MT. CROGHAN - Mr. Lawrence Edward Phillips, age 86, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014.
A private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Phillips was born September 11, 1927 in Mt. Croghan, SC a son of the late Kemp Huntley Phillips and Willie Mae Sims Phillips. He was a graduate of Kings Business College and was a former Terminal Manager with Hennis Trucking Company in Ruby, SC. Lawrence was a retired inspector with Pageland Screen Printers. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of Salem Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Swett Phillips; his daughters, Jane Douglass, Beverly Gulledge, and Cathy Evans; and a grandson, Jamie Douglass.
Survivors include 2 Sons: Michael (Vicki) Phillips of Mt. Croghan, SC and Edward (Sherrie) Phillips of Cheraw, SC; Also 9 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great, Great Grandchild.

Betty Lou Hall
CHERAW - Mrs. Betty Lou Hall, age 78, died Friday, February 7, 2014.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Interment followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.
Visitation was from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2013, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hall was born September 15, 1935 in Wadesboro, NC a daughter of the late Kenny Lee and Mary Honeycutt Driggers. She was a graduate of Cheraw High School and was a clerk at Wal- Mart for the past 25 years. Mrs. Hall was a member of First Baptist Church of Cheraw, where she was a member of the Faith and Hope Sunday School Class. Betty enjoyed baking cakes, traveling, especially to the Amish Country, and was a huge Elvis Pressley fan. In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. “Bobby” Hall, a granddaughter, Brooke Burch, a brother, Bobby Driggers, and by a sister, Clara Mae Driggers.
Survivors include 2 Daughters: Susan (Johnny) Hayes of Cheraw, SC and Barbara (Ellis) Burch of Chesterfield, SC; 2 Grandchildren: Nicholas “Nick” (Brandie) Hayes and John Christopher (Dana Clark) Hayes; 3 Great Grandchildren: Skylar Burch, Blane Hayes and Harrison Hayes.
1 Brother: Lee Roy Driggers of Wallace, SC; Special Niece: Mary D. Gaskins; Special Friends: Linda Johnson and Bessie Matthews.

Daniel 'Dan' Marsh
CHERAW - Daniel “Dan” Marsh, 52, died Sunday, February 16, 2014. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of Joe and Dare Morris Marsh of Cheraw, SC. First and foremost he was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He was a member and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. He was a graduate of Presbyterian College and was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity (PC). Mr. Marsh was the Environmental Health and Safety Manager of INA Schaeffler Group, Cheraw, SC. He enjoyed collecting antiques, Carolina Gamecock Football and most of all, time spent with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife Kaye Bunch Marsh, daughters, Hannah Paige Marsh, Rachel Virginia Marsh, Rebecca Alison Marsh all of Cheraw, SC, his parents listed above, brothers, Glenn (Emily) Marsh and Douglas (Susan) Marsh all of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Dinah (Graham) Marsh Edwards of Isle of Palms, SC and Dee Dee (Dave) Marsh Evans of Pinopolis, SC.
A funeral service was held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC.

James Fletcher Motley
PATRICK - Mr. James Fletcher Motley, age 85, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014.
A graveside service was held at 1:00 PM, Monday, February 24, 2014 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC with Military Honors.
Mr. Motley was born April 12, 1928 in Patrick SC a son of the late James Knowlton Motley and Ellen Juanita Winburn Motley. He was a retired foreman with the SCDOT with 34 years of service. Fletcher was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was proud to have served his country. He was a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, Fletcher was also preceded in death by his sister, Jeannie M. Catoe; and two brothers, J. K. Motley Jr. and Roger Motley.
Survivors include 1 Brother: Campbell (Linda) Motley of Williamsburg, VA; Also a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Lois Beatrice Ratliff
RUBY - Mrs. Lois Beatrice Ratliff, age 87, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at her home.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at White Oak Presbyterian Church. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Saturday, prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
Mrs. Ratliff was born September 2, 1926 in Ruby, SC a daughter of the late Florence E. Oliver and step daughter of the late Ross Oliver. She was a homemaker and farmer, and attended Douglas Mill Baptist Church. Beatrice enjoyed shopping, cooking, gardening, and fishing. In addition to her parents, Beatrice was also preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel “Doll” Ratliff; her son and daughter in law, Dalton and Pat Ratliff; a daughter, Ellen Ratliff Hart; grandson, Shane Ratliff; and by 2 sisters, Trudy Jacobs and Grace Harley.
Survivors include Daughter: Frances “Punk” Ratliff (Ken) Mills of Fort Mill, SC; 8 Grandchildren: Terri Niven, Ginger (Dale) Aubertine, Tonya (Jarrod) Holler, Phillip (Samantha) Hart, Tricia (Chris) Foster, Brandy (Keith) Leggett, Brady Mills, and Chad (Ginni) Ratliff; Granddaughter-in-law: Rebecca Ratliff; Also 22 Great Grandchildren

