SCHOLZ, Anna
Anna Mayer Scholz, 93, of Summerville, wife of Peter S. Scholz, died Wednesday evening in a Summerville hospital.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at 2 o'clock in St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, Summerville. Entombment will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.
Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.
Mrs. Scholz was born on July 11, 1909 in Yugoslavia, a daughter of the late John Mayer and Anna Getz Mayer. She was a homemaker and she attended St. John the Beloved Catholic Church.
Surviving are: her husband, Peter S. Scholz of Summerville; a son, Peter M. Scholz and his wife Mary of Summerville; 2 grandsons, John Scholz of Summerville and Steven Scholz of West Ashley; 2 great-grandsons, Michael & Andrew Scholz of Summerville.

GIDDENS, Alice
Mrs. Alice Marie Giddens, 89, of Ravenel, SC, died November 13, 2002 at her residence.
She was born July 7, 1913 in Polaski, Iowa. She moved from Lakeland, FL to Ravenel 4 months ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God and enjoyed cross-stitching. She graduated from Lakeland High Adult Education Center with a high school diploma at age 57.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice of Charleston, 3 South Park Circle, Suite 172, Charleston, SC 29407.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Malcolm Giddens and a son, Lawrence Roger Giddens.
Surviving are, a daughter, Mary Jean Byrd of Ravenel, SC; a brother, Rev. John W. Greenamyre of Alpharetta, GA; two sisters, Lucille Varnes of Lakeland, FL and Eunice Curk of Plant City, FL; four grandchildren, Rob Byrd, Lynn McClure, Patti Giddens and Larry Giddens; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be November 16, 2002 from 1 to 2 PM at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel, Lakeland, FL. Funeral services will be November 16, 2002 at 2 PM in LAKELAND FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, LAKELAND, FLORIDA.

HAMPTON - The relatives and friends of Mrs. Marjorie Sanders Peeples, widow of Mr. Earl Freeman Peeples, are invited to attend her memorial service, 2:00 PM Saturday, in the Hampton United Methodist Church. Interment, directed by THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, will follow in the Hampton cemetery.

DAVIS, Adelaide
Entered into eternal rest on November 14, 2002, Adelaide Lucille Davis, wife of Lavance T. Davis. Residence, Johns Island, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Davis are invited to attend the funeral service of the latter in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2002 at 1 o'clock. Mrs. Davis was born June 28, 1918 in Rush, Kentucky, the daughter of Daniel I. Hogan and Florence Banfield Hogan. Mrs. Davis was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Prior to moving to Charleston she taught in a one room school house in Boyd County, KY. She was a Business Administrator at Roper Hospital. She was a graduate of Pheiffer College and Moorehead University. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and the Good Friends Club SCE&G.
She is survived by her husband of Johns Island, SC; one son, D. Nathan Davis of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Enola Davis Bluemel of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, Inc., 3896 Leeds Avenue, Charleston, SC. 29405-7443.

GREEN, Ernestine
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Ernestine Green are invited to attend her funeral service, 2 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2002, in Allen AME Church, Ethel P.O. Road (Petersfield). Rev. Myra D. Meggett is the pastor. Interment will follow at Wilson cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Green will be Friday, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Chapel and 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. The family hour will begin at 7 p.m.
She is survived by her daughters and sons, Annalee Moore, Isaac Green, Edward Mackey (Pamela), Sadie Brown (Jackie Bryant), Rosemary Jenkins (Nathaniel), Roosevelt Green (Shelia), Eddie Green (Alice), and John Green (Yolanda); 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dea. Larton Mackey, Isaac Mackey and Ethel McFadden (Woodrow); nieces, nephews, God children, Rosa Lee Smalls, Ida Mae Harrison and Ernestine Brown; cousins and friends. THROWER, Eleanor
Frances Eleanor Browning Thrower, 78, of Ridgeville, S.C., widow of William T. Thrower, Sr., died Thursday, November 14, 2002, in Summerville, S.C.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2002, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in Bonnie Rest cemetery. Friends may call this Friday evening at Parks Funeral Home, Summerville, S.C., from 6 to 9 o'clock or at the church one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 193, Ridgeville, S.C. 29472. Reverend James M. Cubie will be the officiating minister. Pallbearers will be John Browning, Robin Browning, William Browning, Eddie Browning, Ned Pfaehler and William Rigney.
Mrs. Thrower was born December 31, 1923, in Ridgeville, S.C., a daughter of Walker Bowman Browning and Florence Drummond Browning. Mrs. Thrower graduated from Ridgeville High School, attended Columbia College, was a store clerk for Carter's Fast Stop in Ridgeville, and a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon T. Hughes of Dorchester, S.C.; three sons, William T. Thrower, Jr., of Jacksonville, Fla., David W. Thrower of Manchaca, Texas, Barry B. Thrower of Johns Island, S.C.; one brother, John H. Browning of Ridgeville, S.C.; five grandchildren, William Thrower, Louise Standard both of Texas, Davis Hughes, Jr., of Mississippi, Dana Rigney of Conway, S.C., and Melissa Thrower of Charleston, S.C., and six great-grandchildren.

