Mr. Dean was born April 19, 1928 in Sycamore, Ga., the son of Edd L. Dean and Lucy Sheperd Dean. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ashburn, Ga. He was a retired DC 1 from the US Navy. He was a life member of the VFW Post 9142 and the American Legion Post 179.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston, SC, two daughters, Joyce D. Nordlund of Charleston, SC and Karen Hopkins of Hanahan, SC, one son, W. Dennis Dean of Arlington, VA, one brother, Frank Dean of Woodland, GA, two sisters, Daisy Joyner of Atlanta, GA, and Catherine Fletcher of Chula, GA, five grandchildren, Scott and Timothy Nordlund, Jennifer, Heather and Brandon Hopkins.

The relatives and friends of Eleanor G. HILL, Mary
BELTON - Mary Scott Hill, 94, of 304 Oak Hill Road, widow of William Fred Hill, died Monday, September 16, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late John Wilton and Sallie Wilson Scott. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Chandler Elementary School and Lickville Elementary School, a lunchroom attendant at Ellen Woodside Elementary School and West Dunklin Elementary School, and a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and William Durst of Charleston; and grandchildren, Will Durst, Thomas Durst, and Joseph Durst.
She was predeceased by a son, Larry Hill.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Oak Hill United Methodist Church by Rev. Alan Quarles and Rev. Tom Lewis. Burial will follow in Lickville Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Marjorie McKee, died September 16, 2002 at her daughter's Georgia home, after a long battle with ALS. Mrs. McKee was a New York native who moved to Mount Pleasant in 1990. Survivors include her children, Erin McKee, Brett McKee and Tara Coughlan, her grandchildren, Jack, Caitlin, McKenzie and Cameron McKee and James and Weejie Coughlan. There will be no local service. JONES, Charlotte
Graveside services for Mrs. Charlotte Chappell Jones, 96, of 805 Condon Drive, Charleston, S.C., who died March 31, 2002, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Magnolia cemetery, Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Jones as a native of Lykesland, S.C., and wife of the late Mr. Marion Lee Jones and mother of the late Susan C. Jones, Mrs. Jones was the great-great-granddaughter of Revolutionary War Colonel and founder of Columbia, S.C., Thomas Taylor. At age 17, she was the first young woman in South Carolina to pass the Red Cross Lifesaving Course; at 18, she was the only female qualified to give the Red Cross examination. She attended Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Va., and was a graduate of the La Crosse School of Physical Education, La Crosse, Wisc. Mrs. Jones served as director of Physical Education at the YWCA, Augusta, Ga., and also at the Episcopal Girls School, Columbia, Tenn. While living in Columbia, S.C., during World War II, she was active in the USO serving the soldiers at Fort Jackson and was the leader of the largest Girl Scout Troop in the Columbia area. In the 1940's she established a summer camp, Camp Tryit for girls on Edisto Beach. During the 1950's, Mrs. Jones had the first children's TV program, "Let's Play School" on station WJBF in Augusta, Ga., which aired for four years. She operated a kindergarten in Beaufort, S.C., and began the first kindergarten on Hilton Head Island which was the forerunner of Sea Pines Academy, then she taught at the Montessori Kindergarten after which she returned to teaching physical education at Sea Pines Academy. She and her late husband were affectionately known on Hilton Head Island as the "Mayors of Folly Field." Mrs. Jones was a member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and the Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Marion L. Jones, Jr., Edgefield, S.C., and Labon Chappell Jones, Florence, S.C.; a daughter, Patricia J. Hay, Charleston, S.C.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the graveside following the services. The family will be at the residence of Mr. Marion L. Jones, 62 Republican Road, Edgefield, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

RIDGELAND, S.C. - Patricia Strickland Padgett, 70, of Ridgeland, S.C., wife of Willie Quincy Padgett died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at her residence after a long illness. She was born on August 27, 1931 in Tillman, S.C. a daughter of the late Marion McKay Strickland and Bessie Strickland. She was a charter member of the original Board of Directors of Thomas Heyward Academy, office manager for Dr. John O. Ryan for 30 years before retiring, and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Quincy Padgett of Ridgeland, S.C.; three daughters, Sandra P. Kay of Greer, S.C., Bonnie P. Gainey of Hartsville, S.C., and Willa P. Sewell of Ridgeland, S.C.; three sisters, Gladys S. Carter of Beaufort, S.C., Genevieve S. Brown of Beaufort, S.C., and Ernestine S. Woods of Charleston, S.C.; 6 grandchildren.
