CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Jackie Gaddy age 84, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, December 6, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM, Monday, December 9, 2013 at Sandy Plains United Methodist Church, Morven, NC. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gaddy was born August 15, 1929, in High Point, NC, a daughter of the late Ellis Stancil and Lessie Vaughn Threadgill. Jackie was raised by her aunt, Anna Chewning, after the death of her mother when she was 18 months old. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Sandy Plains United Methodist Church. Jackie loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing with them, and talking on the phone with her friends. In addition to her parents, Jackie was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gaddy, and son Keith Gaddy.

Survivors include 1 Son: Billy Frank (Jill) Gaddy of Chesterfield, SC; Grandchildren: Caroline, Adam, and Jacob Gaddy; and1 Sister: Frances Smith of Greensboro, NC.

Leonard Donald 'Don' Sellers

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Leonard Donald “Don” Sellers, age 70, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at his home.

A graveside service was held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sellers was born January 14, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Leonard D. and Essie Melton Sellers. He was a retired store clerk with Stephenson’s Hardware, and a former employee of Tom Jones Grocery. Don was an U.S. Army Veteran, having served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a life member of the VFW Post 11251, and a member of Chesterfield Presbyterian Church. Don enjoyed farming, raising mules and other animals, and riding on his mule drawn wagon. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise H. Sellers and by a brother, Mike Sellers.

Survivors include Wife: Grace Sellers of the home; 1 Stepson: Tommy (Jennifer) Demby of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Stepdaughter: Tammy D. (Mike) Griffin of Chesterfield, SC; 5 Grandchildren: Brian, William, and Kevin Griffin, and Maren and Gracyn Demby; 2 Step Grandchildren: Jenna and Holden Lowery; 2 Brothers: Phil (Libby) Sellers of Wilmington NC and Tommy (Mona) Sellers of Chesterfield, SC; 2 Sisters: Glenda S. Lisenby and Vadis S. Turner of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Sister-in-law: Judy C. Sellers of Chesterfield, SC; Also: Aunts, Nieces and Nephews.

Carolyn Patricia Cumber

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Carolyn Patricia Cumber, 74, died Thursday, November 21, 2013. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late Cular James and Marjorie Quick Lee. She was a retired cosmetologist. She was a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Cumber was a loving friend and always was willing to help everyone.

Surviving is her husband Perry Cumber of East Rockingham, NC, a son, Mike (Melissa) Cumber of Garner, NC, and a sister, Linda Richardson of Cheraw, SC.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above and a brother Eugene Lee.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Old Saint David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, South Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service in Old Saint David’s Church.

R. L. Hopkins Jr.

JEFFERSON – Mr. R. L. Hopkins, Jr., age 68, died Saturday, November 16, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday November 19, 2013 at Twin Pines Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation is 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, November 18, 2013 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Mr. Hopkins was born March 23, 1945 in Lancaster, SC the son of the late R. L. and Ruby Carlisle Hopkins. He was a retired employee of Caro-Knit and a member of Twin Pines Free Will Baptist Church. R. L. was a U.S, Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include Wife: Darlene Hinson Hopkins of the home; Son: Billy (Clara Williamson) Hopkins of Jefferson, SC; Daughter: Amanda (Mike) Griffin of Jefferson, SC; 4 Grandchildren: Heather Bryant, Jacob Bryant, Mackenzie Wilkerson, and Emerson Hopkins.

Leila Mae Jordan

PAGELAND – Mrs. Leila Mae Jordan, age 81, died Friday, November 22, 2013.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 25, 2013 in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Jordan was born August 6, 1932 in Ruby, SC a daughter of the late Daniel and Sue Oliver Douglas. She was a retired employee of Challenger Electric Company, and a member of Providence Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Leila Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Jordan; 1 daughter, Betty Ann Jordan Knisley; 3 brothers, Robert Lee Douglas, William Douglas, and Duncan Douglas; and her granddaughter, Elise Michelle Jordan-Calhoun.

