Irene V. Thomas, age 89, of North Charleston, S.C., passed away on December 15, 2002, at home.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at 11 a.m., in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C. 29406. Burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Mary) Thomas of North Charleston, S.C., a daughter, Diane T. King of North Charleston, S.C., two step-daughters, Marie T. (J.B.) Blount of Azalee T. Linyard, both of Belvedere, S.C. Also included are eight grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Felder H. Thomas and a granddaughter, Jill T. King.

SMITH, William
William D. "Bill" Smith, 66, of Pinopolis Road, Moncks Corner, S.C., a retired engineer for Charleston Marine Container, Inc., died Saturday at his residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday morning, December 17, 2002, in First Presbyterian Church, Moncks Corner. Interment will be in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this Monday evening.
Mr. Smith was born February 23, 1936, in Jackson, Ky., a son of Elige Smith, Sr., and Mary Ann Turner Smith. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Moncks Corner. He was a Mason and a Shriner and served in the U.S. Army. After his retirement, Mr. Smith served as a consultant in the intermodal industry. He received his Associates degree from Limestone College.
Surviving are, his wife, Glennis Frank Smith, his mother of Jackson, Ky.; two daughters, Susan Hallatt of Buffalo, N.Y., and Sharlia Ann Smith of Moncks Corner; two sons, Gary L. Smith of Longs, S.C., and Clinton C. Smith of White Lake, Mich.; a sister, Juanita Fraley of Jackson, Ky.; two brothers, Calvin Smith of Foster, Ky., and Elige Smith, Jr., of Jackson, Ky.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
O'HARA, James
James Mardon O'Hara, 70, of Charleston, a retired U.S. Navy Commander and engineer, died Friday, December 13, 2002. The relatives and friends of Mr. James M. Mr. O'Hara was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on October 6, 1932, a son of Robert Edward O'Hara and Helen Burke O'Hara. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy he was employed by the RCA corporation in sales. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Officer's Club, was an avid golfer, a Roman Catholic and an active volunteer in sports programs at Cardinal Newman High School. Mr. O'Hara is survived by six children, Jim O'Hara of Santa Fe, N.M., Anne O'Hara Skorski of Chicago, Suzy O'Hara of Gaithersburg, Md., Megan O'Hara of Charleston, Kevin O'Hara of Dusseldorf, Germany, and Sean O'Hara of Columbia, S.C., two brothers, Bobby O'Hara and Burke O'Hara of New York, N.Y. Mrs. Ruby Holt Skinner, 72, of 305 Cain Street in Hampton, died Saturday at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Skinner was born in Stanley Town, Virginia, April 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Burley Thomas Holt and Lera Orander Holt. She as a retired Seamstress with Hampton Apparel, and was a member of the West End Baptist Church in Hampton. She was the widow of the late George E. Skinner. Surviving are, three sons, George W. Skinner of Hampton, Thomas E. Skinner of Varnville, and Donald E. Skinner of Rincon, Ga.; one daughter, Geraldine Crapse of Hampton; two brothers, Dewey Holt and Virgil Holt both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two sisters, Helen Wilbanks of Mountain Rest, S.C., and Marie Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C. There are ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, in the Chapel of PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON, conducted by Rev. William Buddy Presley, with burial in the Hampton cemetery.
