MALANOS, Emmanuel
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel George Melanos are invited to attend the funeral service of the former Tuesday, November 19, 2002 in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity at 11:00 o’clock. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403.

GREEN, Francis
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of Sunday, November 17, 2002, Mr. Francis Bernard Green. Residence, Washington, D.C., formerly of Charleston, S.C. He is the beloved brother of Mrs. Rosalee McCormick, George Green (Ruth), Nathaniel "Tanny" Green (Debra Angel), Joseph Green (Ella), the late Benjamin Green, the late Robert Green (Althia) and the late Carnell Green. PAUL, Dorothy
Dorothy Davis Paul of West Ashley, died Monday, November 18, 2002, 2002, at a local nursing home.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 21, 2002, 11 a.m., at Carolina Memorial Funeral home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston. Born in Walterboro, she was the daughter of the late William Davis and Mell Bertha Rickenbaker.
Mrs. Paul was a homemaker and a loving wife and sister. She was a member of Northbridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John L. Paul, of Charleston, a brother, Edward Hiers, of St. Augustine, Fla.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 20, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston. Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenburg Blvd., Charleston, S.C. 29407.

SIMMONS, Manning
Manning Herbert Simmons of Carson City, California, formerly of Charleston, S.C., died Thursday, November 14, 2002, in Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Long Beach, California. Home-going services will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1502 20th Street, Santa Monica, California. Burial to follow in Green Hill cemetery.
Manning was a 1962 graduate of Burke High School. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph T. Simmons, Sr., and brother, Clinton L. Simmons (Christine). Survivors are, his wife, Ruthie Rendleman, two daughters, Christine and Sharon, and seven grandchildren, beloved mother, Pearl G. Simmons, beloved brother of Joseph, Jr. (Lizzie), Melvin (Flo), Harvey (Alma), Robert (Louise), Clifford (Francis), and beloved sister of Linda President (Roosevelt) and J. Elaine Singleton; beloved aunts, Lula Davis of Philadelphia, Pa.; Oretha McKnight of Allendale, S.C.; Lucinda (Leroy) Hayes and Evelyn (Clarence) Jackson of Baltimore, Md.; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. FLETCHER, Chrystene
Chrystene Fletcher, 80, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and formerly of Oyster Bay, New York died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Fletcher was born November 1, 1922 in Chester, Georgia, daughter of the late Dock Bass and the late Ilar Mae Watson. Surviving Mrs. Fletcher are three daughters, JoAnn Gandolfo of Mount Pleasant, Paula Genovese of Mount Pleasant, and Kelly Dennis, of Atlanta, GA; one grandchild, Liam Patrick Dennis, a sister, Mrs. Lillian Hurski of Smithtown, New York and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Fletcher and a brother, Robert.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 o’clock with funeral services to follow in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Inurnment will be at St. John’s cemetery, Cold Spring Harbor, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405. HIERS, Mary
WALTERBORO - Mary Esther Hazel Hiers, 94, widow of Jack Hiers, died Sunday at Colleton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Steve Brown. Interment will be in Brunson cemetery, directed by the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Hiers was born August 18, 1908 in Allendale County, a daughter of the late William Michael Hazel and Mary Hewlett Hazel. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sisters Mary and Martha Sunday School Class and the Norma Nichols Prayer Group. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Mayfield Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended Lander College and was a retired Kindergarten teacher at John C. Calhoun Academy and had worked in the nursery at Hampton General Hospital and in respiratory therapy at Colleton County Hospital.
Surviving are: a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Libba) Flowers and Dr. Joseph F. Flowers of Walterboro; a sister, Jo Graham of Clayton, GA; three grandchildren, Cal and Prissy Griffin, Stephany and Chris Muth and Jill and Tracy Burttram, 4 step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 650, Walterboro, SC 29488.

WIGGINS, Hattie
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Hattie "Dodie" Wiggins, of Bonneau, SC, widow of James T. Wiggins and Andy Waters, are invited to attend her memorial service this Tuesday evening in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.

GOUSBY, John
CROSS, SC - Mr. John P. Gousby, 70, of 7122 Gousby Lane, Cross, SC, died November 14, 2002 at Trident Medical Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 19, 2PM at Poplar Hill Christian Church, Cross, SC. Rev. Isaac J. Gourdine, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.
Mr. Gousby, the son of the late J.D. Gousby and the late Margert S. Gousby, was born December 13, 1931 in Dorchester County.
Surviving are: two brothers, Mr. Larry (Vera) Gousby of Bronx, NY, Harold Gousby of Washington, DC; ten stepchildren: Arabell (William) Gaddist, and Albert Ravenell, Jr., both of Cross, SC, Shirley Y. (Clarence) Spann of Brooklyn, NY, Sylviar (Ivory) Goodwine of Ridgeville, SC, Allen (Margie) Ravenell, Generis R. (Larry) Dennis, Linda Mae Ravenell, all of Cross, SC, Mae Francis (Rev. Marvin) Taylor of Huger, SC, Naomi (Tim) Sellers and Norman J. Martin, both of Monroe, LA; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, thirty-four grands, thirty-five great-grands.

