Juanita I. Adams

ROCK HILL - Juanita I. Adams, 91, formerly of Wallace, SC, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the home of her daughter Beverly (Jesse) Sims. She was born in Darlington County on July 29, 1923 to the late Sam and Carrie Edwards Ingram. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Rev. James M. Adams.

During her husband’s ministry, she served in many areas in the work of her church.

She will be remembered for her words of encouragement, her kind ways, her keen sense of humor, her pearls of wisdom to pass along from a heart full of love and concern for others, and especially her love of the Lord.

She was a loving and devoted mother to her five children, and is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Jesse) Sims of Rock Hill, SC, Janice Hale of Avon Park, FL, Brenda (Clarence) Lott of Bamberg, SC, and one son, Michael (Jeannie) Adams of Columbia, TN. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Brian (Susan) Sims, Kevin (Emily) Sims, Tony (Nancy) Hale, Angie Lott, Tonya (Tracy) Marks, Dwayne (Marli) Adams, Scott (Emily) Adams, and Kristy (Bryan) Sweatt, 22 great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Mary Lynn Adams, a sister, Jewel Millen, a host of nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Jessica Shaw Griggs and her family, as well as all her “phone” buddies who meant an awful lot to her.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Adams, a son-in-law, Don Hale, two sisters, Ada Grace Watford, Merrie Byrd, three brothers, Hollis Ingram, Ems Ingram and Rembert Ingram.

The family received friends 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Friday November 21, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 11:00 AM, Saturday November 22, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. Burial was in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bennettsville, SC.

Kenneth 'Ken Preston Leidig Jr.

PATRICK - Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Preston Leidig, Jr., age 76, died Monday, November 17, 2014.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Leidig was born February 6, 1938, in Huntington, PA, a son of the late Kenneth Preston Leidig and Anna Knott Leidig. He was a retired power company maintenance employee and a U.S. Army Veteran. Ken was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, Ken was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Leidig.

Survivors include Wife: Judy Sellers Leidig of the home; 2 Sons: Philip Leidig of Patrick, SC and Kenneth “Chip” Leidig of Gloucester, VA; 2 Daughters: Cindy Smith and Beth, both of Gloucester, VA; 6 Grandchildren: Trisha, Kamryn, Ashley, Kyle, Jamie and Jason; 1 Brother: Don Leidig of Altoona, PA; and 3 Sisters: Betsy Monihan and Jenny Sellers of Alexandria, PA and Mary Jane Branseetter of Altoona, PA.

Timothy O. Bennett Sr.

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Timothy O. Bennett, Sr., 68, died on Friday, October 31, 2014. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. from the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Gillespie Cemetery, Cheraw, SC. Timothy was born on January 4, 1946 to Andrew Bennett, Sr. and Elsie McBride Bennett in Chesterfield, SC. He graduated from Gary High School in 1964 and retired from J.A. Jones, Inc. Timothy was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1999 at New Zion Baptist Church, Chesterfield, SC. Survivors: his wife, Sally Pegues Bennett, Concord, NC; his three daughters, Janice Bennett Lindsey, Charlotte, NC, Patricia A. Johnson (Charles), Fort Worth, TX and Tammy L. Dahl (Michael), Tucson, AZ; his son, Timothy Bennett, Jr. Concord, NC; three sisters, Bonnie Pullen (Charles), Baltimore, MD, Doris Redfearn, Chesterfield, SC and Sara B. Hough, Marion, SC; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Sherrie Lynn Johnson Cassidy

CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Sherrie Lynn Johnson Cassidy, age 55, beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandma and friend to all, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family singing and praising God after an almost 15 year battle with breast cancer.

A celebration of life service was held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, November 10, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cassidy was born January 23, 1959 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of Helen Johnson and the late John G. Johnson. Sherrie was an inspiration to all who knew her. She dearly loved her family and especially loved celebrating Christmas each year with her grandbabies. Sherrie was a faithful member of Forest Pine Church. Through Facebook, Sherrie encouraged, prayed for, and loved all she knew. She was truly the Biblical description of a virtuous woman and she will be remembered for her daily devotions as well as her favorite Bible verse which she posted religiously, “This is the day the LORD has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Kenny and Sherrie recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal service. She loved her husband with all of her heart. She enjoyed camping, praising and worshipping her LORD and Savior and spending afternoons around the campfire with some of her closest friends, Ann and Gene Stromberg. She will be sorely missed by all, especially by her family who loved and cared for her during the final days of her life including her mother, Helen Johnson; her sisters, Becky “Bird” Phipps and Denise Gilbert; her children and husband along with her son-in-law, Bruce and future son-in-law, Olin.

Survivors include Husband of 36 years: Kenny Cassidy of the home; 2 Daughters: Amy Lynn (Bruce) Vasquez of Cheraw, and Carrie (Olin Pate) Cassidy of Chesterfield, SC; 4 Grandchildren: Charity Autumn Walters, Draven Chance Vasquez, Caroline Elizabeth Walters, and Rylan Leigh Vasquez; Mother: Helen Johnson of Hartsville, SC; 1 Brother: Johnny Johnson of Hartsville, SC; 2 Sisters: Rebecca “Bird” Johnson (Rick) Phipps of Florence, SC and Denise Johnson (Adam) Gilbert of Hartsville, SC; Nieces and Nephews: Megan Johnson, Ashley Phipps, Jonathan (Tori) Phipps, Noah Gilbert, and Jacob Gilbert; and Father-in-law & Mother-in-law: Roger and Lynda Cassidy.

