PENNINGTON, Darel
Darel Ballard "Uncle Buck" Pennington, 59, of Moncks Corner, husband of Jean Pennington, died Monday morning at his residence.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 o'clock, Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Plantation Memorial Gardens with Marine Corps Honors and Masonic Rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Dorchester Shrine Club, 2150 Old Beech Hill Road, Ridgeville, SC 29472 or Berkeley Shrine Club, Thornley Forest, Moncks Corner, S.C. 29461.
Mr. Pennington was born on December 31, 1942, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, the son of the late Ersa Pennington and Arnette Stewart Pennington. He attended Pennington High School in Virginia. Mr. Pennington was honored with an appointment as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Omar Temple, Dorchester Lodge #369, Dorchester Shrine Club, Berkeley Shrine Club, Hillbilly Clan #82 Outhouse One, York Rite, Scottish Rite. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam War. He was retired from J.W. Aluminum. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are, his wife of Moncks Corner; daughter, Shelia Martin and her husband Jeff Martin of Moncks Corner, son, Damon Pennington and his wife Delaina Pennington of Moncks Corner; four grandsons, Brent Pennington, Bradley Martin, Corey Martin and Kent Pennington all of Moncks Corner; two sisters, Guila Jones of Clinton, North Carolina, Von Fields of Clinton, North Carolina.

Mrs. Rikard was born in Leesville, SC, April 11, 1921, the daughter of Collie J. Monts and Roan Debby Swygert Monts. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Batesburg, SC. She was a member of Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are one son, Mare M. Rikard of Charleston, SC; three daughters: Diane Hall and Debbie R. Warren, both of Birmingham, AL and Stephanie S. Yates of Lagrange, GA, fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rikard was preceded in death by two sons, Winston Earl Rikard and R. Wayne Rikard.

Ruby Lee Thomas Gaskins, 62, of Bethera, S.C., a former lunchroom attendant at Macedonia High School, died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2002, in the Cordesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will be in Berea Untied Methodist Church cemetery, Bethera. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Gaskins was born December 6, 1939, in Moncks Corner, S.C., a daughter of John Wright and Hallie Thomas Murphy. She was a member of Berea United Methodist Church and attended Coredesville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are, her husband, Clyde Gaskins; a daughter, Stephanie G. Nesbitt of Bethera; two sons, Wallace Gaskins of Bethera and Perry C. Gaskins of Moncks Corner; two sisters, Hazel Sweatman of Moncks Corner and Mary Howard of Georgetown; and three grandchildren, Corey Gaskins, Logan Nesbitt and Aaron Nesbitt.
BUCKLES, JR., Ernest
KINGSTREE - Ernest Edward Buckles, Jr., 77, died Tuesday in a Florence hospital.
Mr. Buckles was born in Williamsburg Co., a son of the late Ozellia Baylor Buckles and Ernest E. Buckles, Sr. He was a graduate of Williamsburg Co. schools and served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. Mr. Buckles retired as Line Crew Foreman for Santee Electric Co-op and was a member and former Deacon of Midway Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46, A.F.M., the American Legion and the V.F.W.
Surviving, his wife, Mrs. Lena Mae Duke Buckles of Kingstree; two sons, Michael Edward Buckles of Surfside Beach and Duke LaFattee Buckles of Kingstree; one daughter, Reta B. (Steve) McCrackin of Florence; two grandchildren, Shannan McCrackin and Blane McCrackin, both of Florence; three brothers, Pete Buckles and Jack Buckles, both of Columbia and Carlton (Dickie) Buckles of Hartsville; two sisters, Louise B. Huffstetler of Gaffney and Joyce B. McLaughlin of Charleston. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, in the WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, with the Rev. Dr. Rodney Foster and Rev. L.J. SUMMERTON, SC - Mrs. Carol Suzanne Starnes Thames, 32, of 1088 Edisto Dr., Summerton, SC died Monday, November 25, 2002 in a Columbia hospital from injuries sustained in a horse riding accident.
The funeral will be 11 AM Friday, November 29, 2002 in the chapel of AVINGER FUNERAL HOME OF HOLLY HILL, SC with Rev. Terry Poston and Rev. Harold Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Gooch family cemetery.
Mrs. Thames was born in Lancaster County a daughter of Carol Gooch Hills and the late Robert L. Starnes, Jr. She attended Clarendon Hall Academy and Santee Christian School. She was a member of Lake Marion Christian Fellowship.
