Terence Michael McManus, of Mt. Pleasant, began his new life with God in eternity on Saturday, December 14, 2002. Beloved husband of Geraldine Condon McManus of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Son of the late Joseph Cornelius and Mary McGrane McManus.
His personal philosophy was a love of God, his country and his family and community. This philosophy lead Terry to live a life of service to his fellow man. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Terry McManus was born in Charleston, SC on May 9, 1926. He graduated from Bishop England High School, attended University of Notre Dame, left to serve his country in the US Navy in WWII, and then returned to Notre Dame to complete his degree in electrical engineering, graduating cum laude in 1949. He returned home and married
his childhood sweetheart, Jerry Condon and shortly thereafter moved to Sullivan’s Island where he raised his 11 children. He was one of the original founders of the Sullivan’s Island Volunteer Fire Department and Island Club and served on Town Council for six years. He is a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church, a devout Christian who attended daily mass. He often attended mass at Christ Our King Church in Mt. Pleasant and Sacred Heart Church in Charleston. Sacred Heart was the church he worshipped in when he was growing up. He was a Professional Engineer at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 33 years. While working at the Shipyard, he was twice awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the highest recognition that the Shipyard can confer upon a civilian. After retiring, he worked for CDI, a private engineering firm for 8 years. After moving to Mt. Pleasant from Sullivan’s Island in 1987 he served as Chief Building Inspector for seven years and then served on Town Council for the next eight years. He was a 4thDegree Knights of Columbus Life Member and a board member of the Charleston County Department of Social Services.
To cherish his memories, he leaves his wife, Geraldine Condon McManus of Mt. Pleasant, SC; eleven children, three sons-in-law, and three daughters-in-law, Caroline M. and Bruce Young, Terry and Pat McManus, Mary M. Magee, Thomas McManus, Joe and Beth McManus, and William McManus and fiancée Chauntee Hutchins of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Marie McManus of Yemassee, SC, Lucy M. and John Burnett, Clare M. Blackwell, Peter and Susan McManus of Awendaw, SC, Jeannie M. and Furman Langley of Fernandina Beach, FL. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, Christopher, Tricia, and Kathleen Young, Heather and Trey McManus, Rachel Livingston, Ashley and Melissa Magee, Shannon, Joseph, Kelly, Ryan, Matthew, and Molly McManus of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jennifer and Jeremy Dupin, Andy and Beth Burnett, Travis, Caitlin, and Abigail Blackwell, Ian Geddie of Awendaw, SC; Clellen and Bryan Bowden of Austin, Texas, Sean Geddie of Edgewater, MD, Lauren and Erik Coe, Ben, Adam, and Sean Patrick Langley of Fernandina Beach, FL; and three greatgrands, Haden and Maeve Bowden of Austin, TX, and Baby Coe due next summer of Fernandina Beach, FL. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph Corneilus (Neil) and Trudie McManus of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Dr. Eugene and Margie McManus of Aiken, SC, and sister-in-law Mary Lou McManus, wife of his late brother, Ronnie McManus and was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law John and Margaret Cronin.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Ms. T.M. McManus are invited to attend the funeral services on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Stella Maris Church, Sullivan’s Island, SC . Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant, SC . Visitation will be from 3:00PM until 8:00PM today at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Rd. Rosary will be recited at 4:30PM. WRIGHT, Eleanor
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Eleanor Myers Wright and of her husband, the late Mr. Julius Wright, those of her children, Mr. Stephen Wright, Mr. Reginald Wright and Ms. Demetria Wright, those of her step-daughter, Ms. Kelly Jackson, and those of her brother, Mr. Herbert Myers, nieces, nephews, and cousins are invited to attend her Home-Going service on Tuesday, December 17, 2002, 1 PM at Baums Temple AME Zion Church, Summerville, SC, Rev. Mary Tucker, pastor. Interment, Hill Crest cemetery, Summerville, SC. Mrs. Wright will lie in state at AIKEN-CAPERS FUNERAL HOME today from 3 - 6 PM.
