CHERAW - Arie Turnage Bruner, age 93, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 2, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1016 Tec Road, Cheraw, SC, 29520; or Hopsice of Laurens County, P.O. Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325.
Born February 18, 1916 in Cheraw, Mrs. Bruner was a daughter of the late Willie and Hattie McBride Turnage. She was a graduate of Cheraw High School and a retired department store clerk. Mrs. Bruner was the oldest member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Arie was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Bruner; her son, John Thomas Bruner Jr.; two brothers; and four sisters.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty (George) Copeland of Clinton and Billie (Hugh) Branton of Woodstock, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ellen (Lee) Templeton of Clinton and Tracey Wood of Waynesville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Grant Thomas Templeton, Kierstin and Kayla Wood; a sister-in-law, Alieth Bruner of Cheraw; and many special nieces and nephews.
Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield is serving the Bruner family.
Hazel Crowley Therrell
PATRICK - Hazel Crowley Therrell, age 76, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born September 7, 1933, in Chesterfield, Mrs. Therrell was a daughter of the late Norman and Almania Boan Crowley. She was a retired employee of Leggs. Mrs. Therrell was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd W. Therrell; a brother, E.C. Crowley; and by two sisters, Doris Barefoot and Violet Parks.
Surviving are a son, Tony (Renee) Therrell of Patrick; a daughter, Janice Therrell and Wilson Burr of Chesterfield; two grandchildren, Brandy (Jason) Crowley of Chesterfield and Cheska (Rodney) Quick of Cheraw; three great-grandchildren, Brianna and Skylar Lee and Ayden Crowley; two brothers, Jack Crowley of Patrick and Jimmy Crowley of Chesterfield; and a sister, Pat Shaw of Chesterfield.

Lucille L. King
CHERAW - Lucille L. King 90, died Thursday, October 30, 2014. Born in Marion, SC she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ada English Lane. She was the widow of Bill King. Mrs. King was a current employee (starting in October of 1958) of American Stainless and Supply.
Surviving is a niece, Carole (Robert) Forloines of Pittsburgh, PA, great nieces, Kate Passarelli, Matha Forloines, Emily Forloines, great great nephews, Bennett Passarelli and Spencer Passarelli. Also her loving work family at American Stainless.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Eloise Lane Jenkins and Claire Lane Helms.
The family will receive friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Faith Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Church Sanctuary. Burial will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Martha Raye Harris Rogers
CHERAW - Martha Raye Harris Rogers, 76, died Friday, October 24, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC she was the daughter of the late John Karamales Harris and Edith Evelyn Brock Harris Wright. Her family owned and operated the Royal Restaurant in Cheraw for many years. While a student at Cheraw High School she was a member of the Squaws (Lady Braves) Basketball Team. She received a BSN from St. Francis University, Joliet, IL. She was a retired Certificated District School Nurse. She was a member of Cheraw First Baptist and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She had been active in the Adult Choir and the WMU (Director) before her illness. When she lived in Illinois she had served in the Brookfield Baptist Church, as a High School Department Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, and Director of Ladies Programs. She was a member of the Illinois Association of School Nurses, Lakeshore Calumet Valley Division. She had volunteered in the local food pantry and the Cook County immunization children’s clinic.
Surviving is her husband, George Rogers of Cheraw, SC, a son Mark Rogers of Brookfield, IL, a daughter, Kathy (Charles) January of Great Lakes, IL, a sister, Joan Wright (Francis) Chorba, Cheraw, SC and two grandchildren Stephanie and Katherine Rogers, also, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above and a son, Robert David Rogers.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
A funeral service will be held 11:00, Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Cheraw First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Alice Louise 'Alawee' Gibson Tucker
PAGELAND - Alice Louise (Alawee) Gibson Tucker of Pageland, S. C., age 96, passed away on November 1, 2014.
She was born July 4, 1918, in Tatum, S. C., the daughter of the late Henry Grady and Bess Hamer Gibson.
She was a graduate of Laurinburg (N. C.) High School and a 1939 cum laude graduate of Columbia College. She later served the college in a variety of capacities, including president of the Alumnae Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees, and she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.
Following a 1964 fire that destroyed a portion of the campus, she traveled throughout the state to raise money for a rebuilding effort.
Mrs. Tucker was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Pageland and taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. She also served as a deacon. Prior to World War II she was a school teacher, and during the war she served in the American Red Cross Military Welfare Services. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Carl M. Tucker, Jr.
Mrs. Tucker is survived by Two Sons, Carl M. Tucker III of Pageland and his Wife, Linda, and Glenn G. Tucker of Camden and his Wife, Nancy; a Brother, Charles H. Gibson of El Paso, Tex.; Seven Grandchildren: David (Mary Goodloe), Mark (Jennifer), Paul (Kristina), Andrew (Blair), Lauren, Rebecca, and Gibson (Anna); and Seven Great Grandchildren, Clara Elizabeth, Anne Millen Rutland, Davis Hamilton, Gracen Ruth, Adam Engstrom, Emma Louis and Elizabeth.
Family members will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM Sunday, November 2, 2014 at First Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall and following the Graveside Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church on Sunday, November 2, 2014, with Dr. Joel Dale officiating.
Pallbearers were David Tucker, Mark Tucker, Paul Tucker, Andrew Tucker and Gibson Tucker.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 126, Pageland, SC 29728, or to Columbia College, 130 Columbia College Drive, Columbia, SC 29203 or Hospice of Chesterfield County, PO Box 293, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

