CHERAW - Ernest Boan, 79, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of the late Curtis L and Geneva Boan. He was the widower of Rejean A. Boan. He was a member of North Cheraw Baptist Church. He was retired from (James Fabrics) Highland Industries with 47 years of service. He enjoyed sports and fishing.

Survivors are: Chris (Gail) Boan of Chesterfield, SC, Karen Boan, Elaine Boan both of Cheraw, SC, brothers, Nathan Boan of Bennettsville, SC, Douglas Boan of Hamlet, NC, sisters, Bonnie Leviner, Linda Teal both of Wallace, SC, Ginnie McMillan of Englewood, OH, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, his biological mother who died when he was 2, Virginia Perkins Boan, brothers, Curtis “Buck” Boan, Jr., David Boan, Bradford Boan and a sister, Lorene Hayes.

The family received friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A graveside service, with military honors, was held 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Pearl Perdue Brown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mrs. Pearl Perdue Brown, age 98, formerly of Patrick, SC, died Sunday, March 8, 2015.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

Visitation was from 1:00 – 2:00, Saturday, March 14, 2015 prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Brown was born July 12, 1916 in Hartsville, SC a daughter of the late Erwin and Addie Tolson Perdue. She was a homemaker and member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers, sewing and cooking. In addition to her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Hoskin Brown; 2 sisters, Letha Denson and Earline Vita; and by 10 brothers, James, Harold, Carroll, Wade, Ray, Eugene, Ellis, Charles, Jerry, and Guy Perdue.

Survivors include Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

CHERAW - Janie Williams Cagle, 76, died Thursday, March 5, 2015. Born in Laurinburg, NC she was a daughter of the late Danny and Ollie Mae Williams Strickland. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. She lovingly took care of children and the elderly. Her favorite thing to do was to play with her grandbabies.

Survivors are her daughters, Mary (Carlton) Roscoe, Jacqueline Cagle (Mitchell Dunn) all of Cheraw, SC, a brother, Jimmy (Teresa) Williams of Monroe, NC, sisters, Glennie Taylor(Rick Dickson) of Orlando, FL, Pat (Teddy) McRae of Mt. Gilead, NC, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

The family received friends 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC.

A funeral service was held 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC.

Bobby Driggers Sr.

CHERAW - Bobby Driggers, Sr., 69, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Born in Cheraw he was a son of the late Barney and Rosa Mae Cole Driggers. He was retired from Cheraw Lumber. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing, football, and working.

Survivors are his wife Martha C. Driggers of Cheraw, SC, Bobby Ray Driggers, Jr of Cheraw, SC, David Driggers of Bourbonnais, IL, a daughter, Susan Driggers of Wallace, SC and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and brothers, Barney “Sly” Driggers and Robert Driggers.

Ronald Larry Drummond

CHERAW - Mr. Ronald Larry Drummond, age 76, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015.

A graveside service with military honors was held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 13, 2015, at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens

Mr. Drummond was born March 8, 1939, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Robert and Iona Norris Drummond. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War with 20 years of service to our country. Mr. Drummond was the recipient of the Bronze Star, and the Silver Service Star Medal. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard with American Security. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gray Drummond; and sister, Barbara Jean Rochon.

Survivors include Wife of 47 years: Barbara Drummond of the home; 3 Sons: Ronald (Katharine) Drummond, II of Utah, Donald (Dawn) Drummond of Blythewood, SC, and David (Ashley) Drummond of Cheraw, SC; Grandchildren: Thomas, Ezra, Hannah, Audrey, Dakota, Delaney, and Damian Drummond; Brother-in-law: John L. Rochon of Amelia, OH.

Dave J. Griffith Sr.

CHERAW - Mr. Dave J. Griffith, Sr. age 84, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at his home.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Zoar United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Visitation was from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Mr. Griffith was born September 21, 1930 in Sumter, SC. The MAN, the Legend in our eyes, Son, Brother, Husband, Dad and Pa, friend and neighbor, is now at peace, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late William Boyd Griffith Sr. and Nellie Johnson Griffith Windham. Dave was born and raised on a farm in Sumter, SC where he worked the family farm and helped raise his younger siblings, after the death of his father at age 40. His only run in with the law was with the Feds. when him, his brothers, and some friends made and ran moonshine to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. To stay out of jail, he was offered a deal. He could work for Kelly Trucking or go to jail. Dave quickly became a truck driver, which became his career for many years. In 1952 he met, fell in love, and married a very young lady who remained by his side as wife and mother to their five children for over 62 years. They moved to Cheraw SC in 1960 when transferred by Branch Motor Lines. They have remained here ever since raising their family. Dave was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 15 in Cheraw, SC for over 40 years, and was also a Shriner. He loved the outdoors and fishing with his sons on Santee – Cooper, and bird watching. In addition to his parents, Dave was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wilson and three brothers; Robert, Ira, and William B. Griffith.

