PATRICK - Marion Junior Brown, 69, died Tuesday, January 05, 2016. Born in Patrick, SC, he was a son of the late William Manuel and Eliza Ingram Brown. He was a retired Welding Instructor at Northeastern Technical College and Timmonsville High School.

Surviving are his daughter, Hope Martin (EJ) of Patrick, SC, sons, Cory Brown of Cheraw, and Douglas Brown (Charity) of Jefferson, SC, brothers, Wilson (PJ) Brown of Clayton, NC and Lester Bobo Hodge (Renda) of Camden, SC, sisters, Nancy Pierce of Wallace, SC and Patricia Ray (Johnny) of Cassatt, SC, two grandchildren, Kaili Wallace and Berry Wallace, four step-grandchildren Beckham, Oscar, Delilah, and Brody Scott, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents listed above, brothers, Otis Ingram, William Brown, and sisters, Ruby Boone, Helen Parker, Agnes Brown and Ellen Thomas.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:30 PM, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Patrick Cemetery in Patrick, SC.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Patrick Cemetery in Patrick, SC.

Christine Clyburn

PAGELAND - Christine Clyburn, 83, died on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 9, 2015 at 11am from the Pageland Community Center, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Pageland, SC. She was born on April 23, 1932 to the late Julius and Anna Thompson Blakeney in Chesterfield County, SC. Survivors: a son, Ricky Clyburn of the home; three daughters, Kay Francis Mungo of Darlington, SC, Patricia Miller (Howard) and Kathy Louallen (Lynel), both of Jefferson, SC; two grandchildren reared in the home, Dwight Clyburn, Pageland, SC and Shartina Richardson (Demetrius), Charlotte, NC; nineteen grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Amy Leigh Curtis

CHESTERFIELD - Miss Amy Leigh Curtis, age 32, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Miss Curtis was born April 8, 1983 in Monroe, NC, a daughter of Michael Kenneth and Cynthia Hancock Curtis. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, class of 2001 and received her BA degree in Criminology from Coker College. Amy was a former substitute teacher, pharmacy tech, and case worker with DSS. She was also a former employee of Chesterfield County, having worked in the assessor’s office and the solicitor’s office. Amy was truly a people person who never met a stranger and was a true friend to all. Her love for family and friends always flowed freely and her smile could light up the darkest cave. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Willie Ray and Leona A. Hancock and Julian P. Curtis.

Survivors include Parents: Mike and Cindy Hancock Curtis of the home; Grandmother: Shelby Jean C. Curtis of Chesterfield, SC; Also: Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and her fur baby, “Cracker.”

The family requests memorial donations be made to Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, 318 E. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709 to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Doris Evelyn ‘Popsy’ Brown Hatcher

WALLACE - Doris Evelyn “Popsy” Brown Hatcher, 91, died Monday, January 04, 2016. Born in Laurel MD she was a daughter of the late Edward James and Maude Emma Fairall Brown. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Ladies Circle of Oak Grove UMC.

Surviving is her son, Robert (Barbara) Smith of Frederick, MD, a daughter, Louis Greene of Jessup, MD, grandchildren, Michael Miller, Denise Shanken, Meredith Smith, and James Smith, six great grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews

Visitation was Tuesday January 5, 2016, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. A Funeral Service was held 3:00 PM Wednesday January 6, 2016 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Wallace, SC. Interment was at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wallace, SC.

Benjamin ‘Ben’ F. Hill

CHESTERFIELD - Benjamin “Ben” F. Hill of Chesterfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at his home. He was 80 years old.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Ben’s life at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Chesterfield Church of God. Officiating will be pastor Tim Haulbrook.

Ben was born May 10, 1935 in Randolph County, NC to the late Valon Carr Hill and the late Dellie Mae Russell Hill. He spent his working years as a lumberjack and working in the sawmill. He loved to run hounds in the hunt for deer and he enjoyed being in the outdoors. In later years he enjoyed spending his days watching Clint Eastwood movies. Ben’s favorites were the westerns but any Clint Eastwood film was fine with him.

In addition to his parents Ben was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Vivian Hurley Hill; a brother, Walter Hill, a sister, Ruthie Yow, and two infant sisters, Hilda and Lucille Hill.

To cherish his memory Ben leaves behind a son, Billy Ray Hill and wife Darlene of New Hope, NC; three daughters, Shirley Hill Nance of New Hope, NC, Ruby Hill Sullivan and husband John of Fayetteville, NC, and Betty Hill of Aynor, SC; three brothers, Hoyle Hill, Barney Hill, and Johnny Hill, all of New Hope, NC; two sisters, Rachel Brinkley of Asheboro, NC and Wiladene Powell of New Hope, NC; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his long-time companion and caretaker, Barbara Spivey Pearce and a host of nephews, nieces neighbors and friends who will miss him dearly.

