SHRIVER, Lillian
Mrs. Lillian Verna DeLoach Reardon Shriver, 91, widow of the late Norman Henry Shriver, died last Tuesday in the Roper Hospital in Charleston after an extended illness.
Mrs. Shriver was born in Cummings, (Hampton County) April 8, 1971, a daughter of the late Britton Boston DeLoach and Lillian Peeples DeLoach. She was a homemaker, a member of the Steep Bottom Baptist Church, and had been very active with the Hampton County Senior Citizens Group.
Surviving are: one son, Edward Britton Reardon of Blooming Glen, PA; one brother, Edward Benjamin DeLoach of Green Lane, PA; one grandson, Mark Davis Reardon; and Mrs. Shriver was predeceased by a brother, William Frank DeLoach.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday in the Steep Bottom Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Lennie Brisendine, with burial in the Sand Hill cemetery near Varnville and directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton.
Friends may call at the chapel in Hampton from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, and Wednesday until 1 PM when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.
NEWTON, Blanche
Blanche Owens Newton, 78, of Ravenel, widow of Addison Eppie Newton, died Monday morning at her residence.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 11 o'clock in the First Baptist Church of Ravenel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.
Mrs. Newton was born October 31, 1924 in Hampton, SC, the daughter of Wilber Owens and Edna White Bivens. She attended St. Paul's Elementary school. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ravenel.
Surviving are: her daughters: Gloria Jean Sires of Adams Run, Carolyn Newton Freymuth of Ravenel, Annett Newton of Ravenel, Janette Crosby of Ravenel; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Gaskins of Mt. Pleasant.

RIVERS, Pauline
Pauline Seabrook Rivers, 88, the widow of Thomas Perry Rivers, of Mt. Pleasant, died in a local convalescent center December 2, 2002. The daughter of the late William Jeffords and Sara Bryan Gilliland Seabrook, she was born in Charleston, SC and attended Ashley Hall School in Charleston, Fassi Fern School for Girls in North Carolina and Winthrop College. Mrs. Rivers was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress, and owner of Polly's Fabrics. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant. She will be sadly missed by her son, William Ginn of Burlington, NC; daughter, Paula Rivers of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren: Chuck Wallace, Mt. Pleasant, Thomas Wallace, Ladson, Andrew Wallace, Mt. Pleasant, William R. Ginn, Jr., Apex, NC, Martha Ginn Smith, High Point, NC; and two great-grandchildren: Bryant and Katelyn Smith of High Point, SC. HACKETT, Robert
ARDMORE, PA - Robert Charles Hackett, 82, of Wayne, PA, formerly of Arlington, VA and Charleston, SC died Friday, November 29, 2002 of cancer at the Bryn Mawr Terrace nursing home in Bryn Mawr, PA. He was a businessman, soldier, athlete and philosopher.
Mr. Hackett attended Friends Central School and graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1939. He was a member of the State championship basketball team and on the football squad while at Lower Merion. After World War II, he attended Duke University where he also played basketball.
A Lieutenant of the 517th parachute regiment during WWII, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals for service in Europe and he remained active in his unit's veteran's association. In that conflict, he participated in the campaigns in Rome - Arno, Southern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. During the Korean War he returned to service as an athletic instructor in the army's training camp at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky until 1952.
Mr. Hackett worked in the military food brokerage business for many years at Francois Schwartz, Inc. before founding Sales Service, Inc. in 1959. Sales Service merged with Wilson Harrell, Inc. in 1960. He was a founder of Trinity Marketing Corporation in 1966, based in Devon, Pennsylvania, which became an industry leader under his direction as President and CEO.
In retirement, Mr. Hackett was a tennis instructor in Cincinnati, Washington, DC and Edisto Beach, South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Laurel Girardin with whom he had two daughters, Kristen and Robin. His first marriage (1948 - 1978) was to Jean Roach with whom he had five children Connie, Robert, Andrew, Donald and Harry. He has ten grandchildren.
Mr. Hackett was the son of Helen McCarey Hackett (1891 - 1992) and Harry W. Hackett, Sr. (1876 - 1974) of Overbrook, PA. Preceding him in death was his brother, Harry W. Hackett, Jr. (1918 - 1992) of Villanova. He is survived by his brother, William E. Hackett of Edisto Beach, South Carolina.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Millridge Manor House, Park Avenue, Bryn Mawr, from 3 to 5 PM on Saturday, December 7th. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to the Creekside Church Benevolent Fund, PO Box 30461, Charleston, SC 29417.

