CHERAW - Dana Curtis McLaurin, 42, died Sunday, June 22, 2014. Born in Chesterfield, SC she was a daughter of Rachel Sellers Curtis of Chesterfield, SC and the late David Legrand Curtis, Sr. Mrs. McLaurin was a TAC Officer with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office. She was a member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church. She was a teacher in Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and AWANA. She enjoyed fishing, watching birds, and camping. She loved spending time with her family.

Surviving is her husband, Bob McLaurin, sons, Phillip McLaurin, David McLaurin all of the home, her mother listed above, a brother, David Legrand Curtis, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC, a sister, Ann Curtis Davidson of Chesterfield, SC, nieces, Miranda Leigh Curtis, Hannah Rae Davidson, nephews, Harlan McLaurin and Liam McLaurin.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Evelyn Melton

CHESTERFIELD - Miss Evelyn Melton, age 76, died Monday, June 30, 2014.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Miss Melton was born October 13, 1937 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Claude Melton and Tonci Lee Chavis Wilkerson. She was a retired employee of Chesterfield Manufacturing Company. Evelyn was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she served as Preschool Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed the outdoors, mowing grass, growing flowers and vegetables, and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was also preceded in death by her brother, Vernon and E.B. Melton; three sisters, Dorothy Belle Melton, Bobbie Jean Melton, and Virginia Melton Oliver.

Survivors include 2 Sisters: Emma Lee Humphries of Sumter SC and Mary Jean Little of Oakboro, NC.

Juliette Ross Pleasant

CHERAW - Juliette Ross Pleasant, 70, died Thursday, June 26, 2014. Born in Wadesboro, NC she was the daughter of the late George Hammond and Jane Baldwin Ross. She was the widow of David Earl Pleasant. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina. She had been a teacher at the Cheraw Academy. Mrs. Pleasant was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church. She had served on the board of St. David’s Day School as Treasurer. She had helped manage the Inn Cheraw and the Cheraw Country Club. She had served as the office receptionist of Cheraw First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Most of all she loved being a grandmother.

Surviving is her son, Ralph G. “Andy” (Lynn Moore) Martin, III, of Charleston, SC, a daughter, Caroline Martin (Tommy) Stokes of Florence, SC, grandchildren, Connor Stokes and Brylee Stokes and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above and a brother, George Hammond Ross, Jr.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 11:00 AM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial was in Old St. David’s Cemetery.

Mabel Brown Seel

GREENWOOD - Mabel Brown Seel, 90, of Greenwood, SC, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late Alan Byrd and Myrtle Alice Melton Brown and the widow of William A. Seel. She was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC. She was a member of the Cheraw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Furman University, and taught sixth grade Math and Science for 30 years. Mrs. Seel was an avid fan of all sports, her favorite teams included Atlanta Braves, Cubs, Duke and recently USA Soccer.

Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. James W. and Amy S. Doares of Greenwood, SC, daughter-in-law, Renie B. Seel of Murrells Inlet, SC, grandchildren, Allison Doares and her fiancé, Andy Sykora, Ashley Doares, Alice Seel, Tricia Seel, great grandchildren, Megan Bowen, Stephen Bowen, Amy Bowen, Austin Bowen, McKenna Doares, Liam “Little Bill” Sykora, Ashton and Peyton Taylor and great great grandchild, Vivian Bowen.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, a son, William A. Seel, Jr., and sisters Peggy Beacham and Lores Baker.

A memorial service was held 11:00 am, Friday, July 4, 2014 in Old Saint David’s Church, 91 Church Street, Cheraw, SC.

