LAWRENCE, Joseph
Our Brother Joseph Lawrence died in the Lord on Sunday, October 27, 2002, after a long illness. He was born on January 15, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph Lawrence and Jeannette Sarle Lawrence. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1946, and attained the rank of Private First Class before being honorably discharged in March of 1948. He entered the Poor Brothers of St. Francis in Cincinnati in the spring of 1948 and left there to enter the Trappist Abbey of Gethsemani near Bardstown, KY, on July 10, 1949. He came to Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, S.C., with the second wave of founders on August 8, 1952. He transferred stability of simple vows on September 8, 1953, and professed Solemn Vows on November 1, 1956. During his years at Mepkin, he worked on the woods team, loaded the egg truck for many years, and served as director of the laundry for the community and guests. He maintained an extensive correspondence with friends of the community. He fell ill in April of this year, and was confined to the Senior Wing until his death. During this time, he was cared for lovingly around the clock by his brothers. His funeral and interment will be here at Mepkin on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.

Pearlie Crawford W. Smith, 81, of Dorchester, widow of John W. Willis and Charles I. Smith, Sr., died Saturday, October 26, 2002, in a North Charleston hospital.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at 11 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Limestone Baptist Church cemetery in Dorchester.

Mrs. Pearlie was born on August 24, 1921, in Dorchester, S.C., the daughter of the late David and Lila Tumbleston Crawford. She was a graduate of Harleyville Public Schools. She was a church clerk for ten years, youth director for five years and a member of Limestone Baptist Church for 70 years. She enjoyed gardening. She was a life long resident of Dorchester, S.C. She was owner of a timber and farm business.
Surviving are, two daughters, Lillian Smith Kosier and her husband L.J. of Dorchester, S.C., Louise Willis Smith and her husband Carl of Randleman, N.C.; step-son, Charles I. Smith and his wife Loretta of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two grandfathers; three great-granddaughters; and one great-great-granddaughter and one great-great-grandson.

WALTERBORO - Mrs. Lucille Crosby Floyd, 95, of 1734 Hiers Corner Road, died Sunday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 PM at Doctors Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Hans Wunch, Rev. Micah Lane, and Rev. Grady Garris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by the Brice W. Herndon and sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel.
Mrs. Floyd was born in Colleton County and was the daughter of the late James Bellinger Crosby and Ida Martin Crosby. She was the oldest member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, a member of King's Daughters Sunday School Class and W.M.U. She was a retired cook, a former correspondent for the Press & Standard Newspaper, and was a graduate of Bowman High School. She was the widow of McIver C. Floyd. She will always be remembered as a devoted and faithful Christian and mother.
Surviving are: a daughter, Virginia Fuller of Walterboro: sons, William A. "Bill" Floyd and J.B. "Jim" Floyd, both of Walterboro, and Frank Floyd of Lake Lure, North Carolina; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughters, Maxine Lane and Helen Haller, and a grandson, Billy Floyd.

JONES, SR., Ernest
G/Sgt. Ernest Berry Jones, Sr., U.S.M.C. (ret.), 73, husband of Mary Jane McDonough Jones of Charleston died Saturday, October 26, 2002. He was born Tuesday, July 16, 1929 in Decatur, GA, the son of Charles Herbert and Vesta Leana Vann Jones. Sgt. Jones proudly served his country for 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corp, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant. He attended Palmer College and was a graduate of the Baptist College with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Sgt. Jones was a night auditor with the Howard Johnson and Raddison Hotels. He later became a corrections officer and was Assistant Deputy Warden at the S.C. Prerelease Facility. Sgt. Jones was a member of the Church of Christ of the Latter Day Saints where he held numerous positions. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, one daughter, Teresa M. Jones of Hendersonville, NC; five sons, Ernest B. Jones, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael E. Jones of Hardeeville, SC, Charles J. Jones, Michael A. Jones, Sr. and Joshua D. Jones all of Charleston; two sisters-in-law, Catherine M. Cleary and Ann N. McDonough, both of Charleston; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Hilbert Linwood Wiggins, 81, of Mendel Rivers Road, St. Stephen, SC, a retired machinist at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Saturday at his residence.

Mr. Wiggins was born June 4, 1921, in Bonneau, SC, a son of Charlie Wiggins and Edwin Gaskins Wiggins. He was a Navy veteran of WWII . He was a member of the American Legion.

Anthony Thomas "Tony" Bilinsky, Jr., 64, of Summerville, husband of Valarie Henley Bilinsky, died Saturday in a North Charleston hospital.

Mr. Bilinsky was born on June 1, 1938 in New York, New York, a son of the late Anthony Thomas Bilinsky and Sonia Bodnenruk Bilinsky. He was a retired aerospace ground support technician with 437th AGS, Charleston Air Force Base. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Summerville.
Surviving are: his wife of Summerville, 2 sons, Ricky Bilinsky of Summerville and Steve and his wife Terry of Blufton, SC; granddaughter, Sarah Angelina Bilinsky of Blufton, SC.

HEMINGWAY, S.C. - Ina Esmer Springs, 70, widow of G. Junior Springs, died Saturday, October 26, 2002, in a Georgetown hospital.
Mrs. Springs was born in Hemingway, a daughter of the late Alfred A. Owens and Florence Cribb Owens. She was a homemaker, a retired supervisor for the Hemingway Apparel Mfg. Co., a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School.
Surviving are four sons, T. Greg Springs of Hemingway, Ronnie Springs of Norfolk, Va., Laran Springs of Johnsonville and Ronnie E. Cribb of Mt. Pleasant, daughter, Felicia Springs Lewis of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Mildred "Ilean" Tanner and Arletta Jordan, both of Georgetown and Connie Hanna of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren.
