Surviving are his wife of North Charleston, SC; a son, Joseph Samuel Ellis, Jr. of North Charleston, SC; a daughter, Linda LaBossiere of Hanahan, SC; a brother, Claude Ellis of Burton, SC; two sisters, Bea Bond of Inman, SC and Ann Taylor of North Charleston, SC; four grandchildren, James Vawter, Mindie Vawter, Amy Ellis and Joseph Samuel Ellis, III; two great-granddaughters, Madison Vawter and Rosa Ellis.

SMOAKS - Shirley Crosby Harris, 67, widow of Frederick Harris, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002.
The funeral will be 11 a.m., Tuesday (today), December 17, 2002, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ruffin, S.C. Burial will be in Westview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Harris was born in Colleton County and was the daughter of I.J. Crosby and Nettie Jamison Crosby. She was a graduate of Ruffin High School, Ruffin, S.C., and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors are, two sons, Frederick Harris, Jr. (Sandra), Honolulu, Hawaii, and Allen Harris, Jacksonville, N.C.; one daughter, Ronnette D. Moore (Sylvester), Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Annie Crosby, Orangeburg, S.C., Martha Ackerman, Savannah, Ga., and Joann Kinard, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Manny Crosby (Celesta), Bartow, Fla., and Ralph Crosby (Jean), Long Island, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

COLUMBIA - Service for William Chafin "Bill" Bridges, 86, will be held Wednesday, at 11:30 a.m. at North Trenholm Baptist Church with entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Rejoicing in heaven, Mr. Bridges left this earthly life to be with is Lord on Monday, December 16, 2002. "Whatever good I did, I did not for myself, but for my Lord."
Born in Lexington, Ga., he was a son of the late Walter and Rosa Chafin Bridges. A veteran of WWII and Korea, he retired from the U.S. Army and the S.C. Department of Mental Health. He was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. A volunteer for 20 years at Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, he was the 1994 recipient of the Jefferson Award for volunteer services in South Carolina and also a member of Toastmasters International.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Frances Jones Bridges, son, William Gerald "Jerry" Bridges and his wife, Sandy Bridges of Mt. Pleasant; daughter Rosemary Bridges Hedden and her husband, John Paul Hedden, Jr., of Columbia; grandchildren, William Jeff Bridges, III, and his fiancée, Tracey Myers of Raleigh, N.C.; Jennifer Robbie Bridges of Raleigh, N.C.; John Michael Hedden of Columbia; and brothers, Lewis Bridges of Norfolk, Va., and Ralph Bridges of Lexington, Ga.; and sister, Nelle Gillespie of Marshville, Ga. He was predeceased by brothers, Everett Bridges and Charles Bridges and sisters, Louise Bridges, Elizabeth Paul and Emily Ann Saye.

CONE, Wallis
SUMTER - Wallis Dicks Cone, MD, 87, widower of Margaret Dickson Cone, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at his home at Covenant Place.
Born in Williston, SC, he was a son of the late Wallis Cone, MD and the late Alma Dicks Cone.
Dr. Cone was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a 1936 graduate of the University of South Carolina and graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1940. He was a US Army Medical Corps World War II veteran. He moved to Sumter in 1948 to establish Sumter Urological. He was a member of the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association, the American Urological Association and a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology. He was a founding member of the Southern Society of Urological Surgeons. He was past president of the SC Urological Association and the Carolina Urological Association.
Surviving are a son, Col. Wallis Dicks Cone, Jr., and his wife Sandie of Sumter; a brother, G. Preston Cone, MD of Orangeburg; two granddaughters, Lee Cone Daniel and her husband Robert of Atlanta, GA, and Michelle Cone Fehr and her husband Craig of Atlanta, GA; two great-grandchildren, Maggie Daniel and Griffin Daniel; a daughter in law, Judy Cone Bridges and her daughter, Sarah of Charleston, SC.
He was predeceased in death by a son, Wells Allen Cone.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas Painter and Rev. Dr. Robert Stillwell officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George Cone, MD, Tom Cone, Craig Fehr, Robert Daniel, Jerry Jackson, MD, and Mike Nelson.