Audrey Carter Threadgill

CHERAW - Mrs. Audrey Carter Threadgill, age 83, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at her home.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was from 12:00 – 1:00 PM, Monday, June 30, 2014 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Threadgill was born October 20, 1930 in Hoffman, NC, a daughter of the late Sam Jones Carter and Ollie Virginia Covington Carter. She was a graduate of Morven High School and was a housewife, loving Mom, and MeMa. Mrs. Threadgill was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and attended Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. Audrey enjoyed baking, sewing, shopping, traveling, talking with her friends on the phone, and taking care of her family. In addition to her parents, Audrey was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Virginia Brooks and an infant sister, and two brothers, S.J. and Tilton Carter.

Survivors include Husband of 64 years: H. Frank Threadgill of the home; 1 Son: Daryl (Linda) Threadgill of Easley, SC; 2 Daughters: Hope (Mike) Crawford of Six Mile, SC and Joye (Wayne) Caulder of Cheraw, SC; 5 Grandchildren: Daniel Young, Steven (Ashley) Young, Austin (Karen) Caulder, Garrett Caulder, and Matt (Kathleen) Threadgill; 3 Great Grandchildren: Bennett Caulder and Sean and Jay Threadgill; 1 Brother: Terry (Julia) Carter of McFarlan, NC; 3 Sisters: Eleanor Pesce of Wadesboro, NC, Hazel Caulder of Chesterfield, SC and Ollie Mae Chewning of Wadesboro, NC.

Mr. Frank Edward Joyner
Aug 16, 1936 - Dec 9, 2014

Mr. Frank Edward Joyner was born in Columbia, South Carolina on August 16, 1936 to the late Mr. Ernest and Mrs. Hattie Woodson Joyner. Frank departed this earthly journey on December 9, 2014 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Frank was educated in the public schools of Richland County. In 1955 Frank married the love of his life Mrs. Queen E. Joyner in Columbia, South Carolina.

Frank was fun, outgoing, and full of love. Frank could be found making others laugh with his many jokes or playing poker.

Frank is preceded in death his parents, Ernest and Hattie Woodson Joyner; brother, Major Ernest Joyner; sister, Sherry Joyner Booket; and stepson, Donald Johnson.

Those left to cherish loving memories is his devoted wife, Queen E. Joyner, Columbia, SC; two sons, Frank Edward Beasley and Ernest (Keysha) Joyner; three sisters, Betty Vereen, Helen Bibby, and Dorothy (Bennie) Bracken; three brothers, Harry Joyner, James (Caroyl) Joyner, and Arthur (Michelle) Joyner; and host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Barbara Westre Anderson

CHERAW - Barbara Westre Anderson, 76, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Born in Vermillion, SD she was a daughter of the late Justinus M. and Margurite Walker Westre. Mrs. Anderson was a devout member of St. David’s Episcopal Church. She served as chairman of the altar guild for a number of years and the vestry. She started the prayer shawl ministry (lovingly known as the “Knit Wits”) . She was a past member of the St. David’s School Board. Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Anderson of the home, a son, Gustaf (Gamble) Carl Anderson of Cheraw, SC, daughters, Elizabeth (Andy) Floyd of Stafford, VA, Patricia (Andy) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, a sister, Beverly Hanson of Bella Vista, AR, and five grandchildren.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service, with communion, was held 4:00 PM, Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC.

Donald J. Baker Jr.

CHERAW - Chief Donald J. Baker, Jr. (Ret.), 70, died Monday, June 16, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC he was the son of the late Donald J. and Lores Brown Baker. He was an Eagle Scout, Member of the Order of the Arrow, currently served as the Treasurer of Troup 655 and was on the Board of Review. Mr. Baker was a Past Scout Master. He was a charter Junior member of the Cheraw Rescue Squad. Mr. Baker retired from the Cheraw Fire Department, he had over 38 years of service and served as Chief from 1986 to 2000. He was Past President of the South Carolina Fire Chief Association. He had been an Arson Investigator with the SC Arson Control Team. Mr. Baker served with the Chesterfield County Coroner’s Office, (Deputy Coroner, 2000 to 2002 and Coroner, 2002 to 2008). He was a Mason. Donnie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bluegrass music. Most of all he loved being GAGA to Kody and Elizabeth.