SUCKOW, Nell
Nell "Dory" Dorette Suckow, 64, widow of Francis A. Suckow of Ladson, SC, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at a local hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta, GA, Wednesday afternoon, November 20, 2002 at 2 o'clock. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home, Summerville, SC this Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.
Mrs. Suckow was born on September 2, 1938 in Richmond County, Georgia, a daughter of Bernice Thomas Collins and Yannise Airly Creech Collins. She was retired from Charleston County School District and was very active with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she was past department President. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include her two daughters, Georgia Haselden of Summerville and Charlene Whittle of Jackson, SC; brother, Cranston Collins of Georgia; and five grandchildren: Danielle Whittle and Devin Whittle, both of Jackson, SC, Ariel Haselden, Savannah Haselden and Drayton Haselden, all of Summerville.

PROSSER, Wilber
ANDREWS - Wilber Deleon Prosser, 77, widower of Mittie Cooper Prosser, died Monday, November 18, 2002 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at the Spring Gully Baptist Church near Andrews. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by ANDREWS CHAPEL OF MCKENZIE FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Prosser was born December 12, 1924 in Florence County, a son of Quincy D. Prosser and Hattie Cooper Prosser. He was educated in Florence County; a Navy veteran of WWII; the owner of Pee Dee Roofing Co.; a member of Andrews Chapter of the Lions Club, American Legion Post 69, and a member of the Spring Gully Baptist Church.
Surviving are: two brothers, Charles O. Prosser and Edward L. Prosser, both of Andrews; three sisters: Helen P. Cox, Ruby P. Richardson, and Barbara P. Wheeler, all of Andrews; a very special and loving friend, Winnona A. Avant of Andrews.
Visitation will be 7 - 9 PM Tuesday evening, November 19, 2002, at the ANDREWS CHAPEL OF MCKENZIE FUNERAL HOME.

BESTUL, Manton
Manton Gordon Bestul, 82, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2002 in Greenville, SC. Born in Kenyon, MN on October 2, 1920, he was the son of Sophie and Ingvald Bestul. Gordon was a decorated retired Commander in the United States Navy, having served in WWII and the Korean War. He was a graduate of St. Olaf University in St. Cloud, MN and was retired from the Polychemical Division of Westvaco. He is survived by two daughters; Sharon (Bruce) Nelker of Greenville, SC & Barbara (Michael) Snipes of Columbia, SC. Also included are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Bestul is predeceased by his wife, Rosalie Adams Bestul and his grandson, Jason Everett Ward. Funeral Service was on Sunday at 2 PM, November 17, 2002 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. RICHARDSON, Mary
Mary Elizabeth Hanna (nee) Richardson, 83, of Ladson, SC passed away November 16, 2002 at a local hospital. She is the widow of Cyril R. Hanna. Born on December 29, 1918 in Johnsonville, SC to the late Andrew and Azilee Richardson. Survivors include a brother, J.B. Richardson of Johnsonville, SC; children, Betty Lynn Rodgers of Kingstree, SC, Jearold W. Hanna of Anchorage, AK, C.R. Hanna of St. Helena Island, SC, Dimples Hanna of Lake City, SC, Bobby M. (Duffie) Hanna of Ladson, SC, and Jimmie Hanna of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hanna was a member of North Trident Baptist Church. Memorial service to be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at North Trident Baptist Church, 9939 Jamison Road, Summerville, SC 29485. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church in her honor. Arrangements handled by CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, North Charleston, SC.

FOSSEN, David
David Van Fossen, 77, formerly of Callahan, Fla., died on Monday, November 18, 2002, at his home.
After Mr. Van Fossen retired from the Air Force as a welder he went to work for the Department of Navy as a civil service welder. He was a member of Thomas Creek Baptist Church in Callahan, Fla.
He is survived by a son, Terry Lynn Van Fossen of Callahan, Fla.; two daughters, Deanna Kay Burbulak of Watertown, N.Y., and Patricia Ann Sparks of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Jim Van Fossen of Richmond and Donald Van Fossen of Ohio; a sister, Pat Toney of Ohio; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances E. Van Fossen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2002, at FOUND AND SONS FUNERAL CHAPEL OF FREDERICKSBURG at 7 p.m. with Mike Baker officiating. Inurnment will take place in Bremen Family cemetery in Grandview, Ohio, at a later date.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave. #210, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
