Funeral Services for Christine Furtick Boykin will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010 in Faith, Hope and Charity Deliverance Temple with burial in Serenity Gardens.
Christine Elaine Furtick Boykin was born July 10, 1952 in Orangeburg, SC. She was the beloved daughter of the late Herny and Hannah Furtick. She departed into eternal rest on Sunday, May 30, 2010, in Providence Northeast Hospital.
Christine attended the Richland County public school system. She received salvation under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Mary L. Jacobs at Faith, Hope & Charity Deliverance Temple. She was preceded in death by her father, Herny Furtick; her two brothers, Raymond and Jospeh Furtick.
Those left to cherish fond memories of Christine are her husband, Henry LeRoy Boykin of Columbia, SC; one daughter, Shirley Ann Furtick of Columbia, SC; two sons, Harvey (Ayona) Furtick and Corey Prophet, both of Columbia, SC; her mother, Hannah Furtick of Columbia, SC; four brothers, Robert (Linda) Frank, Wilson and Pernell Furtick, all of Columbia, SC; five sisters, Essie (Bernard) Brown, Lorine (Willie) Nelson, Catherine (Carlos) Meja, Jessie (Ernest) Sterns, and Yvonne (Leverne) Vereen, all of Columbia, SC; one god-daughter, Lisa Scott; a special sister-in-law, Duretta Carson, 21 grandchildren, three brother-in-laws, four sister-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends, all of whom will deeply miss her.
James Clarence Thompson
Funeral Services for James Clarence "J.C." Thompson will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 in Bibleway Church of Atlas Road with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
James Clarence "J.C." Thompson was born December 19, 1949 in Richland County. He was the beloved son of the late James Evans and Ella Mae Thompson-Hall. "J.C." departed this life to be with the Lord on Satruday, May 29, 2010 at the Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
James was educated in the public schools of Richland County adn graduted from Booker T. Washington High School.
Joe Louis Smith
Funeral Services for Joe Louis Smith will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 in The Greater St. Luke Baptist Church, 5200 Farrow Road with burial in Promised Land Cemetery.
Joe Louis Smith formerly known as “Louis”, was born on July 24, 1937 to the late Robert and Esther Young Smith. He departed this life on Friday, May 21, 2010.
A well known member of the Harlem Heights Community, Louis was a free spirit who took pleasure in hunting, fishing, and farming. He worked as a skilled construction worker and enjoyed his trade as a dry wall installer.
He is proceeded in death by his son Keith Anthony Smith.
He is survived by his ex-wife Zelma Smith; four daughters, Patricia (George) Madison, Nancy (Morris) Smith-Britton and Teresa Thomas of Miami, FL, Hilda (Robert) Craft of Columbia, SC and one son, Ronald (Renee) Smith of Blythewood, SC; his sister, Francis Watson of Brooklyn, NY; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew, and other loving relatives, friends and a very dear friend Roberta Sterns all of whom loved him dearly.
Willie Lee Martin
Funeral Services for Willie Lee Martin will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010 in the St. Peter Baptist Church, 7910 Broad River Road, Irmo with burial in McCollom Cemetery.
Mr. Willie Lee Martin was born March 16, 1929, in Columbia, SC. He was the son of the late Johnny and Bertha Martin. He was called home quietly from this life on Thursday May 6, 2010 at Uni-Health Nursing Home Center.
Mr. Martin attended public schools in Richland County. He was employed with Southern Metal of Charlotte, NC and retired 40 years of dedicated service.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Ruth Q. Reed and to this union tow children was born; Willie B and Rosa Lee. After his divorce to his prior wife, he entered into holy matrimony to Mrs. Lorean Mobley Martin and to this this union, eight children was born proceeding him in death; Donald Raye Martin, Patricia A. Pickens, Ella (Larry) Bucket, Sherrie (Henry) Jones, Phyllis (Calvin) Brown, Treneace (Lorenzo) Hearn, Felicia Martin, and John Eddie Brooks. Mr. Martin had 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
After moving back to Columbia, SC, he would attend various churches in the surrounding area. Although he did not have a church home, he expressed his belief and faith in God. His favorite saying every day was “Thank you God for letting me see this day that I’ve never seen before”.
He was known in Golden acres and Willow Run communities as “Pop” to some and “Granddaddy” to others. He was the type of person who never met a stranger. He was loved by many and will be missed but never forgotten
Mary Frances Matlock Chester
Memorial Services for Mary Frances Matlock Chester will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in the Mill Creek United Methodist Church, 1041 Old Garners Ferry Road.