COTTON, Mary
Georgetown - Mary Nelson Cotton, 93, died Thursday, November 14, 2002, at The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg.
Mrs. Cotton was born in Careyville, Fla., a daughter of the late Louis Melvin Nelson and Daisy Hubbard Nelson of Sherman, Fla. She received a teacher’s certificate from Florida State College for Women and taught in several Florida schools prior to her marriage. She and her family moved to Georgetown in 1937, where her late husband, Harry Hill Cotton, was employed by the newly opened International Paper Co.
Mrs. Cotton was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She was president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service (now United Methodist Women) for many years, holding district and statewide offices. She taught the Susanna Wesley Class of the church for over forty years. She also served as a docent at the historic Kaminski House. During her time at The Methodist Oaks, she sang in the choir, worked in the library and served at the reception desk.
Surviving are: a daughter, Lucy Cotton Rabb and her husband John Woodson Rabb of Camden; a son, Harry Hill Cotton, Jr. and his wife Patricia Rich Cotton of Lexington; a sister, Ellie Ruth Nelson Porter of Williston, Fla.; two granddaughters, Sarah Rabb Taylor and her husband Derrick of Lexington and Julie Cotton McKendrick and her husband Bob of Roswell, Ga.; two grandsons, John Woodson Rabb, Jr. and his wife Scott of Camden and David Louis Cotton of Montgomery, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren, Caroline Taylor of Lexington, Michael Rabb of Camden, and Krista and Joshua Caudill of Roswell, Ga.
Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2002, at two o’clock in Elmwood cemetery. Officiating will be The Rev. H. John Cribb, Jr. Burial will follow under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to The Methodist Oaks, PO Drawer 327, Orangeburg, S.C. 29116, or to a charity of one’s choice.

GEDDINGS, Emma
Mrs. Emma Dell Knight Geddings, 77, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, November 8, 2002, at her home peacefully in her sleep.
Born in Harleyville, S.C., March 27, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Julie Agnes Infinger and James Bowman Knight.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank J. Geddings. Mrs. Geddings was a lifelong Carolinian, fourth generation Christian Church Disciple, longtime employee of Central Motor Lines, and then Henkel Corporation, owner of Coachman Cleaners.
Mrs. Geddings was past president of Charlotte Women's Traffic Club; past president of the River Hills Lioness Club, Lake Wylie, S.C.; past president of Eastway Christian Church, Charlotte; past Board Chairman First Christian Church, Charlotte; past Board Chairman Derita Chapter No. 326, Order of the Eastern Star past Chaplain, she was the recipient of the Gold Rose award from Central Charlotte Assn. for outstanding career woman in transportation (1968).
First Christian Church conferred upon Mrs. Geddings the title of Trustee Emeritus for her many years of faithful service.
She is survived by her sister, Minnie Ruth Warren of Charleston, S.C., and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 17, at 3 p.m., at the First Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Geddings Endowment Fund of the First Christian Church, 1200 East Blvd., Charlotte, N.C., 28203, or to the Humane Society of Charlotte, P.O. Box 221028, Charlotte, N.C. 28222.

DOWD, John
John Marshall Dowd, 62, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Montclair, New Jersey, died on November 11, 2002. Born in New York on December 28, 1939, he was the son of the late John M. Dowd and Loretto Van Benthuysen Dowd. Mr. Dowd, a graduate of Fairfield University of Connecticut, served as Executive Vice President of American Express and MasterCard International. During his career, he worked for many years in New York City. While directing the European Credit Card Division for American Express, he lived in England in the late 1960's and 1970's. He was a member of Snee Farm Country Club, Montclair Golf Club in New Jersey, and Sunningdale Golf Club in England.
Mr. Dowd is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan Bromley Dowd, daughter Elizabeth Dowd Sauntry of Savannah, son John M. Dowd of New Jersey, and daughter, Patricia Dowd Walker of Mt. Pleasant; his sisters, Anne Dowd Picken of New York, Patricia Dowd Snover of New York, and his brother Dennis B. Dowd of Florida. He was preceded in death by his sister Jacqueline Dowd Costello of New York. Also surviving are his grandchildren, John, George, Lucy, and Harry Walker and Samantha Dowd.
Mr. Dowd was a devout Catholic and a member of Stella Maris Church on Sullivan's Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Saturday, November 16, at Stella Maris Church. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, November 15, at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be sent to the Life Center and School Addition at Christ Our King - Stella Maris, 1183 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, or the MUSC Head and Neck Tumor Program (c/o Terry Day, M.D.) and/or the MUSC Department of NeuroSurgery (c/o Sunil Patel, M.D.)

MIMS, Beatrice
HARLEYVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Beatrice P. Mims, 83 of 1972 First Bend Road, Harleyville died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 in a Summerville hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2 p.m. in Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Lee and Pastor Scott Mims officiating with burial to follow in church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George. Pallbearers will be Phil Bishop, Jerry Bishop, Jimmy Mizell, Craig Bishop, Clay Mims, Hugh E. Long.
Mrs. Mims was born January 18, 1919 in Harleyville a daughter of the late William Jacob Parker and Minnie Elizabeth Hilton Parker. She was the widow of Sidney Wells Mims, Jr. and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Surviving: 2 sons, Stephen Leon (Pat) Mims, Rockingham, NC, and Sidney Wells (Claudia) Mims, III, Harleyville, Brother, Henry Mizell, a sister, Doreta (Richard) Bishop, both of Harleyville.6 grandchildren; Scott Mims, Roanoke, VA, Charlotte Carter, Rockingham, NC, Nicole Wills, Lexington, KY, Jenny Mullican, and Jeromy Mims, Harleyville, Jill Mims, Chattanooga, TN, 9 great-grandchildren, James Mims, Jackson Carter, Noah Wills, Jaime Wills, Miranda Mims, Jason Mims, Joshua Mims, Sidney Mullican, and Christopher Mullican. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 987 First Bend Road, Harleyville, SC 29448.