QUINN, Eula
Eula Agnes-Kelley Quinn, 104, of Charleston, died Monday, December 16th at a local nursing home. Born in Williamsburg County, City of Cades to the late Henry and Agnes O. Goff Foxworth. Mrs. Quinn was raised in Lake City by the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Kelley. A 1918 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Also in 1918 Mrs. Quinn married
John M. Quinn who predeceased her in 1938. She retired after 23 years as a public health nurse with the SC Health and Environmental Department. Mrs. Quinn was predeceased by three of her children: Charles Quinn, James Quinn and Eulalie Quinn Pace. Surviving Mrs. Quinn is her two sons, Edwin B. Quinn and Gerald J. Quinn, both of James Island; a daughter, Mary C. Quinn of Charleston, 11 grandchildren. 20 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 PM Tuesday, December 17th with a Rosary service beginning at 6 PM at MCALISTER-SMITH DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. MCMANUS, Terence
Terence Michael McManus, of Mt. Pleasant, began his new life with God in eternity on Saturday, December 14, 2002. Beloved husband of Geraldine Condon McManus of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Son of the late Joseph Cornelius and Mary McGrane McManus.
His personal philosophy was a love of God, his country and his family and community. This philosophy lead Terry to live a life of service to his fellow man. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Terry McManus was born in Charleston, SC on May 9, 1926. He graduated from Bishop England High School, attended University of Notre Dame, left to serve his country in the US Navy in WWII, and then returned to Notre Dame to complete his degree in electrical engineering, graduating cum laude in 1949. He returned home and married
his childhood sweetheart, Jerry Condon and shortly thereafter moved to Sullivan’s Island where he raised his 11 children. He was one of the original founders of the Sullivan’s Island Volunteer Fire Department and Island Club and served on Town Council for six years. He is a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church, a devout Christian who attended daily mass. He often attended mass at Christ Our King Church in Mt. Pleasant and Sacred Heart Church in Charleston. Sacred Heart was the church he worshipped in when he was growing up. He was a Professional Engineer at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 33 years. While working at the Shipyard, he was twice awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the highest recognition that the Shipyard can confer upon a civilian. After retiring, he worked for CDI, a private engineering firm for 8 years. After moving to Mt. Pleasant from Sullivan’s Island in 1987 he served as Chief Building Inspector for seven years and then served on Town Council for the next eight years. He was a 4thDegree Knights of Columbus Life Member and a board member of the Charleston County Department of Social Services.
To cherish his memories, he leaves his wife, Geraldine Condon McManus of Mt. Pleasant, SC; eleven children, three sons-in-law, and three daughters-in-law, Caroline M. and Bruce Young, Terry and Pat McManus, Mary M. Magee, Thomas McManus, Joe and Beth McManus, and William McManus and fiancée Chauntee Hutchins of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Marie McManus of Yemassee, SC, Lucy M. and John Burnett, Clare M. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, Christopher, Tricia, and Kathleen Young, Heather and Trey McManus, Rachel Livingston, Ashley and Melissa Magee, Shannon, Joseph, Kelly, Ryan, Matthew, and Molly McManus of Mt. HARTWELL, GA - Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Smith Page of 175 E. Johnson St., Hartwell, GA, died Saturday, December 14, in Hart County Hospital after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary illness.
She was born in Liberty, SC on June 30, 1913. She was one of nine children and the last surviving of the late Joseph Warren Smith and Martha Ulalia Kennermur Smith. She graduated from Lander College in Greenwood, SC and taught music and elementary education in the Starr/Iva and Hart County public school systems for 27 years.
She was an Elder in the Hartwell First Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed many years of active service as an accompanist, choir member, Sunday School teacher and member of the WOC. She was a member of the Hartwell Garden Club, the Hart County Retired Teachers Association and a past member of the UDC.
She was devoted to her family, her home, friends, church and community. She was married
in 1937 to the late George Wilson Page, Sr., a former mayor of Hartwell, GA and is survived by their children, Wilson Page, Jr. of Athens, GA and Tonnie Austin Page Rushing and son-in-law Charles Maynard Rushing, MD of Charleston. Her grandchildren include: George Kendall Vickery, a Fulbright Scholar in Japan, Carol Page Vickery of Charleston, Brian Charles Rushing of Morrisville, PA, Joan Rushing Devoe of Decatur, AL and Susanne Elise Rushing of Nashville, TN. Great-grandchildren include: Charlie and Mac Rushing, Amanda Katie, Cindy and Patrick Devoe and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 18 at 11 AM at the Hartwell First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stephen L. Nelms officiating. The family will greet friends during a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service. Burial in the family plot will follow at 1 PM in Northview cemetery. Mrs. Mackey was born June 9, 1919 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Robert Westley Jacques and Elizabeth Danderidge Jacques. She was a homemaker and attended St. Mark United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons: Dalton Mackey, Larry Mackey and Steve Mackey, all of Charleston, SC; one sister, Ina Mae Brown of Timmonsville, SC; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
