WALLACE - Helen M. Lewis, 68, died Sunday, October 13, 2014. Born in Bennettsville, SC she was a daughter of Pauline Smith of Florence, SC and the late Joe Mauldin. She was the widow of Jack Lewis. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and active with the United Methodist Women. She love gardening, spending time with her favorite great grandson, helping elderly people and living life to the fullest.

Surviving is her son Jack Donaven Lewis of Bennettsville, SC, a daughter, Paula (Sam) Diggs of Patrick, SC, her mother listed above, a brother, Gary (Melinda) Smith of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Connie (Donald) Odom of Florence, SC, Gloria Ann McLean of Bennettsville, SC, grandchildren, Lauren Young, Justin Turner and great grandchild Dawson Turner.

The family will receive friends 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday, October 13, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM, Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Bennettsville, SC.

Alice Lucille Myers

PAGELAND - Alice Lucille Myers funeral service was held on Wed., October 15, 2014 at 2PM from the Oro United Methodist Church, Pageland, South Carolina. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Alice was born to the late Adam D. Myers and Alma Rushing Myers on October 21, 1925 in Pageland, SC. She entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, October 10, 2014.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons: Alvin (Dorothy) Myers, Jefferson, SC and Lavon Myers, Pageland, SC; two sisters, Henrietta Covington, Pageland, SC and Eva Rodgers, Brooklyn, NY; eleven grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a special friend, John Kennedy, Brooklyn, NY; two sisters-in-law, Alee Myers, High Point, NC and Eva Myers, Pageland, SC.

CHERAW - Mr. N. L. Oxendine, age 68, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, October 16, 2014.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Westside Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Hunt Family Cemetery in Rowland, NC.
Visitation is from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.
Mr. Oxendine was born December 12, 1945 in Rowland, NC a son of the late Wilton Hunt and Mazola Oxendine. He was a retired supervisor with Carolina Canners with 45 years of service, and a member of Westside BaptistChurch. N. L. enjoyed riding his tractor, fishing, and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his two sons, Jimmy Ray Oxendine and Matthew Wayne “Matt” Oxendine; and two brothers, William Gary Oxendine and Earl Hunt.

Survivors include Wife of 45 years: Sarah Hunt Oxendine of the home; 2 Daughters: Harley Oxendine and Jayda Oxendine of the home; 2 Grandchildren: Kylie Oxendine of Cheraw, SC and Avryl Oxendine of Hartsville, SC; 3 Brothers: E Daniel (Stella) Oxendine of Rowland, NC, John Phillip Oxendine of Elizabethtown, NC and Wilton (Sarah) Hunt, Jr. of Rowland, NC; 1 Sister: Mildred (Ray) Locklear of Laurinburg, NC; Also Nieces and Nephews.

Arnold W. 'Woodie' Wright Jr.

LANGHORNE, Pa. - Arnold W. 'Woodie' Wright Jr. passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, in Langhorne. He was 74.

Born in Shelbyville, Ky. and lived in Langhorne for 30 years, he graduated from Emory University School of Law and Indiana University.

Vice President of Contributions and Civic Affairs, CIGNA and Executive Director, CIGNA Foundation, Mr. Wright was also a lobbyist and attorney.

He served in the Vietnam War, was a member of Mensa International, and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was an avid reader and dog lover.

Son of the late Arnold W. Wright Sr. and Lillian Taylor Wright, and brother of the late Sandra Carita Anderson, Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Gloria Jackson Wright; daughter, Jennifer Kelton Wright; son, Christopher Arnold Wright; aunt, Anne Mae White; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside service were held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11AM from the Mount Mary Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. FLEMMING FUNERALS was in charge,

Mitchell Wayne Cagle

CHERAW – Mitchell Wayne Cagle, 57, died Friday, October 3, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of Janie W. Cagle of Cheraw SC and the late Daniel Mac Cagle. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He loved being with family.

