LAWHON, J. Riley
James Riley Lawhon, age 92, born on September 2, 1910 of North Charleston entered into eternal rest on November 9, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Joyce Lawhon on October 1, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Delores Webb and husband Philip of Atlanta, GA and daughter Ann Batey of Bonneau, SC; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
During World War II in the Pacific where he acquired the name Doc . His final Navy tour was in Charleston where he retired in 1957 as a Chief Warrant Officer with thirty years of service. Several weeks after retiring from the Navy he went to work for the South Carolina State Ports Authority where he retired in 1975 as Chief of Security. He was an active member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge No. 332 for 32 years, an active member of the Shriners for over 50 years and played in the Shriners band. He was also member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Past Commander of Post #10. He was a member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. One of his favorite hobbies was raising camellias. He and his wife belonged to the local Camellia Society and have won over 200 awards for their flowers.
Funeral services will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPELon Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 2:00 o’clock. Reverend Dr. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr’s Greenridge Road Chapel on Wednesday evening, November 13, 2002 between 6:00 and 8:00 o’clock. Entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 10, 2002, Effie Polemis Papageorge, widow of George Papageorge. She died at her residence in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Papageorge was born July 8, 1905 in Istanbul, Turkey, the daughter of Michal Polemis and Efrosini Triantafilithou Polemis. She was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Ladies Philoptochos, Daughters of Penelope and a Red Cross Volunteer.
She is survived by one daughter: Anna P. Stamatiades of Charleston, SC; one son: John G. Papageorge of Fairfax, VA; one sister of Athens, Greece; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

REMSBURG, Anne
GARDEN CITY - Anne Dahlgren Remsburg, 38, died Monday, November 11, 2002 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 1:00 PM in First Scots Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Private burial will be at a later date.
She was born August 17, 1964 in Plattsburgh, New York, a daughter of Clark Latrobe Remsburg, Sr. and Joyce Anne Dahlgren Remsburg.
She was a surgical technician with Southern Regional Hospital in Jonesboro, Georgia. She was a 1983 graduate of Middleton High School in Charleston and attended the University of South Carolina and the University of Tennessee. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving are: her parents of Charleston; one brother, Clark L. Remsburg, Jr. of Taylors; one sister, Melissa R. King of Germantown, Maryland and five nieces and nephews.
