HOMMEL, Wilson
Wilson Charles "Pete" Hommel, age 77, of Ladson, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2002, at Trident Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at 3 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel - 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C.
He was born July 24, 1925, in Saugerties, New York, to the late Wilson Charles "Pete" Hommel and Frances Hammel Hertiz. Mr. Hommel served as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corp. and retired from the U.S. Air Force with military honors after 26 years. He served with the Strategic Air Command as an aide to General Lawrence Kuter and General Blair Garland at Andrews AFB, Washington, DC. He retired after seven years from the U.S. Post Office. He was treasurer for the NALC Branch 3902 in Charleston and also for the South Carolina State National Association of Letter Carriers.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Carmo Hommel; a son, Keith Wilson (Diane Mims) Hommel of North Charleston, S.C., a daughter, Adelaide (Warren C. Jr.) Powell of Columbia, SC, a granddaughter, Anne Marie Powell; two sisters, Mrs. Wilson Brooks of Port Orange, Fla., and Mrs. Vivian (Robert) Naudain of Palm Springs, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Suite #205, Columbia, S.C.

WELCH, Silas
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of December 14, 2002, Silas B. Welch, retired Chief of the Charleston County Police Department and husband of Virginia Rodgers Welch, residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday, December 17, 2002, 11 o'clock in St. James Episcopal Church, James Island. Burial will be in Christ-St. Paul's Episcopal Churchyard, Meggett, SC. Friends may call Monday in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL from 5 to 7.
Mr. Silas was born January 26, 1916 in Adams Run, SC, a son of Silas Sylester and Naomi Bailey Welch. He attended Clemson University and a graduate of the FBI Academy.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Virginia W. Pitts of James Island, SC; two grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi W. Kennedy of Charleston, SC and Elizabeth Ann Huggins of Yonges Island, SC.

KWIST, Martha
Martha Hubregtse Kwist, 91, of Summerville, SC, widow of Jan Kwist, died Friday morning, December 13, 2002 at a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Summerville Presbyterian Church, Monday morning, December 16, 2002 at 11 o'clock. Burial will be held at Summerville cemetery.

CWO 4 Charles E. Brown (USN Ret), 83, of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Charleston, S.C., and husband of Lucille V. Brown, died December 13, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Bradshaw was born August 4, 1928 in Chestnut Hill, PA. A son of William R. and Florence Raven Bradshaw (nee Brey). He received his degree in mathematics and was a graduate of Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA. After working with IBM for 30 years, he retired as Director of Information Systems. Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw moved to Wild Dunes where he served as the first property owner President of the Wild Dunes Community Association. They had been residents of Wild Dunes community for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Bradshaw and his three sons: Elliott J. Bradshaw of Belmont, MA, Paul W. Bradshaw of San Jose, CA and Jeffery L. Bradshaw of Monroe, CT; also, 3 step-daughters: Barbara A. Locascio of Carmel, NY; Carol L. Brokaw of Duluth, GA and Janet L. Morris of Danbury, CT; and 3 grandchildren; his sister, Doris B. Coble of Lititz, PA; and step-mother, Clara H. Bradshaw of Springhouse, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charities of one's choice.

DRAKE, Virginia
Entered into eternal life on the evening of December 14, 2002, Virginia Lucas Drake, wife of Leon Rogers Drake, residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Tuesday, December 17, 2002, 2 o'clock in St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery. Friends may call Monday at 900 Yeamans Hall Road, Hanahan, between 4 and 6.
Mrs. Drake was born October 3, 1929 in Charleston, SC, daughter of James Doar and Jane Harriott Larsen Lucas. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall and attended College of Charleston. She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and attended St. John's in the Wilderness Church in Flat Rock, NC. She was a member of Junior League of Charleston and National Society of Colonial Dames of America.
She is survived by her husband of Charleston, SC; two sons, Jonathan Lucas Yates and Cordes Lucas Drake, both of Charleston, SC; one grandson, Jonathan Lucas Yates, Jr. of Charleston, SC, and one sister, Mrs. Van Noy Thornhill of Charleston, SC.
Memorials may be made to St. James Santee Brick Church, PO Box 111, McClellanville, SC 29458.

MYERS, Ansel
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of December 14, 2002, Ansel Butler Myers, retired machinist at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, residence North Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the graveside Wednesday, December 18, 2002, 11 o'clock at Shiloh Methodist Churchyard, Bowman, SC. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7 o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Mr. Myers was born August 25, 1910 in Greenville, SC, the son of George Matthew and Mary Collier Myers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowman. Mr. Myers was an Army Veteran. He served in WWII and was a POW. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
