Roger Seals

CHERAW – Mr. Roger Seals, 90, died Sunday, February 21, 2016, at McLeod Cheraw, surrounded by his family.

A Funeral Service of Full Military Honors was held Wednesday, February 24, at 3:00 p.m. at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. The family received friends following the service. Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.

Mr. Seals was a US Military veteran with 25 years of service. He served in the Marine Corps in World War II in the Pacific (1943), during the invasion of Iwo Jima (1945), on Honolulu; U. S. Army and SC Army National Guard-Cheraw Unit. Roger was proud to have served in the military and counted it an honor to do so for the freedom of his Country and family.

Roger was born in Marlboro County, SC on October 29, 1925, a son of the late James H. Seals, Sr., and Alma Seals Hardman. He was predeceased by: brother Billy Seals, USMC – killed in action during the Korean War; sister: Eleanor S. Rhea; brother: James H. Seals, Jr.; daughter: Kimberlee White Polson.

He is survived by his spouse of 25 years, Marie P. (White) Seals, daughters: Rhonda Seals (Mark) Griffith, Chesterfield, SC, Hope White (Andy) English, Cheraw, SC. grandchildren (5)- Carrie Griffith (Tim) Allyson, Florence, SC, Madeline Polson (Joshua) McMillan, Fort Bragg, NC, Charles Baylen English, student at Newberry College, Newberry, SC, Avril E. (Nick) Norris, Myrtle Beach, SC, Cameron English, Hamlet, NC. (2) great granddaughters- Gracie English, Cowen English. Also, a sister, Thelma Clinkscales, Cheraw, SC and a brother, Henry (Nell) Seals of Goose Creek, SC.

Roger served for 10 plus years as a volunteer for the Cheraw Rescue Squad; he was a volunteer at the Cheraw State Park Golf area for over 10 years and Papa Roger had the pleasure of introducing his grandchildren to the game of golf. You would always find Roger attending most of Cheraw High football games regardless of the weather, Papa Roger would be found in the fans Braves Booster section, and saluting the US Flag during the “Star Spangled Banner” played by the High School Band. Roger always made time for family.

Roger retired from Burlington Industries (Highland) Finishing Department in Cheraw in the mid 80’s.

He enjoyed refinishing and repairing furniture; keeping his lawn looking good as well as his azalea and camellia bushes; he enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn H. Seals, 1989.

Roger was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw. He grew up attending First Baptist Church, Cheraw for 70 plus years.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Edward Ashburn

WALLACE – Charles “Chuck” Edward Ashburn, 80, died Sunday, February 21, 2016. Born in Sparta, TN he was a son of the late Harley Lee and Katie Morgan Ashburn. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of the Cheraw Moose Lodge. Mr. Ashburn enjoyed politics, golfing, camping, working in his shop, cooking, and playing pool.

Surviving is his wife Faye Haire Ashburn of Wallace, SC, a son, Richard “T.O.” Ashburn of Wallace, SC, a daughter, Sheila Ashburn Graham of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren, Brandy Ashburn, Suzanne (Adam) Harmeling, Justin Ashburn, Kristi (Brad) Boob, great grandchildren, McKenna Ashburn, Mason Spradley, Chloie Spradley, Faith Ashburn, Isabella Ashburn, Bailee Boob and Kallie Boob.

The family received friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, February 22, 2016 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 3:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Whites Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Wallace, SC. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Vena Johnson Catoe

MCBEE – Funeral services for Vena Rebecca Johnson Catoe, 99, were held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Middendorf Baptist Church.
The Rev. Beau Boyle, the Rev. Don Rhyne, and the Rev. William Catoe officiated at the burial in Middendorf Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, February 26, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Catoe died Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Born on November 18, 1916 in Chesterfield County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Minnie A. Cassidy Johnson. A member of Middendorf Baptist Church, she was married to the late Gus S. Catoe and the late Jasper B. Dixon.
Surviving are her daughters, Janet Pickrell of Uniontown, Ohio, Shirley Sweatt of McBee, S.C., Rebecca (Harold) Snipes of Middendorf, S.C., Jean Jordan of Cayce, SC, Shirley Sullivan of Hartsville, S..C, Judy Branch of Fleming Island, Fla; sons, Richard Catoe, Randy (Dianne) Catoe, Amos (Amanda) Catoe, John (Lynn Gardner) Catoe, all of Middendorf, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Delores Catoe of Middendorf, S.C.; brother, Jack Johnson of Michigan; 47 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her children, Stanley Catoe, Hilda Ann "Sister" Catoe, Frank Catoe, Deborah Gail Catoe, Ruth Gainey, Freddie Soule, Ralph Catoe, Helen Monnie and Bill Catoe; sisters, Ethelene Yeatts, Ola Griggs, Leo Johnson and Dorothy Griggs; brothers, Arthur Johnson, Thurmond Johnson and Beler Johnson.

