MYRTLE BEACH - Joseph (Tommy) Edmondson, 70, of 508 32nd Ave. North Myrtle Beach, husband of former Union resident Joyce Gregory Edmondson, died Saturday. Funeral services were conducted today. Announcement courtesy of the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Annie H. Cothran
ROCK HILL - Annie Lee Hyder Cothran, 87, of 261 S. Herlong Ave., Rock Hill, died Dec. 2, 2002, at Beverley Heathcare. Mrs. Cothran was a native of Union, a daughter of the late Wilkes Edward Hyder Sr. and Lillian Greene Hyder. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dewitt Dewey Cothran; two daughters, Sadie Hudson and Martha Johnson both of Rock Hill; four brothers, W.E. Hyder Jr., Claude Hyder, Maurice Hyder and Donald Hyder all of Union; four sisters, Minnie Lou Barnette, Lorena Gregory, Vivian Jolly and Cornelia Owing all of Union; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grandview Memorial Park, Hollis Lakes by the Rev. Ken Fetuao. The family will receive friends at the home of her grandson, Alton Johnson, 346 Emma Wood Lane, Rock Hill, today from 4-6:30 p.m. Greene Funeral Home, Rock Hill, has charge of arrangements.
Shonodrequios Good
Shonodrequios Eric Good, infant son of Tonya E. Good, of 583 Rice Ave. Ext. Apt. 3-A, died Nov. 27, 2002. Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Lakendra Good; and two brothers, Jackie and George McBeth of Union.
Graveside services were held Friday at Wyatt Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. J. McDowell. The family is at the home. Union Community Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
M. Elizabeth Sanders
M. Elizabeth Grady Sanders, 69, of 100 Pinedale Ave., widow of Charles Ray Sanders Sr., died Dec. 3, 2002, at 4:30 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Sanders was born in Union County on Feb. 21, 1933, a daughter of Mrs. Joseph Talmadge (Mary Lois) Adams of Jonesville and the late Maurice Grady.
She attended Brown's Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Sanders was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil's Business College of Spartanburg and was formerly employed for 17 years with Cone Mills, Carlisle Finishing Plant and was retired from T.J. International of Oxford, N.C.
Surviving in addition to her mother are a daughter and son-in-law, Anne S. and Steve Fincher of Moore; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Ray Sanders Jr. and Vicki of Union; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and John M. Robinson of Jonesville; and three grandchildren, Charles Ray (Chuck) Sanders III and Ray Scott Sanders both of Union and Stevi Elizabeth Fincher of Moore.
The family will be at the home, 100 Pinedale Ave., Union. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Ronald T. Eubanks
EARL, N.C. - Ronald Terry Eubanks, 44, of Earl, N.C., died Dec. 3, 2002, in Cherokee County. Mr. Eubanks was born in Union County on Dec. 7, 1957, a son of the late Wayne Ronald Eubanks and Betty Jean Roberts. He was a machine operator, was in the Army and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Burch Eubanks; a son, Ronald Wayne Eubanks of Union; a daughter, April Dawn Blackburn of Atlanta, Ga.; a step-daughter and her husband, Christine and Jeremy Buff of Mooresboro, N.C.; a brother, Johnathan Eubanks of Rock Hill; a sister, Patricia Nave of Union; a sister and her husband, Theresia and Donald Howell of Union; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home by the Rev. John Bridges. The family is at the home, 3032 Bettis Road, Earl, N.C. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, Shelby, N.C., has charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth Grady Sanders

Members of the Ruby Davis Sunday School Class are asked to assemble at the church Thursday at 2:45 p. m. to sit in a group. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in church at 2 p.m.. Thursday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 100 Pinedale Ave.
Memorial may be made to the Brown's Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 Brown's Creek Church Road, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Henry Oliver Thomas
BUFFALO - Henry Oliver Thomas, 80, of 3266 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after several years of declining health. Mr. Thomas was born in Chandler, Okla., on Oct. 16, 1922, a son of the late Henry George and Maggie Ruth Thomas of Leadville, Colo.
He was a member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church where he taught the Henry O. Thomas Sunday School Class and was a member of the Chancel Choir for many years. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team, Co. F., 82nd Airborne Division and saw action in Italy and France and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was retired from Life Insurance Co. of Virginia.
Surviving are: his wife of 58 years, Sarah Gibbs Thomas of the home; two daughters, Connie Thomas McCrummen of Aberdeen, N.C., and Dorothy Thomas Duff of Navaree, Fla.; two grandchildren, Clayton Thomas McCrummen of New York City, N.Y., and Audrey Estelle McCrummen of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Doris Jean Bauer of Savonburg, Kan., and Betty Jo Bond of Pueblo, Colo.; four brothers, John Thomas of San Jose, Calif., Kenneth Thomas of Riggins, Idaho, Jerry Thomas of Littleton, Colo., and James Thomas of Englewood, Fla.