John 'Jack' Knight Edwards
CHERAW - John “Jack” Knight Edwards, 91, died Saturday, October 11, 2014. Born in Charlotte, NC he was a son of the late Thomas and Ola Wilkerson Edwards. He was the widower of Kathryne Courtney Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was VP of sales for Becker Sand and Gravel as well as a successfully retired businessman. He was a loyal member of First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC.
Surviving are his sons, John Mason Edwards (Susan) of Johns Island, SC, T. Graham Edwards (Dinah) of Isle of Palms, SC, grandchildren, Orrin Baxter Thomas, Jr. (Sharon) of Cheraw, SC, Jason Courtney Thomas of Lenior, NC, Kathryne Thomas Doll(Matt) of Charlotte, NC, Jack Edwards, Jacob Edwards and Joseph Edwards all of Charleston, SC, Courtney Edwards Lowell (Randy) of Columbia, SC and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, a daughter Kathey Knight Edwards Thomas also several brothers.
The family received friends 1:30 PM to2:00 PM, Monday, October 13, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Jesse Lee Howard Sr.
BISHOPVILLE - Jesse Lee Howard, Sr. was born August 28, 1927 in the St. Charles community, Bishopville, SC to the late George II and Annie Carter Howard. He was the stepson of Rebecca Rouse Howard.
Jesse was educated in the Lee County School System. He was a life time member of New Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. As a young man, he served in the US Army and received an honorable discharge. Upon returning home, he married Mary L. Durant, the love of his life for 65 years. God blessed this union with six children. Jesse moved his family to Cheraw, SC where he was employed as a brick mason. He later became employed with Burlington Industries, retiring after twenty years. Following retirement, he returned to Bishopville where he was employed by the city for approximately five years.
Jesse leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Mary; one son, Jesse (Valencia) Howard, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC; four daughters: Hattie Mae (Wilbert) Bums of Cheraw, SC, Jacquelyn Howard of the home, Teresa Ann (Lucious) Fortune and Tulula V. (Earl) Wright, both of Bishopville, SC; one brother, Rev. Charlie N. (Deloris) Howard of Sumter, SC; one sister, Mary Jane Harry of Ft. Pierce, FL; fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jesse was predeceased by one son, Charlie Lee Howard, and siblings George III, Marie, and Mae Bell.
Jesse, who was known as "Sonny Boy" to some and "Blair" to others, was a man of few words. His speech was soft, his heart was big, and his smile was warm. He was a rambunctious child, a normal teenager, a hard working man, a friend. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring and giving grandpa. Services were held on Monday, October 13, 2014, at 1:00 P.M. at New Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bishopville, SC.
Harvey C. Jones
Colonel, USA (Ret.)
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Colonel Harvey Cooper (“Tom”) Jones, USA Ret. Died on October 15, 2014. Tom was born on February 3, 1924. He was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School and The United States Military Academy at West Point. During his 27 year career in the Army Corps of Engineers he commanded troop units in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam; served as an advisor to the Chinese Army on Taiwan, as military assistant to the Governor of the Panama Canal Zone and was on the staff of the Chief of Staff, US Army at the Pentagon. He retired from the Army in 1969 as the Corp’s New York District Engineer and Supervisor of the Harbor of New York. Tom immediately began a significant second career with Walt Disney Company. In Florida, he was Director of Disney’s cutting edge utility company, then moved to Tokyo to be Disney’s Senior Managing Director for the construction of Tokyo Disneyland. Returning to California, he became VP of Project Management for Walt Disney Imagineering.
Tom and his wife, Martha, settled in Cheraw, SC in 1988. In addition to his multitude of church, club, garden, and history activities, Tom began a third career with the International Executive Service Corps, as a volunteer consultant to Third World countries. He was involved in 13 projects in Brazil, Panama, Columbia, Egypt, and Moldova. In 2009, Tom and Martha moved to Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC and the Aldersgate community became a great joy.
He deeply cherished his associations with the Army and West Point (his greatest influence), his many friends in the West Point class of ’45, Lawrenceville class of ’42, Disney, Cheraw, and Aldersgate. He is remembered as a gentleman, a ready wit, a doer, and a most gracious host.
Tom’s greatest joy was his family. He leaves his wife, Martha Duvall Jones; his children, Harvey C. Jones Jr., Dr. Jeffrey T. Jones, Wendy J. Kuda, Edwin G. Pryor, A. Elizabeth P. Colocci; and twelve grandchildren. He is predeceased by his father, Charles Myers Jones; his mother, Susannah Busbee Jones; and his dear brother, Charles Myers Jones, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at Old St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC on Friday, October 24 at 11 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held in Fellowship Hall at Aldersgate, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25.

Rosemarie LeBeau
CHERAW - Rosemarie LeBeau, 58, died, Monday, October 13, 2014. Born in Worcester, MA she was a daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Mary Margerite Georgette Boudreau Sullivan. She was a Eucharistic Minister of St. Peters Catholic Church. She was a member of the Women’s Club and the Red Hats. She had been a cheerleader and lifeguard. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and painting.
Surviving is her husband, David Charles LeBeau of the home, a son Michael Ryan LeBeau of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Crystal Ann LeBeau Woodley of Elgin, SC, a sister, Georgette Margrette Walsh of Wallace, SC, grandchildren, Carlei, Morgen, Paiten, Rylan and Kaden.
The family received friends starting at 6:00 PM Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. A rosary service was held at 7:00 PM following the visitation.
A funeral mass was held 11:00 AM, Friday, October 17, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial was in Old St. David’s Cemetery.