Edith S. Creasey

CHESTERFIELD - Ms. Edith S. Creasey age, 83, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at her home of natural causes.

Ms. Creasey was cremated and her cremains buried in the grave of her Mother at Hillcrest Cemetery, White House, Tennessee.

Born October 28, 1932 in Sumner County, Tennessee, Ms. Creasey was the daughter of the late Marguritte Edith Keene Summers and Granville U. Summers. She was an honor graduate of White House High School, Fall’s Business College in Nashville, and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from the Southern College of Nevada in Las Vegas. Ms. Creasey worked in the insurance industry for 28 years in Nashville and Phoenix before moving to Las Vegas. She was an Office Manager, oversaw all Maintenance Contracts for the County and was the Surplus Property Coordinator for eight years before her retirement in 1996 with over 16 years of service.

Surviving are her sister, Gale Baker, of Stuart, Florida, one niece, one nephew, one great-niece, four great-nephews, and many friends located throughout the U.S. Three loving caregivers: Jeannie R. McCormick, Cindy Gibson, Dawna C. Rushing, all of Chesterfield, SC.

Ms. Creasey was a lifelong Baptist.

Blanche Hillian Fleming

Parrish, FL- Blanche Hillian Fleming, 95, formerly of Chesterfield, SC funeral services were held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2PM from the Word of Life Fellowship Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Chesterfield Community Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. She was the widow of George Fleming, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Born on August 1, 1920 in Chesterfield County, SC, Blanche was the daughter of the late Ethan J. Lindsey and Melissa Turnage Hillian. She is survived by her children: Margie Barron, Plainsfield, NJ, James T. Flemming (Laura), Pageland, SC, Minister Sue Fleming-Garris, Wimauma, FL, Gwendolyn Fleming of the home and Linda Washington (Bernard), Bradenton, FL; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and twenty-one great great grandchildren. Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield was in charge. .

Patricia Baskins Green

CHERAW - Mrs. Patricia Baskins Green, age 63, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Green was born January 27, 1953 in Bennettsville, SC a daughter of the late James Bruce and Dorothy Grooms Baskins. She was a former employee of Stanley Black & Decker. Pat enjoyed fishing, working in her flowers, and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing, and was an avid animal lover. In addition to her parents, Pat was also preceded in death by a sister, Bertie Lee Lewis, and three brothers, Luther, Clifton, and J. B. Baskins.

Survivors include Husband: William Nelson “Jimmy” Green Jr. of the home; 4 Sons: Phillip and Joseph Faile of Cheraw, SC, Michael Baskins of Cheraw, SC, and Caleb Green of Columbia, SC; 2 Daughters: Michelle B. Myers of Cheraw, SC and Michaela Green of Cheraw, SC; 12 Grandchildren; 3 Brothers: Rev. Grady Baskins of Hartsville, SC, Harvey Baskins of Cheraw, SC, and Horace Baskins of Patrick, SC; 2 Sisters: Betty Joe Gatti and Doris Allen, both of Chesterfield, SC; Also Nieces and Nephews.

William R. Bobby Lively

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. William R. “Bobby” Lively, age 71, entered into rest on Thursday, February 25, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cheraw, SC.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2016 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Lively was born June 9, 1944 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late William Parker Lively and Nellie Stafford Lively Martin. He was a former employee of JP Stevens and was a retired welder and pipefitter foreman with Fluor Daniel Construction Company with 30 years of service. Bobby was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart and Medal of Honor recipient. He was a faithful member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher. Bobby was an avid marksman and enjoyed going to the gun range with his special friend, Leverne Stafford. He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds.

Survivors include Wife of 51 years: Linda Hill Lively of the home; 1 Daughter: Trina Lively (Brett) Stafford of Conway, SC; Aunt: Cubie Jean (Gene) Hill of Florence, SC; Nephew: Fred Hill of Chesterfield, SC; Numerous Cousins and his Special Cat: “Speedy.”

Joseph ‘Joe’ Preston Morton

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Joseph “Joe” Preston Morton, age 69, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his home.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 pm Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Morton was born January 14, 1947 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Cranford Ezekiel and Minnie Lee Williams Morton. He was a former employee of Chesterfield Webbing and a member of Chesterfield Church of God. Mr. Morton enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and trees, coon hunting, and watching NASCAR. One of his favorite pastimes was talking to his brother Carrol on the phone several times a day. In addition to his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by 1 sister, Helen Jean Eddins.