HUSS, Viola
Viola May Huss, of Mount Pleasant, died December 1, 2002 at the Sandpiper Convalescent Center.
Interment, directed by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, was at Carolina Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 11 o'clock at Highland Park Baptist Church, 6211 Murray Avenue, Hanahan, SC. Mrs. Huss was born November 4, 1907 in Newport, KY, the youngest of six children of Edward C. Parker and Ida M. Wright Parker.
Following residences in Northern Kentucky, Spartanburg, SC and Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Huss came to live in Charleston in 1962. Her husband, the late Dr. John E. Huss, was pastor of Charleston Heights Baptist Church, author of fourteen books, and member of several civic organizations. In all his pastorates since their marriage in 1935, Mrs. Huss was very active in the churches' programs. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and was regarded by many of the young women she taught as a role model and mentor. As a minister's wife, she was admired for her dignity and warmth. The two most important areas of her life were her home and the church.
Within a short time of Dr. Huss' death in 1987, Mrs. Huss moved to Sandpiper Village in Mount Pleasant and later to the Sandpiper Convalescent Center.
Surviving are two sons, John D. Huss of Fairfax, VA and Paul D. Huss of Burnswick, ME; and five grandchildren, Paul's son, Todd C. Huss of San Francisco, CA, Paul's stepchildren, Nicholas Robinson of Brooklin, ME and Hannah Seaman of Newcastle, ME and John's children, Dmitry Huss and Anatasia Huss of Fairfax, VA.

Kevin L. Schattner, Sr., 55, of Ladson, SC, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at a local hospital.
Cryptside funeral services will be held at Summerville cemetery Mausoleum, Wednesday morning, December 4, 2002 at 11 o'clock.
Mr. Schattner was born on June 29, 1947 in Buffalo, New York, a son of Marie Reiter Angelo. He worked in various law enforcement positions for over 30 years. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church and was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War serving 2 tours.
Survivors include his wife, Judy McCarter Schattner of Ladson; his mother, Marie Angelo of Ladson; daughter, Katherine Klaiber, and her husband, Robert, of Summerville; three grandsons: Sean Schattner, Robert Klaiber, Jr., and Trevor Klaiber, all of Summerville. Mr. Schattner was preceded in death by his son, Kevin L. Schattner, Jr.

Adelbert Stanley Lopata, 82, of Summerville, S.C., husband of Julia P. Lopata, died November 30, 2002, in Summerville, S.C.

Mr. Lopata was born November 2, 1920, in Shenandoah, Pa., a son of Adam Lopata and Catherine Lopata. He was a retired maintenance technician for the Bloomfield School Board.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Pietkiewicz Lopata, one daughter, Geralyn Demas and husband William Demas all of Summerville, S.C., one son, Michael Lopata and wife Tamara Lopata of Atlanta, Ga., one brother, Stanley Lopata of East Hartford, Conn., one sister, Sister Mary Valenta of Pennsylvania, four grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Demas and Trenton and Marisa Lopata.

RODGERS, JR., Fred
KINGSTREE - Fred LeGrand Rodgers, Jr., 80, died Tuesday in a Kingstree hospital.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Williamsburg Co., a son of the late Cora Hanna Rodgers and Fred L. Rodgers, Sr. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was an Army veteran of W.W.II. Mr. Rodgers was a farmer, merchant and a retired fireman. He was a Presbyterian.
Surviving are, his wife, Mrs. Mary Evans Rodgers of Kingstree, two sons, Davis LeGrand Rodgers of Emory Dale Rodgers, both of Kingstree, one daughter, Julie Burnett of York, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Thursday, in the WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, with burial in McClary cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to McClary cemetery.
