THOMPSON, Leila
Entered into eternal rest the evening of December 15, 2002, Leila G. Thompson, widow of Hinton Givens and James R. Thompson, residence of North Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Thompson was born June 23, 1911, in Salley, S.C., the daughter of Dalius Eugene Salley and Gertie Ussery Salley. She was a member of Dorchester-Waylyn Baptist church and was a Quality Control Inspector with the Manhattan Shirt Shop.
Survivors include three daughters, Patsy G. Hodgin of Emerial Isle, N.C.; Frances Crossland of North Charleston, S.C.; Ouida G. Auld of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; three brothers, Bill Salley of Orangeburg, S.C.; Frank Salley of Salley, S.C., and Jack Salley of Shalotte, S.C.; two sisters, Eunice Edson of Salley, S.C., and Edna Piccato of Syracuse, N.Y.
HOMMEL, Wilson
Wilson Charles "Pete" Hommel, age 77, of Ladson, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2002, at Trident Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at 3 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel - 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C.
He was born July 24, 1925, in Saugerties, New York, to the late Wilson Charles "Pete" Hommel and Frances Hammel Hertiz. Mr. Hommel served as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corp. and retired from the U.S. Air Force with military honors after 26 years. He served with the Strategic Air Command as an aide to General Lawrence Kuter and General Blair Garland at Andrews AFB, Washington, DC. He retired after seven years from the U.S. Post Office. He was treasurer for the NALC Branch 3902 in Charleston and also for the South Carolina State National Association of Letter Carriers.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Carmo Hommel; a son, Keith Wilson (Diane Mims) Hommel of North Charleston, S.C., a daughter, Adelaide (Warren C. Jr.) Powell of Columbia, SC, a granddaughter, Anne Marie Powell; two sisters, Mrs. Wilson Brooks of Port Orange, Fla., and Mrs. Vivian (Robert) Naudain of Palm Springs, Calif.

BENNETT, Richard
Richard Cobun Bennett, 88, of Sebastian, Florida, entered into eternal rest on the morning of December 15, 2002 at Sebastian River Medical Center. Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Bennett are invited to attend the funeral services of the former at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Wednesday, December 18, at eleven o’clock. . Interment, Holy Cross cemetery. Friends may call at Stuhr’s Downtown Chapel on Tuesday between five and seven o’clock.
Mr. Bennett was born July 4, 1914, in Piedmont, West Virginia, a son of the late William F. Bennett and the late Ophie Freeland Bennett. During W.W.II, he worked as a welder at the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, Maryland. After the war he opened Bennett’s Body Shop, first in Terra Alta, West Virginia, and later at Third Street in Oakland, Maryland. For family reasons, he closed his shop in 1957 and moved his family to Orlando, Florida. There, he went to work for National Trailer Convoy, where he remained until retirement.
He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Mayvelle Ramsey Bennett. He is survived by his wife, June Deweese Bennett, of Sebastian, FL.; one daughter, Nancy Bennett Gissell of Charleston, SC; four sons: Richard C. Bennett of Old Town, FL., Jerry C. Bennett of Loudon, TN, William C. Bennett of Elizabeth City, NC and Gary C. Bennett of Charleston, SC; two brothers: Philip F. Bennett of Towson, MD and David S. Bennett of Naples, FL.; one sister: Louise Fulton of Kingsville, MD.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six step-children: Connie Wellman of Sebastian, FL., Bill Champe of Dahlonega, GA, Dreama Moyer of Grant, FL., Brenda Willis of Malabar, FL., Vivian Roth of Palm Bay, FL., and Donnie Champe of Sebastian, FL;14 step-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren.

BRANCHVILLE - Roger Eugene Wolfe, 51, died Sunday.