Survivors include Wife of 62 years: Susie Pack Griffith of the home; 3 Sons: Dave J. (Janice) Griffith Jr. of Cheraw, SC, Mark B. (Rhonda) Griffith of Wallace, SC and Jeffery C. (Elizabeth Schwartz) Griffith of Martin, TN; 2 Daughters: Pamela G. (James) Daily of Middlebury, VT and Wanda G. (Jim) Inman of Rockingham, NC; 6 Grandchildren: John Jr. and Josh Lisenby, Hillary and Tatum Daily of Vermont, Quentin Griffith of Cheraw, and Carrie Griffith (Tim) Allison of Florence, SC; 2 Great Grandchildren: Zachary Lisenby and Annajo Smith of Vermont.

The family would like to thank Hospice caregivers, nurses, doctors, and chaplain for all their support and wonderful care; Zoar United Methodist Church for their support and wonderful meals; as well as a special thank you for Diane (Pack) Johnson and Sellarhea Jordan for their many visits, love and food.

Lawson Perry Sellers

CHERAW - Mr. Lawson Perry Sellers, age 75, died Thursday, March 12, 2015.

A service of celebration will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 2:30 – 3:00 PM, Sunday, prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Sellers was born July 14, 1939 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Lonnie Carson and Carrie Jane Hancock Sellers. He was a retired truck driver with ABF Trucking and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Lawson was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member and the Sgt. of Arms of the American Legion Post 74, and a member of the BWZ Men’s Club. In addition to his parents, Lawson was also preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, David, and Mitchell Sellers.

Survivors include Wife of 48 years: Neatus Roberts Sellers of the home; 2 Daughters: April Sellers (Shawn) Wright of Chesterfield, SC and Ginger Sellers (Ben) Daniel of Florence, SC

4 Grandchildren: Emma Grace Daniel, Luke Carson Daniel, Lawson William Wright, and Perry Christian Wright; 2 Brothers: Billy Sellers and Glen Sellers of Cheraw, SC; 3 Sisters: Mamie Newton of Cheraw, SC, Margie Ruth Hart of Missouri, and Mary Catherine Meredith of Jamestown, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church “Cemetery Fund” 1016 Tec. Rd. Cheraw, SC 29520.

Charles V. Tucker

CHERAW - Charles V. Tucker, 76, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Born in Laurel Hill, NC he was a son of the late Johnson Tucker, Sr. and Rosa Lee Walters Tucker. He served in the National Guard. He was retired as an electrician. He enjoyed singing when he woke up in the mornings. He enjoyed fishing, praying, bird watching, reading his Bible and watching world’s funniest video’s.

Surviving is his wife, Patricia Ann Fore Tucker of Cheraw, SC, daughters Sherry (James) Rhea of Cheraw, SC, Melody Adams of Florence, SC, a brother, Johnson (Billie Ann) Tucker, Jr. of Laurinburg, NC, a sister, Virginia Hardee of Wagram, NC, grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Adams and Tara Rhea (Joe) Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and a sister Helen Barfield.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 1:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial.

Robert 'Rob' Leo Webster

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. Robert “Rob” Leo Webster, age 93, died Thursday, March 12, 2015.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM, Monday, March 16, 2015 at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 – 3:30 PM Monday, March 16, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Webster was born June 24, 1921 in Hope Mills, NC a son of the late Timothy and Elizabeth Koonce Webster. He was a retired commercial carpenter and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Rob was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of Chesterfield American Legion Post 74. After retirement, Rob enjoyed raising cows and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Iona Cupp Webster and three brothers, Tim, Lacy, and Walter Webster.

Survivors include 1 Son: Rodney Webster of Chesterfield, SC; Caregiver: Melinda Brigman of Chesterfield, SC; Also several Nieces and Nephews.

Josephine Hopkins Gates-Coates

CHERAW - Josephine Hopkins Gates-Coates, 91, died Sunday, March 1, 2015. Born in Cheraw, SC she was a daughter of the late Charlie Z. and Rilla Jane Thompson Hopkins. She was the widow of Douglas T. Coates. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC and an adult choir member. She loved listening to religious music and opera. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Survivors are her sons, Marion (Jonna) H. Gates Jr. of Cayce, SC, Michael (Wanda) Coates of Bennettsville, SC, Glynn (Lynne) Coates of Virginia Beach, VA, a daughter, Jane (Earl) G. Pelfrey of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Janie K. Taylor of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Hugh Gates, Bryan Gates, Rebecca Jones, Mike Coates, Brian Coates, Chris Coates, Thomas Coates, Collyn Coates, Sheri Rogers and Karen Helms, also many great and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also her first husband Marion H. Gates, Sr., a son, Franklin “Frankie” Coates, brothers, Charlie Z. Hopkins, Jr., James I. Hopkins, Bryant Hopkins, sisters, Irene Hopkins West and Lillie Maude Lowrimore.

The family received friends 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

WALLACE - Earle Thomas Hatcher, 44, died Monday, March 02, 2015. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of the late Simmie John Hatcher, Jr. and Kathryn Driggers Hatcher. He love to go fishing and working with his hands.

Survivors are: a brother, Robert (Renne) Hatcher, nieces, Brittany Hatcher, Caitlyn Hatcher and a great nephew, Braxton Wadell all of Cheraw, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and a brother, John Michael Hatcher.