John Harrison Sartor Sr.
CHERAW - John Harrison Sartor, Sr., 81, died Sunday, February 16, 2014. Born in Alabama he was the son of the late Henry Harrison and Sadie Howle Sartor. He was a charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. Mr. Sartor was an avid fan of the Cheraw Braves and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. He received an athletic scholarship and played for the Gamecocks in the 1952 and ’53 seasons. He was the play by play announcer for Cheraw High School, covering football, baseball and girls softball. He was a referee for the Cheraw Parks and Recreation Department (football, baseball and softball). He enjoyed playing golf with his friends.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Wanda Rollins Sartor, a son John (Faye) Harrison Sartor, Jr., a daughter, Susan S. Davis all of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren John Harrison Sartor, III, Matthew Robert Sartor and James Christian Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and a son-in-law, Freddie Davis.
The family received friends 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in the fellowship hall of Faith Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. A funeral service was held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in the sanctuary of Faith Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Randy Wayne Stanley
WEST COLUMBIA - Mr. Randy Wayne Stanley, age 54, died Saturday, February 15, 2014.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 21, 2014, at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Stanley was born October 20, 1959 in Norfolk, VA a son of the late William Augustus and Delphia Elizabeth McLain Stanley. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and Chesterfield – Marlboro TEC. Randy received an associate degree, and was a former LPN.
Survivors include 1 Son: Nathan (Julia) Stanley of Summerville, SC; 1 Daughter: Miranda (Fred) Delehoy of Cheyenne, WY; Sister: Ann Stanley (Rick) Harris of Murrells Inlet, SC
2 Nephews: Dr. Andrew (Whitney) Harris and Dr. Christopher (Johanna) Harris; Also: Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Novella “Bibbie” Hurst Watson
RUBY - Mrs. Novella “Bibbie” Hurst Watson, age 82, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at her home.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Ruby Baptist Church.
Interment was a private family service in the Watson Cemetery.
Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Tuesday, prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
Mrs. Watson was born February 10, 1932 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late William F. and Annie Marie Melton Hurst. She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Challenger with 34 years of service. Bibbie was a member of Ruby Baptist Church and loved her Lord and her family very much. She was known in the community for her delicious cooking, especially her biscuits, pecan pies, chicken and dumplings, and banana pudding. She loved to minister to the sick and shut-ins in the community with her cooking. Bibbie will be sorely missed by all. In addition to her parents, Bibbie was also preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Watson, a son, Lonnie Wayne Watson, her 4 brothers, Astor, Robert, Lawson, and Carson Hurst, and by her 6 sisters, Osabelle, Aletha, Alberta, Estelle, Dorothy, and Cleo.
Survivors include Husband: Charles S. Smith of the home; 1 Son: Jerry (Grayson) Watson of Cheraw, SC; 3 Daughters: Judy Watson (Roy) Owens of Lugoff, SC, Barbara (Rick) Leihgeber of Sevierville, TN, and Diane Watson (Charles) Finch of Cheraw, SC; Daughter-in-law: Martha Watson of Pageland, SC; Also 15 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren.

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Ruth Harrington Adams, age 85, died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at her home.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the David’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 15, 2014, prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Adams was born December 31, 1928, in Wadesboro, NC, a daughter of the late John Ross Harrington and Ethel McKnight Harrington Melton. She was a homemaker and for many years was a child care provider in her home.
Ruth was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Murrie M. Adams and by her sister, Betty H. Soloman.
Survivors include Son: Ronald “Ronnie” M. Adams and his wife Teresa Diane Adams of Chesterfield, SC; 3 Grandchildren: Cierra Jade Adams, Chris (Kristen) Guinn, and Rhonda Guinn; 4 Great Grandchildren: Ava Guinn, Taylor Guinn, Kohana Jacobs, and Mason Rollings, who is on his way; Also Nieces and Nephews.

Lynn Teal Armstrong
CHERAW - Lynn Teal Armstrong, 61, died Monday, February 10, 2014, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P. M., on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial, will follow at Lake City Cemetery, Lake City.
Mrs. Armstrong was born February 2, 1953, in Lake City, a daughter of William T. “Tom” Teal and the late Lula Jo Carraway Teal. She was a graduate of Winyah High School, Georgetown, SC, Emmanuel College of Franklin Springs, GA and The Baptist College, Charleston, SC. Lynn worked in the Social Services Dept. at Daymark Recovery Services in Wadesboro, NC and attended Maranatha Family Center Church in Cheraw. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, an accomplished pianist and breast cancer survivor of two years.
Survivors include her husband, Butch Armstrong, of the home; two sons, B.J. (Mary Ann) Armstrong of Columbia and Kevin Armstrong of Cheraw; grandchildren, Aubry Armstrong and Andrew Armstrong; father, William T. “Tom” Teal of Georgetown; brothers, William T. “Jimmy” (Diane) Teal of Easley and Russell Glenn Teal of Charlotte, NC; a special aunt and uncle, John and Margie Altman and special friend, Geraldine Harrelson.
Memorial may be made to Maranatha Family Center Church, 66 Praise Lane, Cheraw, SC 29520.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care provided by the McLeod Regional Medical Center ER and Chesterfield General Hospital ER.
Gene Stratton Murphy
FLORENCE - Gene Stratton Murphy, 78, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House.
Mr. Murphy was born in Norton, VA, a son of the late Mitchell K. “M.K.” Murphy and Ada Bruce Hartsock Murphy. He was a member of Quinby Baptist Church, the D.A.V. and Woodmen of the World. He was a former member of American Legion Post #160. Mr. Murphy retired from the US Marine Corp and had also served in the Air Force. Since 1975 he had worked with the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-three years, Lou Murphy; son, Michael (Michelle) Murphy of Quinby; daughter, Mary (Jay) Hinson of Cheraw; and his grandchildren, Lee Hinson of Clemson and Kayla Hinson of Cheraw.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at Florence Memorial Gardens.
Family received friends from 11:00 am - 11:30 am on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to the McLeod Hospice, P. O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502; Quinby Baptist Church, 950 E. Ashby Road, Florence, SC 29506 or to your favorite charity.