Surviving is his son Timothy Wayne Cagle of Edgemere, MD, a daughter, Wendy M. Teague of Carolina County, MD, his mother listed above, sisters, Mary Glenda Roscoe, Jacqueline D. Cagle both of Cheraw, SC, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father listed above, a brother, David Nolan and a sister, Evelyn Sue Harris.

A memorial service was held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. The family received friends following the service.

Jerry Francis Gardner

WALHALLA – Jerry Francis Gardner, 52, husband of Debbie Collins Gardner, of 111 Remus Drive, Walhalla, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014.

Mr. Gardner was the son of the late William Nelson Gardner Sr. and Joyce Howle Gardner. He was employed by Hydratight and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He attended Turning Point Church of God and was a member of Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge #92.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gardner is survived by his step-daughters: Cassie Rice (Paul Freeman) of Anderson, SC and Alisha Moore (Greg) of Walhalla; grandchildren: Haley Moore, Dylan Moore, and John Paul Freeman; brothers: Nelson Gardner (Kathy) of Seneca, SC, Jeff Gardner (Teresa) of Gibsonville, NC and Scott Gardner and Chris Gardner, both of Chesterfield; sister Sharon Kimrey (Mike) of Cheraw; eleven nieces and nephews; three great nieces and nephews, and his fur baby, Belle.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gardner was predeceased by his nephew, Gabe Gardner.

Legette Jefferson

CHERAW - Legette Jefferson, Jr., 68, of Cheraw, South Carolina

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2 pm from the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cheraw, South Carolina.

Legette was born on March 14, 1946 to the late Legette Jefferson, Sr. and Alice Blakney Jefferson. He departed this life on Saturday, September 27, 2014.

Legette was a 1964 graduate of Gary High School and attended Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College. He was employed by Burlington Industries in Cheraw, SC and retired from BGF Industries, Cheraw, SC, March 2011.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Helen; a son, Larone Barnell, Jefferson, Cheraw, SC; two daughters, Lavonda Carmeal Jefferson, Charlotte, NC and Kathy Greenfield (Tracy), Upper Marlboro, MD; six grandchildren, Larone Barnell Jefferson, Jr., Cheraw, SC, Jasmine Siera Sanders, Tiena Kiera Sanders, Charlotte, NC, Aliya R. Jefferson, Philadelphia, PA, Kacy Greenfield and Kayla Greenfield both of Upper Marlboro, MD; six brothers, William Jefferson (JoAnn) Lawnside, NJ, Gregory Jefferson (Kathleen), Michael Jefferson (Jane), Stacey Jefferson (Sharon), all of Cheraw, SC, Rosell Jefferson, Blythewood, SC and Andy Jefferson, Barstow, CA; five sisters, Valencia Howard (Jesse), Cheraw, SC, Patricia Sellers (Johnnie), Chesterfield, SC, SC, Avie David (Al), Waldorf, MD, Vinnia Jefferson, Upper Marlboro, MD and Susan Coleman, Cheraw, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Melissa K. 'Missy' Johnson

Sunrise: January 11, 1971 ~ Sunset: October 7, 2014

Mrs. Johnson was born January 11, 1971 in Lancaster, SC a daughter of the late Robert Eugene and Jean Diane Oliver Riggan. She was a former employee of Pageland Screen Printers. Missy’s first love was her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies included working in her flowers, dancing, and singing. One of her life’s missions was advocating for Comlex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Surviving is her husband, Barry Alan Johnson; one daughter, Ashley (Billy Knight) Johnson of Jefferson, SC; 2 grandchildren, Ava and Brayden Knight; 1 sister, Doris Taylor of Ruby, SC; 2 brothers, David “George” Oliver of Ruby, SC and Leslie (Misty) Riggan of Myrtle Beach, SC; special aunt, Marcel (Lenson) Sellers of Ruby, SC; nephews, Jeffrey Riggan, Caleb Riggan, Michael (Wendy) Sellers, and David “Pinky” Taylor; nieces, Emma Taylor, Jennifer Sellers, Carly Rollins, and Kelli Funderburk; father-in-law, Harold (Jackie) Johnson of Lugoff, SC; mother-in-law, Margaret Cable of Chesterfield, SC; brother-in-law, Wendell (Janie) Johnson of Cheraw, SC; and sister-in-law, Cynthia (Larry) Sellers of Chesterfield, SC

The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Melissa K. “Missy” Johnson was held at 5:00 P.M. Thursday, October 9, 2014 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. The family greeted friends immediately following the service.

