CHERAW - Mr. Silas D. “Bubba” Jones, age 71, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 11, 2014 at North Cheraw Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones was born September 7, 1942 in Bennettsville, SC a son of the late Silas Epton and Juanita Brown Jones. He was a former mechanic with Bud Motor Company and a retired fork lift mechanic with Carolina Canners, with 27 years of service. Bubba was a U.S. Army Veteran and attended North Cheraw Baptist Church. Bubba loved life and enjoyed cars, drag racing, playing golf, fishing, dancing, music, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include Wife of 50 years: Sue Jordan Jones of the home; 1 Son: Silas Douglas Jones, Jr. of Cheraw, SC; 1 Daughter: Sheila Jones (Billy) Amick of Cheraw, SC; Grandchildren:
Zachary Lee Jones, Gracen Elise Jones, and Thomas Allen Jones; 1 Sister: Marion Jones (Jimmy) Thompson of Cheraw, SC; Mother-in-law: Jessie Mae Jordan of Cheraw, SC; Also several Nieces and Nephews.

Larry C. Maynor
CHERAW - Larry C. Maynor, 64, died Friday, April 11, 2014. Born in Troy, NC he was a son of the late James Franklin and Tiny Mae Chappel Maynor. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and fishing.
Surviving is his wife Linda O. Maynor of Cheraw, SC, a son, John Tracy (Jamie) Maynor of Dallas, TX, a daughter, Susie (Ricky) Pace of Cheraw, SC, brothers, William (Jeannie) Maynor of Sanford, NC, John Frank Maynor of Lakewells, FL, Mark Maynor of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Erica Pace, Morgan Tucker, Kellam Maynor, great grandchildren, Eryne McLaughlin, Logan Owens, Haven Owens, Thorn Tucker and Lawton Tucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above and a sister, Brenda Nadeau.
The family will receive friends 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.

Juanita Loflin 'Bootsie' Rivers
PATRICK - Mrs. Juanita Loflin “Bootsie” Rivers, age 76, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Friday, April 11, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Brock’s Mill Baptist Church Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.
Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rivers was born August 24, 1937 in Cheraw, SC a daughter of the late Jack and Edell Parr Loflin. She was a former waitress and a retired employee of Hardee’s. Juanita was a member of North Cheraw Baptist Church.
Survivors include 2 Sons: Henry E..“Gene” (Donna) Wallace, III of Patrick, SC and Jackie L. (Bonita) Threadgill of Patrick, SC; 1 Brother: Tommy (Audrey) Warren of Rockingham, NC
1 Sister: Yvonne Loflin (Tommy) Frazier of Bennettsville, SC; Also 4 Step Grandchildren and 3 Step Great Grandchildren.

Clarence J. 'C.J.' Short
BENNETTSVILLE - Mr. Clarence J. “C.J.” Short, age 90, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Interment will follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC, with Military Honors
Visitation is from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Short was born July 11, 1923 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Farris Henry and Pearl Therrell Short. He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Short was a member of the Bennettsville Church of God. Clarence loved his dog Bear, and enjoyed gardening and talking with his friends. In addition to his parents, Clarence was also preceded in death by his son, Jack Short; and sisters, Nathalie S. Caulder, Mildred S. Caulder, and Lila Mae S. Grant.
Survivors include 1 Daughter: Connie Thompson of Wallace, SC; 6 Grandchildren: Donnie Short, Kevin Short, Jeff Chavis, Tori Chavis, Keeley Sutton, and Randa Sutton; Also 4 Great Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews.

W.C. Stanton
CHERAW - W.C. Stanton, 87, died Monday, April 7, 2014. Born in Little Rock, SC he was a son of the late Hugh C. and Katie Margaret Jones Stanton. He was the founder and president of Stanton Quilting Company. Mr. Stanton has served on the Board of Trustees of Francis Marion University since 1994. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Francis Marion University. He was US Army Veteran. He was a past chairman of the board for the Chesterfield General Hospital, Cheraw, SC. He was a Mason, Lodge 15. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a bluegrass enthusiast and an avid golfer. He was known for his wit and homespun sayings, notably he would state, “ I am a High School drop-out, that devoted my life to education.”
Surviving is his wife, Sara Margaret McDougald Stanton of Cheraw, SC, sons, David Stanton of Columbia, SC, Clyde (Regina) Stanton of Birmingham, AL, Hugh (Jennie) Stanton of Florence, SC, grandchildren, David Stanton, Wilson Stanton, Kate Stanton, and Michael Stanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, a son, Kinney Stanton, a grandson, Alexander Stanton, brothers, Tom Stanton and Hugh Stanton.
The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.
A funeral service was held 3:00 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.
Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