CUMMINGS, Nether
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Nether W. Cummings of Charleston, SC, are invited to attend her funeral services on Tuesday, December 17, 2002, 11 AM at GETHERS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC. Interment, Lloyd cemetery, Cordesville, SC. Viewing will be Monday from 3 - 8 PM.
Surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
BAILEY, JR., Harry
WALTERBORO - Harry N. Bailey, Jr., 49, a retired machinist with Asten Johnson Corp., died Sunday at Palmetto Boarding Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at the graveside in Live Oak cemetery, directed by the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Bailey was born October 11, 1953 in Walterboro, a son of the late Harry N. Bailey, Sr. and Hattie Hudson Bailey.
Surviving are: two half-brothers, Francis V. Hudson and William A. Hudson, both of Walterboro.
There will be no visitation.
PIPKIN, Corine
Corine Parker Pipkin, 81, of Jamestown, died Saturday at her residence.
The funeral will be at 11 AM Tuesday, at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in church cemetery.
Mrs. Pipkin was born November 13, 1921 in Bonneau, SC, a daughter of George W. Parker, Sr. and Nita Judy Parker. She was a member of the Hell Hole Swamp Festival Committee. She was a Methodist and a former Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are her husband, James W. Pipkin of Jamestown; son, Roy P. (Chris) Pipkin of Jamestown; daughter, Jimmie K. (Mark) Murray of Jamestown; sister, Mary Ellen Netherton of Rockerby, CA; brother, Godfrey L. Parker of Charleston; five grandchildren: Gregg Murray, Alexandria Rogers, Tonya Tolson, Brian J. Pipkin and Ashley R. Pipkin; great-grandchildren, Haley Tolson and Blake Rogers.
Friends may call at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner, from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday evening.

O'NEAL, William
BEAUFORT - William V. O'Neal, 81, of Beaufort, formerly of Columbia, SC, died Saturday, December 14, 2002 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 17, at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Beaufort with burial in Grahamville cemetery near Ridgeland. The family will receive visitors at the residence, 8 Appleby Lane, Beaufort, Monday, December 16, from 6 to 8 PM. SAULS FUNERAL HOME in Ridgeland is in charge.
Mr. O'Neal was born November 19, 1921, in New Orleans, LA. He was one of two sons born to Marion O'Neal and Ruth Coney O'Neal.
Mr. O'Neal was a member and Elder Emeritus of Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church in Columbia. He served as an aerial photographer during WWII with the 24th Combat Mapping Squadron assigned to the 14th Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater.
A 1950 Graduate of the University of SC in mechanical engineering, he was a partner in the engineering consulting firm of Durlach, O'Neal, Jenkins and Associates in Columbia for 30 years. He then joined Wilbur Smith, Inc. to head the Mechanical Engineering Division. During his distinguished career, he received many awards and citations for his engineering designs and his active participation in professional organizations. He is a past president of the Columbia Chapter of the SC Society of Professional Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Carolina Tison O'Neal, a daughter, Leila Stallworth and two sons, Keith T. O'Neal and William G. O'Neal P.E., all of Beaufort; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC or a charity of your choice.
BAIR, Sara
Sara Byers Bair, 76, of 3481 Faust St., Bamberg, SC, widow of James Harold Bair, passed away on December 15, 2002 at her residence.
Mrs. Bair was born on November 23, 1926 in Holly Hill, the daughter of the late Nairnie (Dit) Way Byers and the late Edward Davis Byers, Jr.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bamberg, SC. She was a registered nurse for over 30 years and was a member of Charles Pinkney Chapter NSDAR.
Surviving Mrs. Bair is one daughter, Sally Bair of Bamberg; and one grandson, Ryan Jones of Bamberg.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at 10 AM in The First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. David Pohto. Burial will follow in Holly Hill cemetery, Holly Hill, SC. Casket will be placed in the church at 9 AM.
Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2002 at COONER FUNERAL HOME from 6 - 8 PM. Donations may be made to The American Cancer Society and Hospice.
