Carlotta Johnson Hyers the widow of Samuel Kent Hyers, died on November 5, 2002, in Charleston, S.C. The funeral will be on Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 2 p.m., in Old Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, 2604 Ashley River Road, Charleston, S.C. 29407. Burial, directed by MCALISTER-SMITH, will be in Bethany cemetery in Charleston.
Mrs. Hyers was the daughter of John Archibald Johnson and Emma-Elizabeth Chinnis Johnson. She studied under Mrs. Fannie B. Henderson, Mrs. Irene Dawson Shippey, and Miss Elizabeth Grimball.
She was a member of Old Saint Andrews Episcopal Church. She was also a charter member and Past President of West Ashley Business and Professional Women; Past President of the Railroad Auxiliary of Conductors and Trainmen; past President of the Pilot Club of Charleston; past Matron and Secretary Emeritus of Charleston Chapter No. 56, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hyers was a member of the Charleston Symphony League, the South Carolina Historical Society, and the Metropolitan Opera Association.
Survivors are her son, Kemper Kent Hyers, his wife, Courtney George Hyers, of Richmond, Virginia, her grandsons, Kemper Kent Johnson Hyers, William Martin Borden Hyers, and his wife, Andrea Gentl Hyers, and Samuel Thomas Campbell Hyers, all of New York City, and two great-grandchildren, Tallula Lucerne Gentl Hyers and Sam Elias Hyers.
There will be visitation at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Order of the Eastern Star Memorial Service beginning at 5:30 p.m., on Friday, November 8, 2002. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Old Saint Andrews Church or the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Boyette, 46, was born on July 2, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Harmon M. and Hattie Grohotolsky Lewis. She was a Catholic and a computer systems analyst. She graduated from R. B. Stall High School and received her Associates Degree from Trident Technical College and attended the University of South Carolina.
Surviving are her husband of Hanahan, SC and her brother, Robert Shane Lewis of North Charleston, SC.
PEEPLES, Marjorie
HAMPTON - Mrs. Marjorie Sanders Peeples, 83, of 107 Railroad Avenue E., widow of Earl Freeman Peeples, died Wednesday, November 6, in a Charleston hospital after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 16, at Hampton United Methodist Church with Rev. Carolyn Matthews officiating. Interment, directed by the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, will be in Hampton cemetery.
Mrs. Peeples was born in Darlington, S.C., on November 15, 1918, a daughter of the late Stoney and Nina Flowers Sanders of Allendale. She was a mother and homemaker in Hampton, S.C. She was the former co-owner of Peeples Funeral Home, and after the death of her husband, Mrs. Peeples served as President of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home for 12 years. Educated in Allendale, Mrs. Peeples lived in Hampton from the time of her marriage in 1936 until her death. She enjoyed her family and friends. She was a great bridge player and had a great sense of humor. She was a charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Hampton and was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Sandra Peeples Ferrill of Hampton and Nina Peeples Wright of Venice, Fla., granddaughters, Leigh Ann McMillan of Goose Creek, Shannon Ferrill of Hampton, grandsons, Bradley Wright and Andrew Wright of Memphis, Tenn., a great-granddaughter, Lynsey McMillan, a brother, Stoney Sanders, Jr., of Allendale, and a sister, Nina Sanders Speights of North Hollywood, Calif.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Ida Barnette Thomas, 81, of 511 Hodges, Orangeburg, died Monday, November 4, 2002, at her residence after a brief illness.
Graveside funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Providence United Methodist Church cemetery, at Providence, S.C. Dr. Terry Peele and Oscar Crosby officiating. THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., IN ORANGEBURG is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas was born October 5, 1921, in Russellville, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Elisha B. Barnette and the late Rosa Lee Russell Barnette. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She was retired from Providence Primary School. She was the widow of the late James M. Thomas.
Survivors include, one son, Mendel Thomas of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one daughter, Mrs. Tommy (Betty Ann) Ashley of Orangeburg; four granddaughters, Randi Ashley and Katherine Ashley both of Orangeburg, Brittaney Thomas of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Jaime Lynn Eisenhardt of Goldsboro, N.C.

WALTERBORO - Mrs. Carolyn Gilbert Wilson, 55, of 458 Carolina Circle, died Wednesday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. John Wertz, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Bremerton, Washington, a daughter of the late William H. Gilbert and Mary Elizabeth Wentworth Gilbert. She was a social worker with the Colleton County Department of Social Services. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, the New Church Building Committee, and served as Chairperson of the Worship and Music Committee. She was a member of the Walterboro Choral Booster Club and was active in assisting with various chorus programs. She moved to Charleston, S.C., in 1962.
Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Frank Hugh Wilson, Sr., a daughter, Marie Wilson of Walterboro, a son, F. Hugh Wilson, Jr., and his wife Kim of Sharon, S.C., brothers, William H. Gilbert of Pendleton, Marvin A. Gilbert of Charleston, sisters, Kathleen G. Hanna of James Island, and Sarah G. Stack of Eden, N.C., a special friend, Toni Gilbert of Charleston, four nieces, and five nephews.

Mrs. Smith was born August 30, 1923 in Conway, SC, the daughter of Sanford D. Cox and Belle Parker Cox. She graduated from Winthrop College and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She became a schoolteacher and taught in Horry and Georgetown Counties and retired from the Charleston County School District. She was a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church and the Church Librarian for thirty years.
She is survived by her husband of James Island, SC; one son: Thomas H. Smith, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one daughter: Belle Smith Edmond and her husband John of Liberty, SC; one brother: James E. Cox of Charlotte, NC; three grandsons: John O. Edmond, Jr. of Liberty, SC, Kevin Sanford Edmond of Liberty, SC and Charles Parker Smith of Mt. Pleasant, SC; She was predeceased by two brothers: Sanford D. Cox, Jr. and I. Benjamin Cox and one sister Hazel Cox Davis.
