BETHUNE - Mr. James Daniel “Jimmy” Watkins, age 72, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC. Interment will follow in the Bethune Baptist Church Cemetery, Bethune, SC.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.
Mr. Watkins was born February 19, 1942 in Cassatt, SC a son of the late Adrian Daniel and Margaret Kate Robinson Watkins. He was a retired employee of A. O. Smith. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by two brothers; Wayne and Larry Watkins.
Survivors include Wife: Julia Barrett Watkins of the home; 1 Son: Rev. Troy (Faye) Watkins of Mt. Croghan, SC; 2 Daughters: Tammy (Wayne) Goff of Bethune, SC and Sue Watkins of McBee, SC; 2 Brothers: Basil Watkins of Patrick, SC and Gary Watkins of Kershaw, SC; 2 Sisters: Lenora Stephens of Bethune, SC and Diane Rogers of Cassatt, SC; 8 Grandchildren: Laken (Billy) Moree, Curtis (Heather) Watkins, Darrell (Crystal) Goff, April (Jason) Bowers, Richie (Amber) Goff, Casey (Angela) Whitaker, Amber (DJ) Goff, and Kelvin Watkins; and 10 Great Grandchildren: Nate, Emma, Maddi, Cole, Payton, Chloe, Brylee, Emily, Eli, and Bella.

Kenneth 'Zeke' Clifton Alford
CHERAW - Kenneth “Zeke” Clifton Alford, 58, died Thursday, May 29, 2014. Born in Bennettsville, SC he was the son of the late Elwood and Ella Louise Ammons Alford. He was a 1974 graduate of Cheraw High School and the President of the Student Body. He was a 1981 graduate of Coker College (BA in English and Political Science) and was a student representative on the Board of Trustees. Mr. Alford was a 1988 graduate of Francis Marion University (M. Ed. Language Arts). He had worked for Marlboro County Schools and Northeastern Technical College, Cheraw, SC. During his tenure at NETC he had received an award for Administrator of the Year from the South Carolina Technical Education System. He retired in 2013. He was an active member of Saint David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC, where he had served as Men’s Club President, a recurring member of Vestry, Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer. He was a former Board Member of the Cheraw Arts Commission. Zeke was a water color artist and enjoyed cooking, reading, canine rescue and spending time at Myrtle Beach, cultivating friendships. His musical interest included Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, The Eagles, John Prine and Jackson Browne.
Surviving is his wife Charlotte Tuck Alford of the home, step-mother, Hilda Alford, sisters, Renee (Jimmie) Alford Creech, Delores “Lobie” (Rick) Alford Hammond all of Cheraw, SC, Nieces and nephews, Lynn Creech, Lisa (Bryan) Crawford, Lori (Scott) Phillips, David (Shelley) Morgan, great niece and nephew, Tucker B. Douglas and Carly C. Douglas.
A memorial service was held 4:00 PM Sunday, June 1, 2014 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC. The family received friends following the service. An inurnment service was held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Old Saint David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.

Nora Gulledge Crowley
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Nora Gulledge Crowley, 83 of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Her death follows a five year period of declining health. She was born in Chesterfield County, S.C., a daughter of the late William Harley and Sara Jane Brock Gulledge. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; Johnnie William Crowley who died in 1991, a granddaughter; Dana Robinson, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Mrs. Crowley was employed at Cannon Mills, Plant #6 weave room from 1963 to 1978. She was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and canning vegetables. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and especially loved her Lord.
Funeral services for Mrs. Crowley were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Parkwood Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Waters, Rev. Darrell Coble, and Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The family received friends at the church prior to the services from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. A second service was held at 4:00 PM on Saturday at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, SC. With Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The family will receive friends prior to services at the church from 3:30 to 4:00 PM. Burial will follow in Bethesda United Methodist Church cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter; Linda Crowley Sides and husband Butch of Concord, 4 sons; Bobby L. Crowley of Kannapolis, Harold W. Crowley and wife Judy of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Steve Crowley and wife Cathy of Concord, and Gene W. Crowley and wife Rebecca of Monroe, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, and a sister; Temple Bell Teal of Cheraw, SC.
The family suggest memorials be made to: Parkwood Baptist “Love Concord” mission outreach at 1069 Central Dr. NW, Concord, NC 28027.