Frank D. Curlee

RUBY - Mr. Frank D. Curlee, age 74, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM, Monday, November 17, 2014 at Hopewell Baptist Church, Chesterfield, SC. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Mr. Curlee was born September 14, 1940, in Anson County, NC, a son of the late Crowell and Dollie Williams Curlee. He was a retired screen printer with GM Acme Nameplate in Monroe, NC, and was a U. S. Army Veteran. Mr. Curlee was a former member of the Ruby-Mt. Croghan Vol. Fire Dept. and a member of the Chesterfield American Legion Post 74. Frank was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he had served as Deacon, choir member and usher. He enjoyed making wood crafts, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Frank was also preceded in death by his son David E. Curlee.

Survivors include Wife of almost 49 years: Mary Melton Curlee of the home; Daughter: Anita C. (Gene) Oliver of Chesterfield, SC; 2 Grandchildren: Matthew and Sarah Oliver; brother: William “Bill” Curlee of Wingate, NC; Sister: Fannie C. (Charles) Brock of Wingate, NC; and Nephew: Todd Brock.

Oral Clay 'O.C. Howard

CHERAW - Oral Clay “O.C.” Howard, 85, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Born in Elva, KY he was the son of the late Clay George and Corlie Theodosa Wallace Howard. He was the widower of Annie Lou Howard. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cheraw, SC. Mr. Howard was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a charter member of the Cheraw Rotary Club. He was the owner of Howard’s Electric, Cheraw Heating and Quality Builders. Mr. Howard enjoyed deep sea fishing and spending time at the beach with family and friends. He was affectionately known as “Poppie” to his granddaughter and great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Chesterfield Convalescent Center, Hospice of Chesterfield County, caretakers and the Comfort Keepers that were so diligent in helping Mr. Howard.

Surviving is his daughter, Audrey (Jesse) Gaskins of Cheraw, SC, granddaughter, Corlie (Jeriot) Burr, great grandchildren, Anna Grace Burr, Landon Burr and Lyla Kate Burr all of Darlington, SC.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Kiser Funeral Home. A rosary was held at 7:00 PM following the visitation.

A funeral mass was held 1:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC.

Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Michelle (Whussy) Robinson

CHERAW - Michelle (Whussy) Robinson was born to Jerry Robinson and Annie P. Robinson on June 2, 1969 in Cheraw, SC. She attended Cheraw High where she was on Girls Varsity Basketball Team. After graduating she attended North Carolina Central in Durham, NC. She left Durham and made her home in Charlotte, NC. She loved football and basketball. She loved the Pittsburg Steelers.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, grandmother Mazzie Parson, Delores Kemper and grandfather Ed Parson.

She loved her god-father Wallace Funderburk, Jr.

W. G. 'Skip' Skipper

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. W. G. “Skip” Skipper, age 83, died Saturday, November 8, 2014.
A Private Family Service will be at a later date.
Mr. Skipper was born June 17, 1931 in Mullins, SC, and was a son of the late Arthur and Cardella McDaniels Skipper. He was a retired farmer and a former member of the SC National Guard. Skip was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, gardening, and mowing grass.

Survivors include Wife: Polly S. Skipper of the home; Son: Barry (Melba) Skipper of Holden Beach, NC; 2 Grandchildren: William (Lisa) Skipper of Cheraw, SC and Bryan (Jessica) Skipper of Holden Beach, SC; Great Grandchild: Allyson Skipper; 2 Step Children: Billy (Mary) Schrum of Blowing Rock, NC and Donna Camit of Columbia, SC; 5 Step Grandchildren and 3 Step Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters: Winnie Belle Lucas of Florence, SC and Elean Reagan of Louisiana.

Thomas L. 'Tommy' Benton

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Thomas L. “Tommy” Benton, age 54, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Chesterfield Cemetery.

Visitation was from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Benton was born March 9, 1960 in Florence, SC a son of Paul L. Benton and the late Velma Elizabeth Smith Benton. He was a 1979 graduate of Chesterfield High School and also was a graduate of Chesterfield Marlboro Tec. Tommy also attended Wingate University and the S.C. Police Academy, and was a former police officer and former owner and operator of Super Lube. He was a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Tommy enjoyed being a lay speaker and was also a former Dixie Youth baseball coach and umpire. He was former executive director of Friends of Scouting and also served as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 652. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Glenda Lee Benton; and by his brother, Steven Paul Benton.

Survivors include Father: Paul L. Benton of Chesterfield, SC; Sister: Elizabeth Benton Norton of Chesterfield, SC; Niece and Nephew: Cassi E. Norton and Julian Paul Norton; Also: aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Chesterfield Baptist Church, 207 E. Main street, Chesterfield, SC 29709; or to Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