Billy R. Perdue

PATRICK - Mr. Billy R. Perdue, age 61, died Friday, October 10, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 13, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Visitation is from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mr. Perdue was born October 16, 1952 in Patrick, SC a son of Martha Gardner Perdue and the late Reece Perdue. He was a retired employee of A.O. Smith and a member of Patrick Presbyterian Church. Mr. Perdue was a leather craftsman, and enjoyed fishing and his Harley Davidson Motorcycles. In addition to his father, Billy was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara “Cubbie” Tucker.

Survivors include Wife of 36 years: Diane Perdue of the home; 1 Daughter: Megan Perdue of Tuscaloosa, AL; Mother: Martha G. Perdue of Cheraw, SC; and Nieces: Shannon Griggs and Torrie Griggs.

Gloria Jean Harrell Pfeiffer

CHESTERFIELD - Evangelist Gloria Jean Harrell Pfeiffer, 71, of Chesterfield, South Carolina

Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 3 pm from the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Cheraw, South SC. Burial followed in the Timmonsville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Mount Croghan, SC. She died on Saturday, September 27, 2014.

Gloria was born on June 16, 1943 to the late Coleman and Flonnie Joines Harrell in Chesterfield, South Carolina. She attended the Chesterfield County public school system and continued her education at Prairie State College in Chicago, Illinois.

She was employed with the Cook County public school system, retiring with thirty-two years of service. After retirement, she moved to Arizona, and worked another nine years in banking industry. Gloria also attended the Institute of Evangelism, at the Billy Graham Center an affiliation of Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois.

To cherish fond memories: her children, Sonya Pfeiffer (Craig Maye), Goodyear, AZ, John Pfeiffer, Jr. (Rita), Roseville, MI and Derek Pfeiffer (Laceysa), Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Chaderyl Pfeiffer, Chakia Pfeiffer, Chakorion Pfeiffer, all of Goodyear, AZ, Aryanna Pfeiffer, Roseville, MI, Khalil Antoine, San Angelo, TX, Josh Erickson, Brianna Erickson, Kaytlynn Erickson, all of Roseville, MI; five great grandchildren, Chanyce Pfeiffer, Chanelle Pfeiffer, Camiya Pfeiffer, Zyon Pfeiffer, all of Goodyear, AZ and Leanna Pfeiffer of Roseville, MI; companion, John E. Carroll 'Catfish' Rollings

JEFFERSON - Mr. Carroll “Catfish” Rollings, age 73, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Long Branch Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Mr. Rollings was born July 12, 1941 in Lancaster, SC a son of the late James Lewis Rollings and Mary Plyler Broome. He was a retired employee of Martin Erection Company, and a faithful member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Mr. Rollings was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp # 1963, Chesterfield, S.C. Carroll was a member of the Rocky Creek Hunting Club, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with his John Deere Tractors.

Survivors include Wife of 49 years: Patricia M. Rollings of the home; 1 Son: James Edison (Becky) Rollings of Jefferson, SC; 1 Daughter: Carol Ann Rollings of Jefferson, SC; 1 Brother: Fred Lewis (Sarah) Rollings of Lugoff, SC; 5 Grandchildren: Katie (Josh) Whiffen of Lafayette, IN, Nicholas Addington, Kalliope Addington, Mollie Rollings, Cooper Rollings all of Jefferson, SC.
