NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - John Wills Griggs, Jr., age 67, of North Myrtle Beach passed away August 15, 2015. John was born May 16, 1948 a son of the late John Wills Sr. and Verna Matheson Griggs. Mr. Griggs is survived by his wife, Karen Stone Griggs, his brother Carson Matheson Griggs (Tony), and two sons, John III and Benjamin; daughter-in-law, former Sylvia Potter; and two grandsons, Potter and McCravy (Mac).
John recently retired from State Farm Insurance in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Griggs garnered many State Farm awards during his career, which began in 1987, including President's Club, Chairman’s Council, and Golden Triangle. He was a member of the Little River Chamber of Commerce &served as a past Board Chairman. John was a member of the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce & served on the Chamber Foundation Board. He served also on the Design Review Board & the Insurance Board at Tidewater Plantation. John was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in North Myrtle Beach. He was a retired LTC of the U. S. Army Reserve.
Visitation was held at the Tidewater Plantation Amenity Center, North Myrtle Beach, Tuesday, Aug 18 from 6-9pm.
There was also a visitation at Faith Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Cheraw SC, Wednesday, Aug 19 at 1pm.
Funeral services followed at 2 pm.
Burial with military honors followed at Old St. David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.
Betty Huneycutt Nicholson
MT. CROGHAN - Mrs. Betty Huneycutt Nicholson, age 80, died Sunday, August 16, 2015.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Center Grove Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nicholson was born August 18, 1934 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Craig and Dessie Brock Huneycutt. She was a former employee of Chesterfield Webbing. Betty was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family and was also a faithful member of Center Grove Baptist Church. She loved humming birds, growing pretty flowers, and cross stitching. Betty was also a former powder puff race car driver. In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by a son, Frank E. “Eddie” Nicholson, Jr. and a daughter, Peggy N. Jones.
Survivors include Husband of 64 years: Frank E. Nicholson of the home; 2 Sons: Michael H. “Mike” Nicholson of Mt. Croghan, SC and Marty A. (Amy) Nicholson of Kershaw, SC; 1 Daughter: Betty N. (Randy) Knight of Mt. Croghan, SC; Son-in-law: Timothy Jones of Ruby, SC
Daughter of the heart: Dorothy Patterson of Mt. Croghan, SC; 4 Grandchildren: Dan Tanner Nicholson, Sandy Nicholson and fiancé Carey Reid, Madison P. Jones, and Brooke Smith; 5 Great Grandchildren: Zack Nicholson, Selena Funderburke, Beyah Reid, Justin Nicholson and Andrew Nicholson; Step Granddaughter of the heart: Felicia Patterson and children; 1 Sister: Sue H. CHERAW - Annabelle M. Rainwater, 92, died Thursday, August 20, 2015. Born in Mt. Croghan, SC she was a daughter of the late Edwin William and Pauline Rushing Marze and the widow of Burnie Benjamin Rainwater. She was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Gaylon M. (Barbara) Rainwater of Conyers, GA, daughters, Sylvia Anne R. (Bob) LeBel of Cheraw, SC, Mary Kathryn (Tommy) Hunt of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Faye Marze Huggins of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Miriam Nicole Edick, Michael Lowell Furr, Amber Shae Atkins, Sherry Louise Turner, Dawn Marie Parris, Robert Arthur Label, Jr., Steven Tracey LaBel, Ryan Rainwater, Shannon Marie Tolleson, Steven R.Olvey, Ashely Taylor Hunt Gulledge, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, sons, Michael Edwin Rainwater and Roger Lowell Rainwater, and a grandchild, Sherry Lynn Olvey.

