo, N.Y.

Survivors include a son, Lewis Walker; a nephew, Leroy Walker of Union and a sister, Alice Dickson of Atlanta, Ga. The family is at the home of her nephew, Leroy Walker at 616 Lakeview Heights. Public viewing will be at the funeral home today until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Union Community Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Sandra K. Jenkins
Baptist

Sandra Kent Jenkins, 64, wife of Lester A. Jenkins of 702 Arthur Boulevard, died Nov. 11, 2002, at 10:02 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Jenkins was born in Union on Jan. 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Leroy and Hattie Belle Helton Kent. She attended Hebron Baptist Church and was formerly employed as a sales clerk.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Lisa Bailey of Union; two sons, Chris Jenkins of Florida and Timmy Jenkins of the home; a brother, Charles Kent of Boiling Springs; seven grandchildren, Alexandria Jenkins reared in the home, Daniel Bailey, Lacey Bailey, Michael Jenkins, Andrea Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins and Thomas Klusker all of Union.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hebron Baptist Church by the Rev. David Toney. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7-9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 702 Arthur Blvd., Union. Memorials may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church, 143 Hebron Church Road, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