Floyd Ervin Hodge

RUBY – Mr. Floyd Ervin Hodge, age 71, died Saturday January 9, 2016.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 11, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pine View Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Hodge was born May 11, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Jason and Lela Brock Hodge. He was a retired employee with the SCDOT and a member of Pine View Baptist Church. Floyd enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, walking, and working on old cars. In addition to his parents, Floyd was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Leona Hodge, Geneva Hodge, and Rita Mills.

Survivors include Wife: Dorothy Ann Roscoe Hodge of the home; 2 Sons: Jason (Rose) Hodge of Patrick, SC and David Hodge of Ruby, SC; 2 Daughters: Karen Roscoe of Ruby, SC and Darlene (John) Adams of Chesterfield, SC; 12 Grandchildren: Jennifer Roscoe, Kayla McCathern, Nathaniel Thompson, Daniel Roscoe, Megan, Dara Gracen, and Joshua Adams, Briana, Jasa, Brook, and J.J. Hodge, and Destiny Hodge. Also 1 Great grandson: Jackson Carnes, 3 Brothers: Junior Hodge, Jerry Hodge, and Billy Hodge all of Ruby, SC; 4 Sisters: Mary Campbell of Jefferson, SC, Daisy Jordan, of Patrick, SC, Bonnie Wallace, of Ruby, SC, and Cathy Jordan, of Aberdeen, NC; Also Nieces and Nephews.

Molly Frances Melton

WALLACE - Molly Frances Melton, 73, died Saturday, January, 9, 2016. Born in Shoals, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Jenny Edwards Hauser. Mrs. Melton was the widow of Redmond Melton, Sr. She enjoyed spending time with her family, talking to friends, and watching TV.

Surviving are her daughters Wanda Melton of Wallace, SC, and Patricia McRae of Clayton, NC, grandchildren, Alen, Molley, Alexis, and Jennifer, great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jazmine, and Junior, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents listed above, and a son Redmond Melton, Jr.

Services for Mrs. Melton are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Gladys Turner Moss

CHERAW - Ms. Gladys Turner Moss, age 77, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Interment followed at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC.

Visitation was from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Moss was born March 29, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC, a daughter of the late Gary Thomas Turner and Mary Ethel Burr Turner. She was a former ladies’ buyer with

Frank’s Dept. Store, and worked for many years in the insurance industry, and as a legal secretary. Gladys also worked for many years with Hope Children’s Home in Tampa FL. She also worked with and was a former board member of New Hope Home in Society Hill, SC. In 1988, Gladys was one of the founding members of Calvary Baptist Church, and was a member and Pianist at Faith Community Baptist Church. Gladys enjoyed reading her bible and being a Missionary for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Bobby C. Moss, Jr. and infant Boy Moss, a brother James G. Turner, a sister Shirley Turner Goodwin, and by a brother-in-law, Francis Knight.

Survivors include 1 Son: Jeffery Moss of the home, 2 Daughters: Kimberly (Chris) Parsons of Summerville, SC, and Brittini Rayne Moss of the home; 2 Grandchildren: Turner Parsons and Maxwell Parsons; 1 Brother: Barnice G. (Betty) Turner of Cheraw, SC; 4 Sisters: Willie B. Knight, Mildred (Mike) Michael, and Mary (Tom) Johnson all of Cheraw, SC., and Carolyn (Rev, Wayne) Chapman of Society Hill, SC; Brother-in-law: Tommy Goodwin of Cheraw, SC

CHERAW - Maggie Leak Ellerbe Sellers, 69, of died on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 2PM from the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the Gillespie Cemetery, Cheraw, SC. She was the daughter of the late Clara Mae Leak and Ed Mack born in Cheraw, SC on February 14, 1946. Survivors: her husband, Willie Sellers; nine daughters, Teressa Leak (Johnny), Cheraw, SC, Tracy Norwood (Rico), Monroe, NC, Theresa Michelle Cooks (Michael), Tonya Ellerbe, Theda Henry, all of Cheraw, SC, LaVounda Floyd, Tashia Rubin (Chad), both of Florence, SC, Tammy Ellerbe and Tiffany Ellerbe, both of Cheraw, SC; seven sons, John D. MONROE - Eva Mae Threatt, 88, died on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January, 9, 2016 at 2:30PM from the Flint Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, Pageland, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born on March 13, 1927 in Chesterfield County, S.C. to the late Early Nicholson and Mattie Crawford Nicholson.