Surviving is his wife, Susan Anderson Baker of Cheraw, SC, a son, Anthony (Lisa) Baker of Rock Hill, SC, a daughter, Treacy (Eric) Bozard of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Kody Bozard and Elizabeth Baker.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A graveside service was held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Chatham Hill Memorial Garden, Cheraw, SC.

Alan Davis

YORK - Mr. Alan Davis, age 61, died Saturday June 14, 2014, after a brief illness.

A memorial service was held at 5:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at First Baptist Church of York, SC.

Visitation was immediately following the Memorial Service at First Baptist Church, York, SC.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in the Evans-Spencer-Robeson Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.

Mr. Louis Alan Davis was born November 22, 1952, in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Betty Ruth Davis Evans. He was owner and operator of A & D Mechanical Services. Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army Veteran in the 82nd Airborne Division, and was a member of First Baptist Church of York SC. Alan was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed yard sales, reading, spending time with his grandchildren, collecting pocket knives, and sharing them as gifts with his sons-in-law and grandson, and was a true “Fix-it-Man”

Survivors include Wife: Barbara McCoy Davis of York, SC; 4 Daughters: Emily Davis (Daniel) Fishman of Fort Mill, SC, Sarah D. (Christopher) Goss of York, SC, Nina (Ryan) Morrison of Rock Hill, SC and Jeannie D. (Daniel) Good of York, SC; 6 Grandchildren: Peyton, Carter, and Drew Morrison, Chloe and Blakely Good, and Sadie Fishman; 1 Uncle: Clyde E. “Buster” Davis of Chesterfield, SC; and 2 Aunts: Sarah D. Polson of Cheraw, SC and Ann D. (Bob) Bellamy of Myrtle Beach, SC.

RUBY - Mr. Christopher “Chris” Melton, age 41, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, June 20, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Melton was born October 20, 1972 in Chesterfield, SC a son of Ricky and Diane Moore Melton. He was a foreman with Hanson Aggregates Southeast with nearly 20 years of service. Chris enjoyed drag racing, go cart racing, motorcycle riding, cooking on the grill, and fishing. He was a true “People Person” and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include Wife: Shannon Oliver Melton of the home; 1 Son: Joshua Melton of Ruby, SC; 1 Daughter: Mallory Melton of the home; 1 Stepdaughter: Amberlynn Oliver of Patrick, SC

3 Grandchildren: Tanner and Madison Melton and Kenlyn Jones; Parents: Ricky and Diane Melton of Ruby, SC; 2 Brothers: Jason (Kristy) Melton of Ruby, SC and Casey (Betty) Melton of Mt. Croghan, SC; 1 Sister: Lorrie Melton of Pageland, SC; 3 Nephews: Patrick Rivera, Trevor Melton, and David Miles; 1 Niece: Tiffany Sullivan.

William D. Sellers Sr.

CHERAW - Mr. William D. Sellers, Sr., age 83, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, June 20, 2014.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Westside Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.

Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Sellers was born August 2, 1930, in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Robert Paul Sellers, Sr. and Elizabeth Gaddy Sellers. He was a retired employee of JP Stevens – Delta Mills with 34 years of service. Mr. Sellers was a longtime faithful member of Westside Baptist Church, where he had served as Deacon and Choir member. He loved to sing and had been a member of several singing groups, including the Ambassador Quartet, the Revelators, and the Pilgrims. William enjoyed baseball and was an avid Braves fan. He also enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, and gardening and riding his tractor. In addition to his parents, William was also preceded in death by his wife Violet Huntley Sellers.

Survivors include 2 Sons: William David Sellers, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC and Charlie Robert (Joyce) Sellers of Cheraw, SC; 1 Daughter: Joni Sellers (John) Anisworth of Cheraw, SC

1 Brother: Robert Paul Sellers, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC; Also 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.