Survivors include 1 Son: Kenneth Lee “Ken” Jordan of Pageland, SC; and 1 Sister: Estelle Melton of Ruby, SC.

Daniel Fay Martin

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Daniel Fay Martin, age 81, died Monday, November 18, 2013.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Oakland Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Mr. Martin was born on October 9, 1932, in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Dan A. and Florice L. Martin. Fay was a retired Plant Manager at Kenville in Lilesville, N.C. and was also the past owner of Carolina Nu-Way, Inc. Fay was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the S.C. National Guard and a member of American Legion Post 74, where he was the sergeant-at-arms. Fay was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, and the Chairman of the Monthly Prayer Breakfast. He was also the “Mayor” of the Moore's Drive-In Breakfast Table and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Fay enjoyed fishing, golfing, mowing grass, and weekend farming. In addition to his parents, Fay was also preceded in death by four sisters, Violet Woodard, Helen Bonnett, Vera Martin, and Louise Kelly; and three brothers, Howard Martin, John “Son” Martin, and Ray Martin.

Survivors include His loving wife: Edith Phillips Martin of the home; 2 Sons: Phillip (Carol) Martin of Taylors, SC and Danny Martin of Ruby, SC; He was blessed with three grandchildren: Daniel Gantt Martin (Brooke), Courtney Martin Driver (Andrew), and Kelsey Ann Martin; Two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Zearfoss and Ruby Martin; Also: numerous nieces and nephews.

Sadie Hall Campbell

CHESTERFIELD - Sadie Hall Campbell, age 79, died Friday, November 15, 2013.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November, 18, 2013 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Sunday, November, 17, 2013 at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Campbell was born October 14, 1934, in Cheraw, SC a daughter of the late Felton Hall and Lanny Huggins Polson. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Chesterfield Manufacturing. Sadie enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially with her great grandson, Easton. In addition to her parents, Sadie was also preceded in death by her husband, Jewell W. Campbell and by her brothers, James Hall and Felton Hall, Jr.

Survivors include 2 Daughters: Debbie C. (Rick) Lisenby of Chesterfield, SC and Marietta C. (Greg) Bryant of Cheraw, SC; 2 Granddaughters: Ashley B. (Steven) Sellers and Emalee K. Bryant both ofChesterfield, SC; Great Grandson: Easton Reed Sellers; and Sister: Edell Sanchez of Asheboro, NC.

Patti DeMiere Perry

CHESTERFIELD - Ms. Patti DeMiere Perry, age 44, won her courageous battle with cancer and went to rest in the arms of Jesus, Tuesday, November 12, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 15, 201 3 at Free Worship in Cheraw, SC. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P. M. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Ms. Perry was born July 17, 1969 in Oak Park, Illinois, a daughter of Carol Russell DeMiere and the late Frank Thomas DeMiere. She was a 1987 graduate of Chesterfield High School and a 1994 graduate of Northeastern Technical College, where she received an Associate of Arts and Science degree and her LPN degree. Patti was also a 2000 graduate of Regents College where she received her RN degree. She was a former registered nurse with Evans Correctional Institute and was selected as the 2013 4th quarter employee. Patti was a member of Free Worship in Cheraw, SC. She enjoyed playing golf, riding horses, shopping, and spending time outside and at the beach. Patti especially loved spending time with her son, Landon, when she wasn’t caring for others. Nursing was truly Patti’s passion. In addition to her father, Patti was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Archibald Russell, Frank DeMiere, and Beatrice McCormick Demiere.

Survivors include Son: William Landon Perry of the home, and his father, Bill Perry of Chesterfield, SC; Mother: Carol Russell DeMiere of Chesterfield, SC; Sister: Sharon Ann DeMiere of Ruby, SC; Nephew: Jake Thomas Brown of Ruby, SC; Maternal Grandmother:

Jean Russell of Ruby, SC; and Uncle: James Russell of Ruby, SC.

