Edna Gunning Hall, 87, formerly of Union, widow of Boyd Lee Hall, died Nov. 25, 2002, at 10:10 p.m. in the National Health Care Center in Laurens. Mrs. Hall was born in Swain County, N.C. on April 12, 1915, a daughter of the late Joseph Michael Gunning and Annie Cathey Gunning. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a granddaughter and her husband, Leslie and Mike Lanier of Buffalo; a great-grandson, Michael Watkins of Greenville; and a special niece, Kayla Kirby of Union. Mrs. Hall was predeceased by a daughter, Geraldine Watkins; a granddaughter, Lisa Farmer; three sisters, Agnes Hooper, Ann Henderson and Virginia Dorman; and two brothers, Joseph Gunning and Arville Gunning.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Jerry McKee and Minister Jesse Ham. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2 p.m.
After the funeral services, the family will be at the Community Room, Woodlawn Manor Apts., Woodlawn Ave., Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Kaye Lawson
Kaye Lawson, 51, formerly of Jonesville, died Nov. 26, 2002, at 12:40 p.m. in Brookview Health Care in Gaffney after an extended illness. Ms. Lawson was born in Union on Jan. 4, 1951, a daughter of the late J.W. and Carol Finley Lawson.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union. Ms. Lawson was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Liberty National Insurance Co., Sam's Club and Grand Furniture Co. of Spartanburg.
Surviving are two aunts, Maggie Lawson Alverson and Evelyn Finley Vanderford both of Union; an uncle, Claude Finley and his wife Mary of Union; two special friends, Terry Price of Spartanburg and Lois Honness of Virginia. Ms. Lawson was predeceased by a sister, Rebecca L. Gilliam.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be James (Bubba) Harvey Jr., Wayne Sanders, Tommy Fowler, Raymond Spradlin, Michael Price Jr. and Dewayne Tharpe. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
The family will be at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Union County Cancer Service, c/o Ola Jean Kelly, 117 Fant Lane, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Todd E. Logan
BARTLETT, TENN. - Todd E. Logan, 50, husband of Jean Wendt Logan, of Bartlett, Tenn., died Nov. 23, 2002, at Baptist Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Logan was the son of Gene E. Logan and Gay T. Logan of Union. He graduated with a BSME from the University of South Carolina. He was employed with Pak-Tec as Sales Engineer. He was a recording artist with Capricorn Records and Island Records.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Katherine K. Logan; a son, E. Wells Logan; two sisters, Bonnie Logan and Tracey Logan; and a brother, Jeff Logan. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Martins in the Field Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Lucille S. Calhoun
Lucille Mable Sherfield Calhoun, 83, of 200 Hillcrest Drive, Union, widow of Gail F. Calhoun, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at 3:10 a.m. in White Oak Estates in Spartanburg. Mrs. Calhoun was born in Buffalo on Dec. 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Will and Helen Nance Sherfield. She was a members of Buffalo Baptist Church and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda C. and John M. Jenkins of Union and Shirley C. and Jesse Messer of Asheville, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Wanda Calhoun of Union; three sistes, Louise Fincher and Peggy Bogan, both of Buffalo and Violet Lawson of Lenoir, N.C.; a brother, Paul Sherfield of Buffalo; five grandsons, Chuck and Tim Messer, Chade and Charlie Jenkins and Chip Calhoun; three great-granddaughters, Bailee Calhoun, Malia Messer and Maile Messer.
Mrs. Calhoun was predeceased by three brothers, Bud Sherfield, Bob Sherfield and Bill Sherfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will be active pallbearers.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8. The family is at the home, 200 Hillcrest Drive. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Donald F. Keller
WHITMIRE - Donald F. Keller, 89, widower of Minnie G. Keller, of 174 Alexander Road, Whitmire, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2003, at 11:08 p.m. at his home. Mr. Keller, a native of Union County, was born March 25, 1914, a son of the late Annie Lee Bumgarner. Mr. Keller was employed at Young Chevrolet as a mechanic.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Nancy Keller of Whitmire; three sisters, Louise Eaves, Lucy Eaves and Betty Simms, all of Union; two brothers, Gene Bumgarner and wife, Vick, of Whitmire and Carl Bumgarner and wife, Sharon, of Clinton; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sons: West Keller, and two infant sons. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. today at the Lee Cemetery in Whitmire conducted by the Rev. Steven Young. The body remained at the Lewis Funeral Home where the family received friends Wednesday night.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Brock, Tommy Brock, Roger Davis, Mandale Eaves, Mickey Eaves, and Chris Keller. Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Ammons and E.B. Wallen. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Healh Hospice, P.O. Box 352 Newbverry. The family is at the home of his son, Bill Keller, 6318 Whitmire Highway in Whitmire. The Lewis Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Russell A. Bigham Sr.