Survivors: companion, Curtis McManus, Monroe, NC; four daughters, Sally Deese, Lancaster, SC, Pearlie Mae Blakeney, Tradesville, SC, Mae Bell Parker (James), Marshville, NC and Phyllis Obasi, Monroe, NC; four sons, Billy James Threatt (Blondell), Pageland, SC, Jackie Threatt (Kathy), Monroe, NC, Leroy Threatt, Monroe, NC and Frankie Threatt, Marshville, NC; children she raised, Thomas Nivens (Rosa), Pageland, SC, Curtis Nicholson (Judy), Monroe, NC, Wilbert Nicholson (Shirley), Wingate, NC, Willie Nivens (Rita), Priscilla Nivens, Tiffany Threatt, Feiarah Miller and Gary Miller, all of Monroe, NC; half brother, L.C. Lillie Rebecca Bennett

CHESTERFIELD - Lillie Rebecca Bennett, 75 died on Monday, December 28, 2015. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 1PM from the Drucilla A.M.E. Zion Church, Chesterfield, SC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She was born on October 24, 1940 in Wadesboro, NC and the daughter of the late James Daniel and Beatrice Wallace. Lillie was educated in the Anson County, North Carolina public school system. Survivors: husband, William Bennett, Jr.; two sons, William Bennett, III, Cheraw, SC and Timothy Bennett, Chesterfield, SC; a daughter, Barbara Bennett, Cheraw, SC; two grandchildren, Amber Bennett and Nivion Lewis, both of Cheraw, SC; three sisters, Francis McCoy, Mary Burch, both of Morven, NC and Pecolia Evans (Charlie), Charlotte, NC. Wiley Glen Curry

CHERAW – Mr. Wiley Glen Curry, age 72, died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, January 4, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Curry was born August 6, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Henry Luther and Mollie White Curry. He was a retired Construction Superintendent with Environmental Air Systems, Inc. of Greensboro, NC. Mr. Curry was a member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church, and the S.C. Army National Guard, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a true family man, who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known for his favorite pastime and hobby, gardening. In addition to his parents, Wiley was also preceded in death by his 8 brothers, H.L., J.C., Ed, Clarence, Walter, Charlie, Rudolph, and Robert Curry; and by 2 sisters, Clarice Leslie, and Molly Lynn McKain.

Survivors include Wife of 50 years: Betty Grant Curry of the home; 3 Daughters: Adeana Curry (Scott) Hunter of Cheraw, SC, Dawn Curry (John McDonald) Taylor of Rockingham, NC, and Glenda Curry (Keith) Thomas of Cheraw, SC; 6 Grandchildren: Meagan Taylor Hunter, Chandler Jarrett Hunter, Winston Tyler Bullion, Makenzie Nicole Taylor, Kadin Grant Thomas, and Baylen Keith Thomas; and 2 Sisters: Sallie (Sonny) Berrie of Sumter, SC and Bonnie (Jimmy) Thurman of Las Vegas, NV.

Charles Stuart Maxwell

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Charles Stuart Maxwell, age 66, died Friday, January 1, 2016.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 3:00 – 4:30 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Maxwell Family Home, 122 Green Street, Chesterfield, SC.
Mr. Maxwell was born February 19, 1949 in Wadesboro, NC a son of the late Charles Orval and Martha Smith Maxwell. He was a graduate of Florence Darlington TEC, and Francis Marion University. Mr. Maxwell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting during the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of A.O. Smith and was of the Baptist faith. Stuart was a devoted caregiver to his mother, sister, and a loving father to Allison.

Survivors include 1 Brother: Ronnie (Cynthia) Maxwell of Cheraw, SC; 3 Sisters: April Melton of Chesterfield, SC, Martha Ann Tucker of Lancaster, SC, and Allison Maxwell of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Niece: Melanie (Chris) Tarlton; and 1 Nephew: Lee (Caren) Maxwell.

Beverly Jean Thomas Suhy

CHERAW – Mrs. Suhy, age 82, went to be with our Savior on December 30, 2015. She was born on July 13, 1933 in Cheraw, SC to the late Maybelle Epps and Robert Vance Thomas, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Robert R. Suhy, Sr.; her sister, Mable Epps Thomas; and four brothers, Robert Vance Thomas, Jr., Haley Fiske Thomas, Joseph Lee Thomas, and Jack Gibbons Thomas.

Mrs. Suhy was a graduate of Cheraw High School and attended Winthrop College until her marriage to Robert Suhy from Philadelphia, PA., they lived most of their lives in Cheraw, SC where they raised their four children.

Mrs. Suhy was a life long member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where early on she taught Sunday school, and faithfully played the piano for assembly for Sunday school, and sang in the church choir most of her life. She held various offices in the church in her earlier years.

She loved life, her husband, her family, her friends and the many cat pets. She said they were her extended family. Most of all she loved God, who blessed her with all of these things and so much more.

Survivors include her son, Robert R. Suhy, Jr. and wife Nancy of Johnson City, TN; daughters, Laurie Morrell and husband, Kyle of Cheraw, SC, Jan Laney and husband, Duncan of Cheraw, SC, and Kimberly Jean Suhy of Lilesville, NC; five grandchildren, Jason

(Amanda) Suhy, Kaleb (Langlee) Morrell, Jacob Morrell, Caroline Laney, and Clair Laney; and lots of special nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Suhy will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family cordially requests memorial contribution be made in Mrs. Suhy’s memory to the Chesterfield County Animal Services, 467 Goodale Rd., Cheraw, SC 29520