Survivors include Wife of 47 years: Peggy C. Morton of the home; 1 Son: Joseph P. “Little Joe” Morton, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Chesterfield, SC; 2 Grandsons: Joseph Tyler Morton and Collin Elvis Morton both of Chesterfield, SC; 3 Sisters: Rachel Rivers, Ruth Sellers both of Ruby, SC, and Kathy Smith of Chesterfield, SC; 6 Brothers: Carrol (Margaret) Morton of Ruby, SC, Donnie Morton of Chesterfield, SC, Ricky (Gail) Morton of Ruby, SC, Lester Phillip (Ann) Morton, Josh Morton both of Lancaster, SC, and Kyle (Whitney) Morton of Chesterfield, SC

Pauline Elizabeth Lindsey Rhodes

SNELLVILLE, GA- Pauline Elizabeth Lindsey Rhodes, 63, formerly of Chesterfield, SC died on Sunday, February 21, 2016. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11am from the Fisher Hill Community Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Chesterfield Community Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. She was born in Chesterfield, SC on April 20, 1952 to the late James Lindsey and Eula Ratliff Lindsey. She graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, NJ and was employed by Bell South as a phone operator. On December 22, 1975 she enlisted in the US Army as a military police officer and received an honorable discharged after serving three years. Survivors: a daughter, Marion “Monique” Rhodes; future son-in-law, Leronza “June” Williams, Snellville, GA; a brother, Lawrence “OR” Lindsey, Linden, NJ; a sister, Mary Jean Covington, Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Dadronique McCall and Lunden Williams, both of Snellville, GA. Flemming Funerals-Chesterfield was in charge.

Ayla Rei White

CHERAW - Little Miss Ayla Rei White, 12 days old, received her Angel Wings on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, and flew into the arms of Jesus.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 26, 2016 in the White Family Cemetery.

Visitation was from 12:30 – 1:30 Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Miss White was born Thursday, February 11, 2016, in Hartsville, SC, the daughter of Katrina Alexandria Yates and James Harold White III. Although Ayla’s time here was short, she touched many lives and left her mark on all who were blessed to meet her.

Survivors include Parents: Katrina Yates and Trey White of the home; Grandparents: Carl and Tammy Yates and James H. and Angelia “Necci” White, Jr. all of Cheraw, SC; Great Grandparents: Lillian Faye Quick of Cheraw, SC; Carl L. Yates Sr. of Thomasville, NC; Doris P. Deese of Patrick, SC; and Jo Ann (Bobby) Roscoe of Cheraw, SC; Aunts: Winter White, Kristin Yates, and Monica Yates of Cheraw, SC; Uncles: Daniel Coombes and Zack Rivers of Cheraw. Marvin F. Davis

HARTSVILLE - Memorial services for Marvin F. Davis, 58, who passed away Monday, February 15th, 2016, were held Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Souls Harbor Pentecostal Holiness Church with Revs. Wayne Windham and Grady Baskins officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Davis was born in Cheraw, a son of Annie Mae Reese and the late, Marvin Davis. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing.
Surviving are: son, Matthew Davis and wife, Kerri of Mt. Croghan; parents, Annie Mae Reese and step-father, James Reese of Hartsville; and a sister, Dr. Terri Davis of Atlanta, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Souls Harbor Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2000 W. Bobo Newsome Hwy., Hartsville, SC 29550.

CHESTERFIELD – Eugene Ellis, 73, died on Sunday, February 14, 2016. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2pm from the Flemming Funeral Chapel, Chesterfield, SC. Burial followed in the Chesterfield Community Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. He was born on September 25, 1941 in Kershaw, SC to the late Willie and Viola Allsbrooks Ellis. Survivors: his siblings, Vienethea Malloy, New London, CT, Willie Ellis (Arlene), Cheraw, SC, Roy Lee Ellis, Wadesboro, NC, Runette Wilson (John), Chesterfield, SC, Louise Chapman, Chicago, IL, Jasper Ellis (Tina), Cheraw, SC and Woodrow Ellis (Sandra), Cheraw, SC. Sellers (Patricia), Chesterfield, SC; five grandchildren, Erica Stroman (Dexter), Charlotte, NC, Lakendra Toney, Hartsville, SC, Andre' Woodson, Florence, SC, Jalisa Woodson of Thailand, and Kyla Zimmerman, Bennettsville, SC; a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson.