Memorial services will be held 2 p. m. Friday at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Phillip Chandler. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buffalo United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 176, Buffalo, S.C., 29321. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Harriette Reed
ANDERSON - Harriette Sexton Sanders Reed, formerly of Atlanta, Ga., Anderson and Frankfort, Ky., passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003, at the Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, Tenn., with her daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Ron Coburn at her side. Harriette was born on Oct. 1, 1914, in Union to Tellie Victoria Sexton and John Walter Sanders. She was married on May 31, 1936, to Lt. Col. Henry McDavid Reed of Anderson.
She is survived by her three children, Col. Henry McDavid Reed II and his wife, Heidi, of Savannah, Ga. and Brussels, Belgium; Rev. Victoria Dodd Reed Bailey and her husband, Jim, of Smithville, Texas, and Nina Deborah Reed Coburn and her husband, Ron, of McCayesville, Ga.; grandchildren, Lt. Col. Henry McDavid Reed III and his wife, Stephanie, stationed at Spangdahlem Air Force Base in Germany, Katja Elaine Reed Lackey and her husband, Jim, of Dover, Del., Alan McDavid Bean of Austin, Texas, Deborah Scott Bean of Austin, Texas, Rebecca Elizabeth Bailey of South Hadley, Mass., and Smithfield, Texas, and Dr. Lara Marie Coburn Clayborn and her husband, William, of Dothan, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Dalton McDavid Reed, Henry Alexander Reed, Graeleigh Reed Lackey, William McDavid Lackey, and William Henry Clayborn; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Katharine Reed of Anderson, sister-in-law, May Sanders of Mountain Home, Idaho; her dear cousin Tuttie Sheorn of Union, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by a grandson, Ronald Coburn Jr. Harriette attended public schools in Union, and graduated from Quitman High School in Quitman, Ga. She briefly attended nursing school and later worked as a playground supervisor in Union. Following her marriage, she became a housewife, mother, and when Henry was called to active duty with the outbreak of World War II, the quintessential Army officer's wife.
Wherever Henry was stationed, from Alaska to Germany and points in between, Harriette created a warm and inviting home. She was a gracious hostess, a marvelous cook, an avid reader and bridge player, and a consummate volunteer. Harriette served countless hours as a Red Cross Gray Lady in military hospitals in Germany, at the VA Hospital in Lexington, Ky., and with blood banks and shelters for flood victims in Frankfort, Ky. She was a Pink Lady at King's Daughters Hospital in Frankfort and at Anderson Medical Center in Anderson.
Harriette was an active member of Officers Wives Clubs and later Federated Women's Clubs wherever she lived. She was proud of her family heritage, and valued her membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Harriette's Christian faith was an important part of her life. She and Henry helped to start the first Methodist church in Gatlinburg, Tenn., when Gatlinburg was just a little mountain town.
She was president of the Women's Society of Christian Service at First United Methodist Church in Frankfort, and she treasured her association with her UMW circle and the Mary O. Holler Class at St. John's United Methodist Church in Anderson until the changes wrought by Alzheimer's Disease made it impossible for her to attend.
A service of Death and Resurrection for Harriette Reed will be held at 11. a.m. on Friday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 515 S. McDuffie St., Anderson, with the Rev. Dr. William Childs officiating. Committal will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at The McDougald Funeral Home, 2211 N. Main, Anderson from 4 until 6 p.m. today.
The family is especially appreciative of the loving care Harriette received during the months she was a resident of the Life Care Center of Copper Basin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Activity Dept., c/o Trilene Suits, Life Care Center of Copper Basin, P.O. Box 518, Copper Basin Industrial Park, Ducktown, Tenn. 37326. The McDougald Funeral Home of Anderson is in charge of arrangements.
Maggie Ree Bell
Maggie Ree Bell, 71, of 126-B Chambers Ave., widow of Ervin T. Bell, died Nov. 29, 2002, at her home after a long illness. She was born in Union County on Oct. 20, 1931, a daughter of the late Clifford and Maggie Young Bell. She was a retired domestic worker and a member of the Rice Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: a daughter, Geneva Bell of Union; a son, Earl Dean (Priscilla) Bell of Gaffney; five sisters, Eunice S. Rankins of Pacolet, Lillian Shippy of Gaffney, Elizabeth Young of East Orange, N.J., Isabelle Murphy of Newark, N.J., Eloise Long of Mt. Claire, N.J.; two brothers, Fred Young of Pauline and Thomas Long of Lyon, Ga., a granddaughter, Shamorris Clowney of Union; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mark Hill Baptist Church in Jonesville with the Rev. Peter Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p. m. Friday to await the hour of service. Viewing and visitation will be until 7 p.m. today and on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The family is at the home, 126-B Chambers Ave. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