James Daniel Short
CHERAW - James Daniel Short, 64, died, Saturday, August 15, 2015. Born in Morven, NC he was a son of the late Daniel Wilson and Lilly Mae Deese Short and the widower of Edna Mae Whitaker Short. He enjoyed country music. He was retired from Carolina Canners.
Surviving is his son, Jeffrey Short of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Vickie (Jody) Braswell of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Evelyn Short and Carol Beasley both of Hartsville, SC, Kay Lewis and Martha Rivers both of Cheraw, SC, Brenda Kelly of Society Hill, SC, Margaret Roach of Liberty, SC and Shirley Davis of Easley SC, a granddaughter, Miracle Leeann Braswell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, also, a brother, Edward Allen Short.
A memorial service was held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Kiser Funeral Home Chapel.
Irene Sellers Smith
CHESTERFIELD - Mrs. Irene Sellers Smith, age 85, passed away peaceably Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Friendship United Methodist. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2015 prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
Mrs. Smith was born May 3, 1930, in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of the late Melvin and Josie Freeman Sellers. She was a homemaker and mother. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of INA USA, and a retired employee of Chesterfield High School. Irene was a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She enjoyed life, and loved her family and her church. Irene loved spending time with her family and talking on the phone, checking on her friends. In addition to her parents, Irene was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bobby V. Smith, a grandson, Bobby Ray Burr, a son-in-law, James Webster, her brothers, Otis and W. J. Sellers, and by a sister, Doris Maples.
Survivors include 2 Daughters: Janet S. Webster of Cheraw, SC, and Vernitta S. (Buddy) Burr of Chesterfield, SC; 3 Grandchildren: Jackie (Tom) Hipp, Justin Burr, and Robbie Webster; 3 Great Grandchildren: Jade, Jennifer, and Jackson Hoskins; 1 Sister: Pat Dawkins of Rock Hill, SC.

Alice Lightbody ‘Granny’ Driggers
WALLACE - Alice Lightbody “Granny” Driggers, 81, died October 9, 2015. Born in Diamond Lake, Ill., she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Tortegys Lightbody. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Wallace. She had served her church as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and member of the United Methodist Women. She had served as secretary of the local chapter of the Woodmen of the World and had been a volunteer at McLeod Health Cheraw (Chesterfield General Hospital). She had a “green thumb” and was known for her ability to revive plants and flowers. Mrs. Driggers was always exquisitely dressed for all occasions, especially holidays and special family events, which she loved to celebrate. She enjoyed coloring with Crayola crayons, working puzzles, and sending cards to people for birthdays, weddings, holidays and special events.
Surviving are her Husband of the home Francis Driggers, sons: Rev. Donnie (Dianne) Driggers of Cheraw and Doug (Jerry) Driggers of Wallace; daughters: Christine Terry, Stacey (Bruce) Puette, and Laura (Ralph) Driggers, all of Wallace; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; sisters: Dorothy Miller of Mundelein, Ill., Frances Inman of Zion, Ill., Margaret Bowie of Ingleside, Ill., Nancy (Robert) Remika of Buena Park, Calif., Charlene (Orin) Hapke of Madison, Wis., Paulette (Charles) Peters of Libertyville, Ill., and Mabel Sutton of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above; a brother: Robert Lightbody; sisters: Mary Helen Moist and Louise Lightbody; and a great-grandchild: Madelyn Robinson.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Wallace. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Richard Scott Jacobs Sr.
CHERAW - Mr. Richard Scott Jacobs, Sr. age 76, passed away very peacefully, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at his home, after a courageous battle with ALS for almost eight years.
A funeral service was held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, October 16, 2015 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation was from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.
Mr. Jacobs was born March 15, 1939, in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Essie Davis Jacobs and Spofford Anson Jacobs. He was a graduate of Cheraw High School and was in the trucking industry for 25 years. Scott was then owner and operator of Scott’s Mini Mart and Restaurant until his retirement in 2000. Mr. Jacobs was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the chancel choir until his illness. Scott was a U. S. Army Veteran and a Mason. He was a true people person, and never met a stranger. Scott loved his family and friends very much and always cherished the time spent with them. He also enjoyed conversation with family and friends, and was never at a loss for words. Scott was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing golf and watching sports on TV. He was an avid Gamecock and Jeff Gordon fan. Scott’s courage and faith in God, during his illness was an inspiration to all his family and friends. He never asked why me. In addition to his parents, Scott was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Jacobs Campbell.
Survivors include Wife of 56 years: Janice Hopkins Jacobs of the home; Son: Richard Scott (Shannon) Jacobs, Jr. of Cheraw, SC; Daughters: Dana J. (Brad) Evans of Pageland, SC and Ann J. (Steve) Smith of Cheraw, SC; 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren; Brothers: Rev. Ralph (Novella) Jacobs, Sr. of Chesterfield, SC and Anson (Rebekah) Jacobs of Cheraw, SC;
Also a number of Nieces and Nephews.
The Jacobs family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff of Hospice of Chesterfield County and all the caregivers for their care, love, and support, to the MDA Clinic of Charlotte, NC, to all of those who donated to Jacobs Ladder of SC, and to our many Friends for being there for Scott and us.