CLINTON - Russell Andrew Bigham, Sr., 75, of 233 Elvis Pressley Blvd., Clinton, died Nov. 26, 2002 in the Laurens County Hospital. Mr. Bigham was born in Chester on Aug. 26, 1927 and was a son of the late Neely Walter and Daisy M. Bigham. He was a World War II veteran, attended the First Assembly Church of God and was a retired supervisor for Clinton Mills spool-room.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Bigham of the home; two sons and their wives, Neely and Mary Bigham of Union and James and Betty Bigham of Florence; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Bill Snider of Ninety Six and Pat and Robert Markovics of Wendell, N.C.; a brother, Gilbert Bigham of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bigham was predeceased by a son, Russell Andrew Bigham; three brothers and seven sisters. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday evening from 7-9 at Gray Funeral Home in Clinton. Gray Funeral Home, Clinton, has charge of arrangements.
Katherine L. Langley
LOCKHART - Katherine L. Langley, 58, of 1108 Lockhart Drive, Lockhart, died at her home Nov. 27, 2002, at 10:35 a.m. Ms. Langley was born in Newberry County on Sept. 12, 1944, a daughter of the late Roland Jackson Northern and Mable Ruth Enix Northern McCarley Northern. She was of the Free Will Baptist faith and was formerly employed with Defenders Industries.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Lewis Jones of the home; two daughters, Debby P. Williams of Huntersville, N.C. and Tina P. Mull of Belmont, N.C.; a son, William L. Partain of Stanley, N.C.; a sister, Dorothy Ferrell of Chester; two brothers, Eugene Northern of Jackson, Ark.; and Bobby Enix of Chester; six grandchildren, Tiffany Williamson, Nicholas Williamson, Justin Williams, Chad Williams, Erica Mull and Joshua Mull; a great-granddaughter, Aloddia Williamson.
Ms. Langley was predeceased by a son, Jimmy R. Partain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ronnie Green and Chaplain Skip Snyder.
Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. The family is at the home, 1108 Lockhart Drive, Lockhart. Memorials may be made to Regional Hospice, Suite 300, 120 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, S.C. 29303. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Sara E. Lewis
Sara Eaves Lewis, 78, wife of Carl H. Lewis of 114 Boyd St., Union, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at 5:50 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Lewis was born in Union County on Dec. 17, 1924, a daughter of the late Henry E. Eaves and Nellie Inman Eaves Roberts. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Lewis attended Union County Schools and was a retired secretary for Western Auto.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail L. Betenbaugh and Carol L. Hughes and husband Doug, all of Union; a sister, Mamie E. Bailey of Simpsonville; a brother, Bob Eaves of Greer; four grandchildren, Dena M. Palmer reared in the home; Wendy B. Childers and Christopher M. Betenbaugh, all of Union and Richard L. Betenbaugh of Chesnee; a special uncle, James (Hady) Inman; two special friends, Rudelle Morris and Mildred Farr and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister and a son-in-law, Betty E. McNeace and Charlie Betenbaugh Jr.. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Sunday at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon and the Rev. Joe Stover. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Chastain, Gene Rector, Torrance Inman, Shane Sherfield, Jim Cook and Colon Duckett. The following are asked to assemble at the funeral chapel Sunday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Dr. Gerald Fielder, employees of the third floor, south, at Wallace Thomson Hospital and Jerry Robertson.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30. The family is at the home, 114 Boyd St., Union. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