Elizabeth Smith

CHERAW - Elizabeth Smith, age 90, of Cheraw, SC passed away November 15, 2013. Mrs. Smith was a loving and devoted wife to the late Jule Smith for more than 69 years. She was the daughter of the late Eddie Hudson Davis and Mae Evans Davis of Chesterfield, SC. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great -grandmother, sister, and friend.

Mrs. Smith was the perfect definition of a mother and grandmother - so loving, caring, and supportive. Her family adored her and acknowledges that she was the most amazing mother one could have. Her unconditional love was always fully exemplified through her endless concern and unwavering devotion. Family was always her first love, and she built her life around them, always putting them before herself.

Mrs. Smith was a loving, Christian woman with a kind soul and a compassionate heart. She was an amazing cook and avid gardener, and she dearly loved reading. She was a woman of great independence and determination. Her endurance and zest for life were unparalleled. She was indeed a “steel magnolia”.

She is survived by her son, Jule Garreth Smith of Isle of Palms, SC, her daughters, Phyllis Smith Silva of Lexington, SC and Sherri Smith Thurman and her husband The Rev. Ronald Thurman of Ruby, SC, and her daughter- in- law, Angela McDuffie Smith of Cheraw, SC.

She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Jay G. (Celeste) Smith of Atlanta, GA, Jim Thomas (Sydney) Smith of Sonoma, CA, Kenneth Hudson Smith II of Cheraw, SC, Zachary Harrison Smith of Cheraw, SC, Bonnie Elizabeth (Wesley) Owens of Wagner, SC, Melissa Hope Silva of Lexington, SC, Caroline Lorraine Silva of Ladson, SC, and Cassie Thurman (Leslie) Davis of Chesterfield, SC; 7 great-grandchildren: Georgia Reed Smith, Brynn Elizabeth Smith, James Thurston Smith, Alexis Marie Silva, Brooklyn Madison Alford, Isabelle Marie Owens, Aubrey Paige Owens; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jule Smith, son Kenneth Hudson Smith, and daughter- in- law Jane Duncan Smith.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 17, 2013, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chesterfield, SC. Interment will follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery. The Family will receive family and friends from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 305 W. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

The family wishes to extend their warmest thanks and gratitude to the staff of Chesterfield Convalescent Center.

CHERAW - Joe Streater, 71, died Thursday, November 7, 2013. Born in Lilesville, NC he was the son of the late Thomas Calvin and Annie Mae Bryant Streater and the widower of Linda White Streater. He was a member of North Cheraw Baptist Church and the church choir.

Surviving are his son Jody (Liza) Streater of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Dawn Freeman of Chesterfield, SC, sisters, Josephine S. Jones of Lilesville, NC, Mary Ann Pigg of Wadesboro, NC, Jean Grecho of Lilesville, NC, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, also brothers, Willie L. Winebarger and Calvin Junior Streeter.

The family will receive friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2013 at North Cheraw Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial with Military Honors will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Mary Ruth Rayfield

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Mary Ruth Rayfield, age 83, died Friday, November 8, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Sandy Plains United Methodist Church, Morven, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2013, prior to the service at the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Rayfield was born August 3, 1930 in Morven, NC a daughter of the late James Paul and Annie Mae Adams Griggs. She was a former employee of Sacony and Ruby Hosiery Mill and was a retired employee of Chesterfield Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Rayfield was a lifelong member of Sandy Plains United Methodist Church where she had served on various committees. Mary Ruth enjoyed talking on the phone with her friends, and eating at Carolina Restaurant and Bojangles. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Howard Clifton “Bill” Rayfield.

Survivors include 1 Son: Howard (Diane) Rayfield of Chesterfield, SC;1 Daughter: Joyce (Icky) Merriman of Chesterfield, SC; 4 Grandchildren: Lt. Col. Paul (Mandy) Rayfield of Temecula, CA, serving in the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru, Michelle Rayfield, Christy M. Watkins, and Trey (Juliann) Merriman all of Chesterfield, SC; 4 Great Grandchildren: Gant, Bryce, Hannah, and Easton.