Trace MacPherson Shipley
CHERAW - Trace MacPherson Shipley, 14, died Friday, May 30, 2014. Born in Florence, SC he was a son of Joe (Anissa) Shipley and Tracie (Scott) Douglas. Trace was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and watersports. He played soccer and baseball. He had an infectious smile and a warm and loving heart.
Surviving is his mother Tracie (Scott) Douglas, father Joe (Anissa) Shipley, brother, Bryce Shipley, sister, AnaclaireShipley all of Cheraw, SC, maternal great grandmother, Christine McPherson of Cheraw, SC, maternal grandparents, Linda M. Quick of Cheraw, SC, Larry Cassidy of Maggie Valley, NC, paternal grandmother, Ann Shipley of Cheraw, SC, step-brothers, Preston Keith of Valdosta, GA, Noah Keith, Tucker Douglas and a step-sister, Carly Douglas all of Cheraw, SC. Also, many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mackie J. Shipley and maternal great grandfather Charles H. McPherson.
The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Long Middle School (Gym).
A funeral service was held 1:00 PM, Monday, June 2, 2014 at Cheraw First Baptist Church. A committal service followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Ronald Edward Chapman
SOCIETY HILL – Ronald Edward Chapman, 74, died Sunday, May 18, 2014. Born in Society Hill, SC he was a son of the late James Coit and Beaulah Renoylds Chapman. He was the widower of Grace Driggers Chapman. He enjoyed fishing, working on his tractor and growing a garden. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved to watch Westerns on TV and taking care of his family and friends.
Surviving are his daughters, Debra (Roger) Oxendine of Society Hill, SC, Carol (Bobby) Purvis of Society Hill, SC, Rhonda (Theo) Lindsey of Cheraw, SC, sisters Clara Kenny of New Rochelle, NY, Martha Ann Gardner of GA, grandchildren, Bryan (Christy) Chapman, Roger (Josette) Oxendine, Jr., Jason (Kacee) Purvis, Melissa Chapman, Joseph Purvis, Rebecca Lindsey, Jacob Lindsey, great grandchildren, Alyssa Chapman, Journey Chapman, Wyatt Purvis, Talon Oxendine, Leah Purvis and Coit Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, also, a brother, James Coit Chapman Jr., sisters, Virginia Dailey, Ruth Dailey, Betty Potter and Mary Cottingham.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the home of Debra Oxendine.
A funeral service was held 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Welch Neck Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Robert Lazell Douglas
CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Robert Lazell Douglas, age 84, died, Saturday, May 24, 2014.
Visitation was from 3:00 – 4:00 PM, Monday, May 26, 2014, prior to the service in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
A funeral service was held at 4:00 PM, Monday, May 26, 2014 at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.
Mr. Douglas was born June 17, 1929, in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Thomas Hough Douglas and Laura McNair Douglas. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, and upon his graduation he joined the SC National Guard and served for 21 years. Mr. Douglas owned and operated Burch & Douglas Grocery for 30 years. After selling his business he worked with INA Bearing for 15 years. Lazell was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, the Men’s Club, and was former chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Douglas was a former member of the Chesterfield County Board of Education and was a precinct poll manager for many years. Lazell was an avid NASCAR and Atlanta Braves fan, loved gardening, and always put his family and friends before himself. In addition to his parents, Lazell was also preceded in death by his lovely wife, Mary Edwards Douglas, sisters, Velma Burch, Monte Ballard, and Volie Douglas, and by his brothers, Chelsea Douglas, T. H. Douglas, and Pavo Douglas.
Survivors include 2 Daughters: Ann Douglas Horner and husband, Albert Leon Horner, Jr. of Douglas, GA, and Robin Douglas Griggs and husband Alfred Woodrow Griggs of Darlington, SC, 2 Grandsons: Albert Leon Horner III of Valdosta, GA. and Robert Benjamin Horner and wife Patricia Mares Horner of Douglas, GA, 2 Great Grandchildren: Karah Horner and Kason Horner of Douglas, GA; Sister: Flora Hendrix of Decatur, GA; Sister-in-law: Shirley Douglas of Chesterfield, SC; Life long Friend, John A. Malloy; Also many Nieces and Nephews

