YEAGER, William
William Edgar Yeager, 82, of Summerville, husband of Bernice Bugg Yeager, died Friday, November 22, 2002 in a local hospital.
Mr. Yeager was born on August 7, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Edgar Kincaid Yeager and Phyllis Marie Fisher Yeager. He was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and attended Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was a retired Soil Conservation Technician.
Surviving are: a son, Arch Yeaher and his wife Sharon of Summerville, SC; daughter, Ann E. Young of Spartanburg, SC; 3 grandsons and 2 great-grandsons; a brother, Robert M. Yeager of Columbus, OH; a sister, Phyllis Ann Young of Columbus, OH.

LONG, Margaret
Margaret B. Long, 77, of Summerville, wife of Boyd A. Long, died Friday in Kingsland, GA.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 25, 2002 at 2 PM at North Charleston Church of Christ, 6337 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. Entombment will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by James A. Dyal Funeral Home of Summerville.
Mrs. Long was born September 30, 1925 in Newberry, SC, a daughter of the late Clarence William Bledsoe and Lizzie Proctor Bledsoe.
She was a graduate of Newberry High School and attended Newberry College. She was a member and past Treasurer of Exxon Annuitants Club, and was former owner-manager of Marble Court Home Park. She was a member of North Charleston Church of Christ.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be missed by many who loved her!
Surviving are: husband, Boyd Alton Long of Summerville; son, Kenneth W. Long and his wife, Kathleen of Kingsland, GA; grandchildren, Keith, Kate and Kevin Long, all of Kingsland, GA.

TAYLOR, Bobby
Bobby "Bob" Gene Taylor, age 63, of North Charleston, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at 8 p.m., at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home prior to the memorial service. Private family burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Park.
Born in Thomasville, Ga., he was a son of the late Ellis and Alma Trynes Taylor, Mr. Taylor was retired from the United States Navy, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Carolina Masonic Lodge of Hanahan, a Shriner, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include, two daughters, Amanda Ray Taylor Davis of North Charleston, Teresa Taylor Mimms and her husband Jeff of Hanahan, three brothers, Vincent and Lillian Taylor of Houston, Texas, Horace and Sharon Taylor and Gary and Carol Taylor both of Thomasville, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Melva Miller of North Charleston; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frank and Betty Perry of North Charleston; a special nephew Danny and Amy Perry of North Charleston and four grandchildren, Taylor, Devon, Tray, and William.
Mr. Taylor was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Miller Taylor.

LAFLEN, Gerald
Lieutenant Commander Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Laflen (Ret. USN), 54, of Summerville, husband of Kate Laflen, died Wednesday evening, November 20, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, November 25, 2002, at 7:30 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. A private family scattering at sea will be held later.
The family will receive friends from 6 o'clock until the hour of service.

Mr. Laflen was born August 6, 1948, in Danville, Ill., the son of Patricia Alkire Brinneman of North Fort Myers, Florida, and the late Harold Raymond Laflen. He was a graduate of Potomac High School in Potomac, Ill., and Purdue University with a degree in Engineering. He proudly served 22 years in the United States Navy, first as an Air Traffic Controller and later as a Cryptologist Officer. After retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in April 1990, Jerry worked as a Program Manager for SPAWAR on government contracts and currently was employed by WareOnEarth Communications, Inc.
Survivors are, his wife of Summerville; his mother of North Fort Myers, Fla.; one son, Scott Laflen of Sterling, Va.; two sisters, Jenny Cox of Bonita Springs, Fla., Melody Finley of Brownsburg, Ind.

PADGETT, JR., Vernon
RUFFIN - Vernon Rudolph Padgett, Jr., 50, of 987 Priester Road, died Saturday, November 23, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday, November 25, 2002, in the Carter's Ford Baptist Church with the Reverend Barry Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Padgett was born January 9, 1952, in Colleton County and was a son of Virginia Henley Padgett and the late Vernon Rudolph Padgett, Sr. He was a former saw operator helper for International Paper in Hampton. He was a 1971 graduate of the Ruffin High School, and was a lifetime member of Carter's Ford Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the Median Adult Sunday School Class. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of Smoaks are: his wife of 30 years, Edrie Cook Padgett; his daughter, Joy Arlene Padgett of Aiken; two sisters, Delores P. Crosby and her husband Thomas of Walterboro, and Linda P. Gallaher of Franklin, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his only son, Gregory Scott Padgett.

Born in Harlan, Kentucky on January 22, 1925, a daughter of the late Monroe Shoemaker and Bessie Gadd Shoemaker.
He was educated in schools of Kentucky. She was a homemaker and a member of The First Baptist Church of Jedburg.

BARTH, Herbert
Herbert Barth, 91, of Charleston, husband of Emily Mae Weggler Barth, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002 in Charleston. Mr. Barth was born Sunday, January 8, 1911 in New York City, the son of Eugene Casper and Amelia Schnieder Barth. He honorably served our country in the US Army during World War II in which he received two Bronze Stars and was a retired Postal Clerk with the United States Postal Service. Mr. Barth loved music, fishing, chocolates and his family. He is survived by his loving wife, a daughter, Janice Marie and her husband Doug Kennedy of Snohomish, WA and a son, Douglas H. and his wife Coleen Barth of Charleston, also the Weggler, Candidus and Kress families.
