SUN CITY HILTON HEAD -- James J. Collins Sr., 73, of Sun City Hilton Head died Wednesday, July 31, at his home.
Mr. Collins was born in Chelsea, Mass., the son of the late John H. and Florence Coughlin Collins.
He worked for Brockway-Smith in Andover, Mass., for 27 years. He and his wife, June P. Cook Collins, moved to Sun City in 1997 after living in Melrose, Mass., for 35 years. He was a member of the VFW of Melrose and of Sun City. He loved to golf at Sun City and at Haig Point.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Goff and Kim A. Collins, both of North Andover, Mass; a daughter-in-law, Janet Collins of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; a brother, Robert V. Collins of Taunton, Mass; and five grandchildren, Katie M. Collins, Ashleigh Goff, Kevin Goff, and Taylor and Christopher Barrett.
He was preceded in death by his son James J. Collins Jr. of Ponte Vedra on May 4.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, with the Rev. H. Gregory West officiating.

Mildred Martha Wiese Frentz
Mildred Martha Wiese Frentz, 102, widow of Fred H. Frentz, died Wednesday, July 17th at River Oaks Residential Care Facility.
Private services will be in Stevensville, MI,
Mrs. Frentz was born July 23, 1899 in Hammond, Indiana, a daughter of Hattie Humburg Wiese and Edward J. Wiese.
She grew up in Stevensville and St. Joseph, MI and spent her married life in Hammond, IN. She returned to Stevensville in 1960. She was a member of the Worldwide Church of God in Michigan City, IN and the St. Joseph (MI) Senior Citizens Center. She was a housewife but was previously employed as a clerical worker at The Cooper Wells Company. In 1993, she moved to Spring Island to live with her daughter.
She was preceded in death by a step daughter, Dorothy Frentz Paterson.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Kinsey of Spring Island, SC;
9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great- great grandchildren.

William Thomas McCann Sr.
MOUNT PLEASANT -- William Thomas McCann Sr., 82, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Roper Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lady's Island, with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery.
Mr. McCann was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Richmond, Va., a son of Bertha Hayes McCann and Raymond McCann.
He was a U.S. Marine WW II veteran and received two Purple Hearts. He graduated from the University of Virginia and was a former basketball coach at Hampton Sydney College, Washington & Lee College and the University of Virginia. He retired from Fripp Island Real Estate Co.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael McCann.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Fetner McCann of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Betty M. Thompson of Richmond, Va. and Patricia Grambling of Mount Pleasant; two sons, William T. McCann Jr. of Richmond, Va. and William E. Ingram of Savannah; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to The Virginia Home for Boys, 1101 Hampton Street, Richmond, VA 23220; All Saints Lutheran Church, 2107 Hwy. 17 North, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466 or St. John's Lutheran Church, 157 Lady's Island Drive, Beaufort, SC 29902.

Helen C. Buck
Helen "Chickie" Chickering Buck, 92, of Hilton Head Island and Jupiter Inlet Colony, Fla., died Saturday at the Preston Health Center.
She was born on July 14, 1910, in Oil City, Pa., the daughter of James H. and Helen S. Chickering. She graduated from the National Cathedral School in Washington.
In 1931, she married 2nd Lt. Champlin F. Buck, Jr., a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. The couple had a full life and military career from coast to coast.
In 1946, she took her two children to Yokohama, Japan, to join her husband, who was serving there. He retired from the Army in 1961 and the couple moved to Washington, N.C. In 1978 they moved to Jupiter, Fla.
In 1993, Mrs. Buck became a founding member of The Cypress of Hilton Head. She was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church and the Daughters of The American Revolution.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn B. Moore of Hilton Head; a son, Champlin F. Buck III of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Kenton Chickering, of Dallas, Texas, and Edwin S. Chickering of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Burns, Sara M. Nunn, William H. Buck, Christopher B. Buck, Rebecca M. Hamlin and Andrew F. Buck; and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Buck was preceded in death by her husband in 1987 and by a granddaughter, Helen Louise Moore.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Episcopal Church with The Rev. Morey Lent officiating. Interment will be at a later date. She will be buried beside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.

Sandra W. Burgess
Sandra Whittam Burgess, 64, of Moss Creek died Thursday, July 25, at Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics.
Mrs. Burgess was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Donald and Ethyl Phinney Whittam.
She grew up in Greenfield, Mass., and spent the majority of her life in Fairfax, Va.
She moved to Hilton Head Island in 1997.
Mrs. Burgess was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at the University of Maryland, and while in Fairfax she was an interior designer and a licensed Realtor.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband of 41 years, Richard S. Burgess; a daughter, Darrah Leigh Thomas of Warrenton, Va.; a son, Jeffery Dwight Burgess of Warrenton; five grandchildren, J. Ryan, Kathryn, Brett, Alexandra and Michael; and a brother, Donald Whittam of Silver Spring, Md.
Private funeral services will be held by the family on Hilton Head. A date for a celebration of Mrs. Burgess' life will be announced.
