Mrs. Tucker, 45, was born in Fayetteville, N.C., a daughter of James S. Vestal and Loretta Crowder Vestal. Mrs. Tucker was a homemaker and a Christian.
Surviving are her husband and daughter, Morghan Rae Tucker of Summerville, S.C.; a son, Cody D. Gigout of Mt. Bellview, Texas; her father of Panama City, Fla.; her mother, Loretta Crowder Vestal Stroble of Baytown, Texas; two brothers, Timothy Vestal of Panama City, Fla., James S. "Mickey" Vestal, Jr., of Panama City, Fla.; a half-brother, Cody Vestal of Panama City, Fla.; also her maternal and paternal grandmothers.
BROUTHERS, Gilda
Gilda Spalviero Brouthers passed away October 28, 2002 at a local hospital. Mrs. Brouthers was a retired Real Estate Broker, Independent Insurance Agent and Developer. During her lifetime, she served the community in many different ways. Mrs. Brouthers was the state president of the Women's Council of the National Association of Real Estate Boards 1958-1959, president of the Women's Council of Greater Charleston Board of Realtors 1957, Broker-in-charge with Brouthers Realty Co. 1957-1990, president of the Charleston Trident Chamber of Commerce Women's Division 1966-1970 and the president of the Altrusa Club 1966-1968, Chairwoman of Zonta International. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women and was recognized for her lifetime achievements in the International Biographies. Mrs. Brouthers was a lifetime member of the U.S. Navy League and hosted many functions for the Charleston Naval Base. She was an avid golfer, winning many tournaments throughout South Carolina, was a volunteer and contributor for many civic and private organizations and had many interests and hobbies, including gardening, entertaining and antiques. After her retirement, she loved preparing special treats and founded Charleston Chocolates. Mrs. Brouthers was born August 22, 1923 in Charleston, a daughter of Albert E. and Maria Mormile Spalviero. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School's class of 1941. Mrs. Brouthers is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Herman A. Spalviero, and a son, Richard H. Brouthers. She is survived by three daughters: Mary B. Sponar and Patricia B. Holliday of Mt. Pleasant and Martha L. Brouthers of Charleston, three sons: Arthur H. Brouthers, III of Charleston, Paul J. Brouthers of Summerville and John L. Brouthers of Myrtle Beach, a brother, Joe Spalviero of North Charleston, a sister, Inez Cox of James Island, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Friends may call on her family Monday, November 4, 2002 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Monday evening. Marjorie Thornley Smith, 89, of Summerville, SC, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at a local hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born on March 1, 1913 in Charleston, SC. She attended school in Charleston and she was a member of the Daughters of America. Since 1943, Mrs. Smith has resided in Summerville, SC. She was a homemaker and widow of Edward Earl Smith, Sr. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two sons, Edward Earl Smith, Jr. and Johnny Eugene Smith; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

NORRIS, Richard
Richard Rosweld Norris, 82, died October 28, 2002 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Born March 29, 1920 in Manchester, NH, he was the son of Frank D. and Eunice Rich Norris.
Mr. Norris received his Bachelors of Education at Keene State College, Keene, NH, and his Masters of Education from New York University, NYC, and served as a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force. He was an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Warwick and Irvington, NY, taught in the Spring Valley, NY school district and interned with Dr. Sol Levin for a period of two years. Mr. Norris was also a Ski Coach and teacher in the Hanover, NH school district. After moving to Mt. Pleasant, he became a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Marj) Norris, sons Dr. James S. Norris, Mt. Pleasant; David J. Norris, Pearland, TX; daughter Barbara M. Norris, St. Augustine, FL, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 1PM Friday, November 1st at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Rev. Sale was born November 19, 1937 in Lynchburg, VA, son of the late Howard H. Sale, Jr. and Ruby Chenault Sale. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnical Institute and he received a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Southern Theological Seminary in Columbia, SC. He served at Christ Lutheran Church as a Senior Pastor for seventeen years and for the past year he has served as Interim Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. He was also an Engineer at C. & P. Telephone Company of West Virginia for twenty years. He was a member of Snee Farm Country Club and a member of All Saints Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Sale of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sons, Michael and his wife, Wendy Sale of Marshall, TX, Scott Sale of Charleston, SC, Joshua and his wife, Julie Sale of Columbia, SC; and five grandsons and one granddaughter.

HAYES, SR., Lawson
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Lawson Hayes, Sr., 78, of 1129 Woodburn Road, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was born February 19, 1924, in West Newton, MA, a son of the late Clifford Barron and Dorothy Lawson Hayes. He was educated at St. Paul’s School, Concord, NH, graduated from Spartanburg High School, attended Davidson College, and graduated from The Citadel. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea. Mr. Hayes was a founding partner of Hayes Textiles, Inc., and served as National Vice President and Trustee of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. He played an instrumental role in starting and organizing the South Carolina Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a lifetime member and supporter of the South Carolina Nature Conservancy. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Springdale Hall Club, Camden, SC; the Biltmore Forest Country Club, Asheville, NC; the Carolina Yacht Club, Charleston, SC; the Hendersonville NC Country Club; the Piedmont Club of Spartanburg; the Spartanburg Country Club; and The Episcopal Church of the Advent of Spartanburg.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eaddy Williams Hayes; a son and his wife, Lawson Hayes, Jr. and Jean Garrett Hayes of Spartanburg; a daughter and her husband, Eaddo Hayes Kiernan and Peter DeLacy Kiernan III of Greenwich, CT; a brother, Clifford Barron Hayes, Jr. of Spartanburg; and six grandchildren, Lawson Hayes III, Garrett Louise Hayes, Eaddy Adelle Hayes Kiernan, Mary Agnes Reilly Kiernan, Sarah DeLacy Kiernan, and Peter DeLacy Kiernan IV. He was predeceased by a brother, John Edward Rollins Hayes.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2002, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Clay H. Turner. The crucifer will be Charles Refshauge.