William 'Bill' Edward West
CHERAW - William “Bill” Edward West, 76, died Monday, April 07, 2014. Born in Boston, MA he was a son of the late Richard L. and Dorothy A. Lyons West. He was a Secretary of the Cheraw Rotary Club. He was a Board Member of the Mercy in Me Free Medical Clinic. Mr. West had been involved in industrial construction during his professional career, working for Fru-Con Construction and Voss International. He also started his own business Lloyd West Construction and was currently working with Henley Construction. His myriad of projects, of which, included, pipelines, power plants, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, carried him to Alaska, Singapore, and all across the continental United States. Mr. West was a US Army Veteran.
Surviving is his wife, Melodie “Mel” West of Cheraw, SC, sons, Shawn (Jennifer) West of Sugar Land, TX, Jon (Sandra)West of Corpus Christi, TX, step-daughter, Brittany Springs of Cheraw, SC, brothers, Robert G. (Sheila) West of Westwood, MA, Joseph R. West of Norwood, MA, sisters, SR. Virginia Marie West of Winter Park, FL, grandchildren, Ann Marie West, Jon West, Jacob West, Dylan West, Emma West and Chelsee Springs, also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, a brother Richard L, West, Jr. and a sister, SR. Mary West.
The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home. A rosary followed the visitation.
A funeral mass was held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC.
A committal service was held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the Riverside Cemetery, Nichols, SC.

Charles Alton Johnson
CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Charles Alton Johnson, age 79, died Thursday, April 3, 2014.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Hopewell Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation was immediately following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
Mr. Johnson was born December 20, 1934 in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Walter Harley and Minnie Huggins Johnson. He was a 1956 graduate of Chesterfield High School and was a retired partner in West End Auto Sales. Charles was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as former deacon and was a member of the choir. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Charles enjoyed golfing, early morning walks, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include Wife: of 53 years Carol Outen Johnson of the home; 1 Son: Chuck (Leanna) Johnson of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Daughter: Casey Johnson Moore of Chesterfield, SC; 4 Grandchildren: Colt Deberry, Briana Rushing, Emily Gaskins, and Cayleigh Johnson; 2 Brothers: George Johnson of Cheraw, SC and Olin D. Johnson of Hartsville, SC; 5 Sisters: Eva Brigman of Indian Land, SC, Aletha Moore of Chesterfield, SC, Sadie (Al) Rudelic of Murrells Inlet, SC, Linda (Sandy) Taylor and Janice (Rev. Gerald) Rivers of Chesterfield, SC; Son of the Heart: Joel Lisenby; and Special Niece: Donna Curtis.

James Leonard Poston
CHERAW - James Leonard Poston, 75, died Monday, March 31, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of the late James Bailey and Lucy Grooms Poston. He was retired from J.P. Stevens/Delta Mills, Inc. (40 years of service).He was a graduate of Cheraw High School where he was a band member and First Drum Major. Prior to becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC, he was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, SC where he had served as a Certified Lay Speaker from 1984-1990, Lay Leader to the annual United Methodist Church Conference, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairperson of the Administrative Council, Youth Director and President/Chairperson of the Fall Festivals. Mr. Poston had served in the South Carolina National Guard.His hobbies included gardening/landscaping, floral designing, cooking, collecting recipes and music. Most of all he enjoyed his many beach trips and spending time with family.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Vivian Q. Poston, a daughter, Selene Poston Clinkscales of Cheraw, SC, a son, Leonard Marlin Poston of North Augusta, SC, sisters, Nellie Mae Quick, Marie Poston Seals both of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Ethan Poston Clinkscales of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Nicholas Bailey Poston of North Augusta, SC and many nieces and nephews.Also, family at heart, Ray and Julia Hayes of Cheraw, SC and Jamie Notareschi of Little River, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, a son, Leonard Monte Poston, and a brother, James Hamer Poston.
The family received friends 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. A funeral service was held 5:00 PM Thursday, April 3, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. A committal service will be held in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens following the service.

Barbara Chewning Griggs
DARLINGTON - Mrs. Barbara Chewning Griggs, age 77, formerly of Chesterfield, SC and Spartanburg, SC died Friday, March 21, 2014.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Interment will follow in the Ruby Cemetery, Ruby, SC.
Visitation is from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2014, prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Griggs was born September 16, 1936, in Wadesboro, NC, a daughter of the late David Earl Chewning, Sr. and Lula Hunt Chewning. She was a 1954 graduate of Chesterfield High School, where she played basketball. Barbara was a former bank teller and a retired inventory accountant with Union Camp Co.
She enjoyed reading and singing. In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. “Mike” Griggs, her daughters Susan Elizabeth Griggs and Harriet Griggs Huntley, and by her brother, David Earl Chewning, Jr.
Survivors include a Son: James Michael “Jimmy” Griggs and his wife Jurai Griggs of Thailand; 3 Grandchildren: William Austin (Erin) Huntley, Jennifer Griggs and Jessica Griggs; Great Grandchild: Aubree Huntley; Sister: Charlena Chewning of Darlington, SC.

Blanche Crain Robertson
CHERAW - Blanche Crain Robertson, 94, died Sunday, March 16, 2014. Born in Greenville County she was the daughter of the late Clois and Pauline Parker Crain and the widow of Royal Robertson. She was a member of Locust Hill Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, SC.
The family received friends 11:00 am Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Woodlawn Memorial Park. A funeral service was held at 11:30 am following the visitation.
Surviving are her son, Dr. Jerry (Barbara) Robertson of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, a daughter-in-law, Joyce Robertson of Florida, a grandchild, Anthony “Tony” Robertson of Florida and a great grandchild, Lindsey Robertson.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above and a son Rodger L. Robertson.