Ms. Chester died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 25, 2010. She was born on August 25, 1940 to Hallie and Marian Matlock of Arkadelphia, Arkansas
She is survived by her son, Scott A. Chester of Fort Lee, NJ; daughter, Frances M. Chester of Providence, RI; loving partner, Leslie Aiken of Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Gay and Lesbian Center, 1108 Woodrow Street or to MIRCI, 1433 Gregg Street.
Malchus "Terry" Ross
Memorial Services for Malchus "Terry" Ross will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010 in the Word of God Church, 7355 Garners Ferry Road. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Malchus "Terry" Ross was born on October 14, 1973 to the proud parents of David and Diann (Ross) Kelly. "Terry" was the oldest of two children. He was a special and wonderful child that would be a blessing wherever he traveled in his life. His parents loved him so very much and truly believed in him wholeheartedly.
"Terry" went to school at Nursery Road Elementary, Dutch Fork Middle School and graduated from Spring Valley High School. He attended Midland Technical College and obtained an Associates Degree in Business. Education was very important to "Terry" because he knew it would advance him tremendously in his promising future.
He leaves to cherish his memories his sister, Amanda Kelly; grandmother, Naomi James.
Lester Dunbar
Funeral Services for Lester Dunbar will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 in the Bibleway Church of Atlas Road with burial in McCollom Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010 in McCollom-Myers Mortuary.
Lester Dunbar was born January 5, 1954 in Aiken County. He was the son of Pearline Dunbar and the late Henry Dunbar. On Tuesday, March 9, 2010 Lester peacefully entered into eternal rest. He was a member of Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lester graduated from C. A. Johnson High School, Class of 1972. He was a mechanic and enjoyed helping others. He was a caring father that loved his kids and grandchildren. Lester loved to give advice to others as much as he could.
Lester was preceded in death by three sisters, Francis D. Williams, Bertha D. Huyghue and Jeanette Dunbar; two brothers, Willie Lee and Earl Joseph Dunbar.
Those left to cherish his memories are his mother, Pearline F. Dunbar; seven daughters, Natasha, Pamela, Twanesia, Brenda, Brittany, Lucretia (Roderick), Anna and Chasity Dunbar; sons, Troy, Lester Jr. (Lanieka), Christopher (Misty) and Ezra Dunbar; sisters, Susan Scarborough and Maggie Dunbar; brothers, Elijah, Jacob (Willie Ann), Jimmie and Doug (Debra); twelve grandchildren.
Jaylen Tyshaun Williams
Memorial Services for Jaylen Tyshaun Williams will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010 in the St. Paul A. M. E. Church, 835 Kennerly Road, Irmo.
Jaylen Tyshaun Williams was born on December 24, 2009 in Charleston, South Carolina.
Surviving are his father, Damian Williams; mother, Shakeyma Baxter; paternal grandparents, Jacqueline Williams and Clevland Williams, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Kimberly Bryant and David Baxter; aunts, Heather, Tiffini, Kimora, Jordon and Alonia; uncles, Desmond, Devin, Davion, Jarvis, Kameron, Aron and Justin; and a host of relatives and friends.
Doreen Macades Johnson Clarke
Memorial Services for Doreen Macades Johnson Clarke will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 in Haskell Heights First Baptist Church.
Doreen Macades Clarke, the daughter of Epheram and Maggie Bethel Johnson was born in Nassau, Bahamas on December 14, 1922. She departed this life February 14, 2010. In 1941, she met and married her late husband, Cedric Clarke and they moved to Mosstown, Exuma (Bahamas). To this union five children were born and they adopted one niece. Her second son, Burkett, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish fond memories 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends in the Bahamas. Two sons reside in Columbia, SC, Micheal, and Teran (Mary Priester) Clarke. During her stay in Columbia, she joined the Haskell Heights First Baptist Church on June 17, 2007. She will be missed by all for her bright smile and her love of cooking.
Dorothy Mae Mack Smith
Funeral Services for Dorothy Mae Mack Smith will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Febuary 13, 2010 in the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church with burial in St. Matthews First Baptist Church Cemetery, Winnsboro, SC.
Ms. Dorothy Mack, affectionately known as "Dot", was born on September 8, 1947 in Winnsboro, South Carolina to the late John B. Mack and Ada Mack Brown.
Ms. Smith was a 1965 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School and she also attended Morris College. Ms. Smith was employed by the Georgia National Bank and Richland County School District One. She was a member of Community C.M.E. Church. Ms. Smith was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories; her loving children, Janon Kirk Smith and Amber D'Ada Smith of Columbia; two granddaughters, Breyonna Nicole Outing and Arie McKenlei Smith of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Marian Mack Wright of Tucker, GA and the late Johnnie Mae (Sterling) Suber; two great aunts, Mrs. Marian Ashford and Gladys Plair of Winnsboro, SC; brother in-law, Sterling Suber; four nieces; three nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