WALLACE - Linda F. Leach, 57, died Thursday, October 15, 2015. Born in New Orleans, LA, she was a daughter of Norma Delores Foret Thompson and the late John David Caldwell. She enjoyed sewing, fishing and doing crafts. She loved being with children.
Surviving is her spouse, John W. Quick of Wallace, SC, a son, Evan Charles Leach of Dumas, MS, daughters, Athena Leach of FL, Taylor Quick of Cheraw, SC, Brittany Barber of Wallace, SC, a brother, Joe Thompson of New Albany, MS, grandchildren, Nathan Quick and Dallas Barber.

Mary Ann Teal
PAGELAND - Mrs. Mary Ann Teal, 81, of Pageland, South Carolina passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Autumn Care in Marshville, North Carolina.
Mrs. Mary Ann Teal was born in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Daisy Anderson Redfearn and Harry Baxter Redfearn. She was later united in marriage to Jerry E. Teal, who precedes her in death. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Pageland. She was a proud Graduate of Converse College. She is also preceded in death by her Brother, Edward Redfearn.
Mrs. Teal is survived by her Son, Harry Teal (Sherry) of Gastonia, NC, Daughter, Lou Anne Clark (Mark) of Concord, NC, Grandchildren, Chip Clark (Courtney) of Concord, NC, Stuart Teal (Denise) of Charlotte, NC, Blair Teal of Charlotte, NC, Mollie Clark of Concord, NC and Great Grandson, Mac Clark of Concord, NC.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Pageland.
The family received friends on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 in the First Baptist Church of Pageland Fellowship Hall.

Lillie Brock Gainey
COLUMBIA - Mrs. Lillie Brock Gainey age, 97, passed to her eternal home, Monday, October 5, 2015.
Mrs. Gainey was born December 16, 1917, in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of the late Toby and Martha Brock. Lillie was a graduate of Zoar High School in Chesterfield, SC, class of 1935. She was a hard working, devout Christian and was a member of Dentsville Baptist Church since 1961. Lillie sang in the choir, held many Bible Studies and coordinated and provided meals for Vacation Bible School for many years. In addition to her parents, Lille was also preceded in death by her husband, Earby Gainey, son, James Gainey, daughter, Elizabeth Melton, grandsons, Maurice Alexzander, Jr. and Clint Smith, sister, Eva B.Boan, and brothers, Chester and Carlos Brock.
Survivors include her daughters, Vivian (Dan) Shupe of Columbia, SC, Ramona (Wade) Roland of Lexington, SC, and Phyllis (Bill) Langford of Perry, SC. Brother, Charlie Brock of Lexington, SC., sisters, Ruby B. Gulledge of Charlotte, NC. and Nettie Free of Florida. Also numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services, were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the St. John Free Will Baptist Church, Patrick, SC. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. The family received family and friends on Saturday, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

WALLACE - Mary Taylor Haire, 86, died, Friday, October 09, 2015. Born in Wilmington, NC she was a daughter of the late Luther Thomas and Annie Mae Stubbs Taylor and the widow of Alton Haire, Sr. She was a member of White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Wallace, SC.
She is survived by her sons, Alton (Brenda) Haire. Jr. of Laurinburg, NC, Albert Haire of Wallace, SC, Richard Haire of Wallace, SC, Randy (Patricia) Johnson of Ruby, SC, a daughter Sylvia McLendon of Wallace, SC, sisters, Virginia Taylor Ray of Laurinburg, NC, Louise Taylor of Hamlet, NC, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, daughters, Brenda Floyd, Elizabeth Johnson, brothers, John Taylor, Shelton Taylor, Alton Ray Taylor, Johnny Taylor, Boggan Taylor, sisters, Lillian Taylor, Christine Taylor, Betty T. English, Molly Taylor and Shirley Taylor.