Furman Norris Gaddy
WADESBORO – Mr. Furman Norris Gaddy, 81, died Friday, May 23, 2014, at his home.
Funeral services were 3:00 PM Sunday in Lilesville Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Lawson officiating. Interment followed in Anson Memorial Park Cemetery. The family greeted friends in the fellowship hall one hour prior to the service.
Furman was born in Anson County on September 1, 1932, a son of the late Jesse David and Bessie Mae Meeks Gaddy. He retired as a Captain from the US Army in 1973; from Environmental Tech as a wastewater consultant in 1986 and finally from the Anson County Wastewater Treatment Facility in the late 1990’s. He was a member of Lilesville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of the home; a step-son, Charlie Horne; and four grandchildren, Chase and Graham of the home and Kaydon and Easton of Lilesville. Also surviving is a brother, George Gaddy of Ansonville and four sisters, Mary Ruth Newton, Ila Grace Boyd, and Brenda Sue Collins all of Cheraw, SC and Clarice Martin of Ansonville.

CHERAW – Wilma Atlas Tucker Loflin, 72, died Monday, May 12, 2014. Born in Society Hill SC she was a daughter of the late John Wilson and Julia Rezell Keith Tucker. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. She enjoyed music, baking, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, Julius Raymond Loflin, Sr. of Cheraw, SC, a son Julius Raymond “Ray” Loflin, Jr. of Cheraw, SC, brothers, Buddy Tucker of Bennettsville, SC, Randy (Patty) Tucker of Society Hill, SC. Francis (Joni) Tucker of Society Hill, SC, sisters, Gladys (Don) Stephens of Fort Mill, SC, Lola (Wayne) James of Hartsville, SC, Carolyn (Courtney) Stokes of Society Hill, SC, sister-in-law, Lois Tucker of Society Hill, SC and a brother-in-law, Allen Poston, Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Corbin Ray Loflin of Jacksonville, NC and Leslie N. Waters of Chesterfield, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above, a brother, Buck Tucker and a sister, Lois Poston.

Kimberlee White Polson
SIMPSONVILLE – Kimberlee White Polson, 50, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of Marie (Roger) Poston White Seals of Cheraw, SC and the late Charles Ray White. She was a graduate of Cheraw High School and Francis Marion University. Kim’s first job after college was as a Social Worker with Chesterfield General Hospital, Cheraw, SC. Mrs. White worked for the Greenville County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs (20 plus years) as a supervisor of Early Intervention. Her passion was always for children and she supported the efforts of St. Jude’s Hospital. She was an avid reader and an accomplished musician. She loved and cared for others and her smile would light up a room. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister.
Surviving is her husband of 21 years, Bryan L. Polson of the home, a daughter Madeline Rae Polson of the home, her mother listed above, a sister Hope (Andy) White English of Cheraw, SC, mother-in-law, Sylvia Stafford Polson, brother-in-law Joey Polson of Cheraw, SC and sister-in-law, Cindy Polson Moore of Greer, SC, a niece and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father listed above, maternal grandparents, Bailey and Lucy Poston and paternal grandparents, John and Virginia White.
A memorial service was held graveside 2:00 PM Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC. The family received friends at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens following the service.
Willie Lee Roscoe
CHERAW – Willie Lee Roscoe, 78, died Friday, May 16, 2014. Born in Chesterfield, SC he was the son of the late Willie and Nellie Brock Roscoe. He was a Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and attended Anointed Word Ministry.
Surviving is his son, Jody (Stephine) Michael Roscoe of Portland, OR, a daughter, Dena Leigh Gulledge of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Beulah (Tavner) Threatt of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren, Dakotah Gulledge, Micayla Covington, Ysabella Gulledge, Malachi Roscoe, Maudilee Roscoe and Nehemiah Roscoe.

CHERAW - Norbert Ernst Kaltwang, 73, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Born in Furth, Germany he was the son of the late Ernst and Maria Troeger Kaltwang. Norbert was Lutheran. He worshiped with his family at Cheraw Family Worship Center. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time and laughing with his boys and grandchildren, friends from his homeland and with co-workers from INA.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy Junene Kaltwang of Cheraw, SC, sons, Scott (Tanja) Kaltwang of Boiling Springs, SC, Martin (Kathryn) Kaltwang of Williamsburg, VA, Michael (Gena) Kaltwang of Ruby, SC, a sister, Erika (Hans) Fuersattel of Harwinton, CT, grandchildren, Kaleb, Morgan, Christopher, Emma, Autumn and Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and a granddaughter, Maria Kaltwang.
